Reborn Of The Hexborn Luna
Aria’s POV
I knew I shouldn’t be here.
The atmosphere felt different. It left me wondering if an Hexborn—half witch, half wolf—was privileged to be here.
I was draped in a hand made dressed I had put together myself and my hair tied into a bun.
It was the mating ball of Alpha Adrian, the dream man of all women in our pack. I’ve never dreamt of getting to see him in person not to talk of ending up as his Luna.
Today felt—different and uneasy. I felt out of place, but I didn’t let that bother me. I walked round the huge hall watching other wolves draped in their all round expensive outfit.
I refused to be intimidated.
The hall was filled with laughter and smiles that seems to touch their ears. I couldn’t join them in their merriment.
The hall fell into a deep silence.
I was taken aback by the sudden silence, my eyes falling on a majestic figure who walked up the dias.
Alpha Adrian.
His presence alone from afar was strong enough to arouse all hormones I had never thought I had.
I watched him in all his grace as he climbed the dias, his caramel eye glowing under the evening light.
It was beautiful.
Suddenly, I felt an abrupt headache forcing me to close my eyes as I placed my hand on my forehead. I could feel the hair at the back of neck straightening and goosebump running over me but I ignored them all.
I couldn’t let it distract me.
The hall was filled with applause.
“It’s beautiful to have you all here honoring my invitation. This is the day we have all been waiting for, the day were we would get to see who the moon goddess has chosen for us as Luna to lead this pack side by side with me.” Alpha Adrian said, his seductive smile glued on his face like a mask.
Another round of applause erupted.
Alpha Adrian picked up the glass of wine before him. “I believe it’s among our culture to give a toast to everyone who honored this invitation. I want to….” Alpha Adrian paused, he lost control of the glass of wine he held which fell on the floor shattering into unmatchable pieces.
I could feel it again. That eerie feeling of dizziness, goosebumps and my hair straightening.
Amidst the crowd, Alpha Adrian and I eyes locked and just like on queue, I heard a whisper behind me.
“Mate! Mate!”
My eyes widen as I threw my hands to my mouth. Alpha Adrian is my mate?
I could see the neutral expression of alpha Adrian turn into a hateful glare.
“Who allowed her in?” Alpha Adrian asked, growling.
The room was filled with silence as everyone was looking around trying to figure out who the alpha was talking to.
I stood there, shivering.
Alpha Adrian couldn’t have it anymore, he came down from the dias and walked through the crowd as he approached me.
For every step he took, I could feel my soul leaving my body. His presence was so commanding.
He materialized before me, I could perceive his strong cologne but his eyes still bore that hateful and disgusting glare.
“Who allowed her into this mating ball?” Alpha Adrian asked again, yelling.
There was a momentarily silence.
“Guards! Guards!” Beta Roan stepped in. “Take this Hexborn away and lock her up. How dare she attend the mating ball? She has jinxed the whole event and this is treason!”
Guards trooped in.
“Ensure she’s locked in the dungeon, no food or water till my anger subsides. This case would be handled by the council of elders.” Alpha Adrian said. He stormed out of the hall.
I could hear it all, the gossips and murmurs that held my name.
I was dragged away and thrown into the dungeon by the guards. I didn’t cry, fight or argue, I just gave in.
Locked up in the dungeon, the council of elders sat in their chamber alongside Beta Roan and alpha Adrian.
“How dare she intrude the sacred mating ball? We all know she is of mixed blood. Who allowed her into the mating ball?” Beta Roan questioned.
“Her actions are treason worthy. She had just jinxed our alpha and he would have to wait another five years to conduct another mating ball to find his Luna!” Elder Orion said.
“We shouldn’t have accepted her, we shouldn’t have agreed to keep her when her father was exiled and beheaded.” Elder Osborne said.
“Her actions are treason worthy and I believe that she should be punished according to our culture! The same fate that befell her father who was a traitor should also befall her” Elder Thorne added.
“I suggest we feed her wolfsbane and send her on exile, beheading her just like we did to her father would put an end to her suffering so easily. She must suffer for her treacherous actions.” Beta Roan said, an evil smile curved on his lips.
Perhaps, was he the perpetrator of all this?
“I would have grant her the same fate like her father but that would be an escape from the torture she was to go through. She should be fed with wolfsbane and sent on exile never to return!” Alpha Adrian said, anger seething through his vein.
He stood up and walked out of the chamber.
Beta Roan wore a devious smirk. “Guards! Guards! Go and get the intruder. She must be executed this hour!”
Everything was happening so fast.
While lying in the dungeon I could hear the footsteps of the guards walking towards where I was locked.
What is it this time?
I sat at the extreme end holding my legs up as I shivered against the stone cold walls of the dungeon with rats keeping me company.
The door of the dungeon broke open as the guards walked in dragging me out.
I let out a tortured scream as the guard yanked me by my hair. I was dragged out of the dungeon.
“Where are you taking me to?” I questioned, screaming on top my voice.
My question was met with silence as if falling into deaf ears.
I was dragged outside to an open field where I was thrown on the floor.
Beta Roan walked towards me watching me as I laid helplessly, weak and fragile on the floor.
“Bring the wolfsbane mixture.” Beta Roan ordered.
Wolfsbane mixture? That sounds familiar. It was here it dawned on me that I was been exiled.
I have heard a lot of story about the wolfsbane mixture and the aftermath.
I broke down in tears. “Please don’t do this to me!”
My tears watered infertile ground as they yielded no results from beta Roan. His resolve instead became much more hardened.
Two more guards walked in with the mixture. I was held down by the other guards as they forced the mixture down my throat.
Beta Roan watched me struggle before he walked away, leaving me and the guards in the open field alone.
After successfully feeding me with the wolfsbane mixture i was dragged out of the open field, being led out of the pack’s territory.
“Don’t let her wander of in exile. Behead her.”
I heard those words. I couldn’t tell whose mouth they came from but I heard it loud and clear.
“Please. I am begging, don’t do this to me.” I said pleading, drowning in my tears.
My pleading didnt bulge the guards one bit as they dragged me till I was at the pack’s boundary.
“It’s time to take out the orders.” One of the guards whispered as he unsheathed his sword.
My heart sank down to my stomach.
“Poor thing!” The other guard said, not out of pity, but out of mockery.
At that moment, something came over and I kicked the leg of one of the guards, breaking it. The guard screamed into the evening air as he fell in pain.
I ran. But they chased after me.
