Introduction
It is on the night of their first full moon that the young wolves find out their rank within the pack, and 18 years old Aislyn Conroy has two shocking revelations. One, she is an Omega wolf and ranks low in the pack; and two, her boyfriend, Young Alpha Elliott has picked someone else for a mate. That someone is none other than Aislyn's twin sister, Ashlyn. Distraught, she flees the pack, but is abducted by a rival pack when she tries to take her life in their own pack territory. When she is brought back by her captors' Alpha, her ex and sister offer her up as a payment plan for their kind deed. Now, years later, Elliott wants her back because her sister is unable to procreate, but she is fated to another. Would she settle for the man who broke her all those years ago, and who she never stopped loving, or would she mate with the man who makes her feel refreshed and who unlocked the parts of her she didn't know existed? Would she choose revenge or a second chance at love?

Chapter 1

AISLYN'S P.O.V

I can't believe I am running late. Again. Arriving later than the scheduled time has always been something I struggled with, and usually I wouldn't really care about it; but not today.

"Sorry!" I yelled to the person who I just pushed aside as I race down the hallway.

I cannot afford to be late for this. I cannot afford to be even one second late for this. I look down at my wrist, the watch tells me that I have a mere fifteen minutes before the ceremony officially starts, and at this stage it's already impertinent that I'd miss the roll call.

What if I...? No. No what ifs. Not today.

I finally make it out to the lobby of the huge building, sprinting in my ball gown and high heels like my life is less important than the ceremony about to start.

I knock into a server, hearing, more than seeing, the tray in his hands topple over to the floor in loud clangs and shattering.

"Watch where you're going!" Someone calls out in an annoyed tone.

I don't look back, or even slow down. "Sorry! Sorry!" I call over my shoulder and hurry the last steps until I reach the glass doors.

"My lady," the chauffeur starts to speak but I cut him off.

"Start the car. Now."

He doesn't need to be told twice before he jumps into the car and kicks into drive. I'm in the backseat of the car in seconds, and the car is spilling out of the driveway in a heated rev of engine.

I say a silent prayer in my head. "Dear moon goddess, please don't let me miss this. I'd do better, I promise."

I don't pay attention to the drive, I instead focus on the rotating hands on my wristwatch. Elliott would be so pissed, he has always sounded it long and hard how important my being punctual is.

I now see just how right he is.

"We're here now, ma'am."

"Thank you." I jump out of the car and sprint onto the grand hall.

The amount of hallways I have to navigate through first makes it all the more difficult for me to get there on time, but somehow I beat it.

Three... two... one... I push through the double doors guarding the room and hurry in, my breathing hard and my heart pounding heavily in my chest.

"My mate and Luna of the Redmoon pack is the daughter of one of our most noble chiefs, Ashlyn Conroy."

The world around me stops spinning instantly and a deafening silence descends around me. What the hell?

My eyes jerk around the hall until I spot my twin sister sliding across the marble floor in the direction of my mate, Young Alpha of the Redmoon pack, Elliott Brine.

My mouth moves of its own accord. "What the hell are you doing, Elliott?"

All eyes turn on me immediately and Elliott's face blanches as he notices me standing there, before he masks his face into an expressionless piece.

"You finally deemed it fit to attend the event? How thoughtful of you."

"I ran a little late..." I start to explain.

He cuts me off. "A little? You're almost an entire hour late, Aislyn."

"So you're picking someone else as luna because I ran late?"

"You cannot take anything seriously, A. How can I, for the good of the pack, hand over such an important task to someone who cannot even be bothered to appear early for her mating ceremony?"

The words ring in my ears and a lone tear rolls down my cheek. "And that gives you a good enouh excuse to mate with my twin? She's my blood, Elliott! A replica of me."

"She's the daughter of a noble, and has all of the qualities needed for her to ascend the pack leadership."

The current Alpha of the pack, Elliott's father, is sick and dying so I cannot turn to him for help. So I do the one thing that I never do, ask my father for help.

I make my way over to the part of the hall where all the council chiefs are seated, watching the drama unfold with calm eyes.

"Dad, are you really going to let Ashlyn replace me? Elliott is my mate." I plead with my father.

"Not anymore, Elliott is now your Alpha. And Ashlyn your luna."

Shock reverberates through me and I stagger backwards. No. No.

I know that Dad prefers Ashlyn to me, but I didn't think he would go as far as depriving me of my mate and letting my sister replace me.

"When we're you going to tell him you're an omega wolf? You found out this morning, didn’t you?" Ashlyn's voice carries over the room to me.

My gaze jerks up to her as I swivel around in shock. No. How did she find that out?

A sinister smile curves her lips. "I didn’t take you for one who would conceal the truth just for power. How long did you think you could lie about it?"

She walks down in my direction and whispers so only I can hear as soon as she reaches me. "I'm carrying Elliott's child and would be crowned Luna soon. I would leave the pack if I were you. There's only room for one queen."

My palm connects with her face instinctively. "Elliott would never cheat on me."

She falls to the ground in a dramatic heap and whimpers rather loudly. "I'm sorry, sister, but I cannot refuse the Alpha's wish to mate."

"I am his mate. I am fated to him by the moon goddess herself. You cannot get in the way of that."

"Enough!" Elliott booms from his place on the podium. "If you dare lay a finger on the Luna of this pack again, you would spend the rest of your life in prison."

"Then reject me, Elliott. Reject the mating that has been in place for years!" I cry out.

"I am your Alpha! You dare not address me by my first name again."

As soon as the words leave his mouth, my phone pings with a notification. I pull it out of my purse and glance at it. No! No! Oh my...!

I can't take anymore of it. I do the one thing that I never thought I would. I run.

I sprint as fast as I can away from the grand hall, tears spiraling down my cheeks in hot torrents. I can't breath. I can't think. I can't do a single thing except run.

I dash past speeding cars, my muscles screaming for a reprieve as I push them more and more, urging them to carry me away from the madness.

My mate has been sleeping with my twin sister for years, and I find out on my birthday. While he mates with her.

Cars honk as I race in front of them, not bothered by the fact that I could be hit by any one of them.

I leap over pavements, running until I reach the edge of the pack's forest. I don't stop though, I continue straight into the density of the woods, surrounded by trees and grass.

After about another four hours of endless running, I feel the air being knocked out of me, pain taking over from where the adrenaline stopped.

I lower myself to the ground in an unfortunate heap, leaning against the bark of a tree and struggling to catch a breathe.

I am doomed. I cannot go back to the pack after walking out on the Alpha, and I wouldn't even if I could. Ashlyn has already made a public declaration of my omega status, not to mention the fact that she has been rolling in the sheets with my boyfriend and is now mated to, and pregnant for him.

How much more unlucky can I possibly get? Right from when we were kids, Ashlyn has been the preferred one.

I was the one who killed our mother after all.

There's no point going back. I'm mated still to a man who has never loved me, have been betrayed by the sister who shares the exact same features as me, and have rebelled against the pack by disrespecting the Alpha publicly.

I start to tear my dress. I rip off fabric after fabric from the huge skirt of my ball gown, then I piece them together.

When I am sure that I have made a strong enough, and long enough rope, I make it into a noose and get off the ground.

I hang the noose around my neck and climb up the tree, inching higher and higher despite the protests of my sore muscles. This is the last time I would ever feel pain. Totally worth it.

I finally make it to a branch that is strong enough to hold my weight, then I secure the rope around it, tighten the noose around my neck and drop myself over the edge.

I feel the air automatically cut off from my lungs and I close my eyes, feeling the tears as they stream down my face in silent agony.

The pain would be over soon.
