“Yes, I won again!” I beamed, dropping the control system and dancing.
I spun around, excitedly calling out to my husband, Ryan, "Babe, did you see that?!" But instead of his familiar smile, I was met with curious glances from unknown faces. Embarrassed, I quickly composed myself, in order to avoid drawing more attention.
Where did he go?
I glanced around, searching for his tall and slim physique.
I glanced at my wrist watch, and then muttered, “Oh no… It has been an hour.”
I came to the gaming house with Ryan to have some fun, but got caught up in winning that I lost track of time. Now, I couldn't find him anywhere.
What was I expecting? Ryan wasn't a game lover like me, so I guess seeing me engrossed in the game made him feel left out, and he decided to give me my space.
“Ryan?” I called softly, scanning the place for him, slightly getting worried.
A thought crossed my mind–maybe Ryan had retired to our hotel room. I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of that sooner. But why didn't he tell me before leaving?
I pulled my phone out of my pocket to dial his number, but stopped when another thought struck me. A smile of mischief played at the corners of my head. I'd surprise him by putting on a spicy show. willing my legs to the ice cream section, I bought a cup of vanilla ice cream and anticipation of licking it off his body flooded my senses as I headed to my room.
The elevator doors slid open with a soft ding, and I stepped out into the quiet hallway of the fourth floor, heading towards our room. As soon as I approached the door, a frown creased my forehead and I slowed down, eyeing the slightly ajar door.
Had he forgotten to lock it?
My mind began to race with worst-case scenarios, but before I could entertain the thought of robbery, soft moans drifted from within, causing my stomach to twist into knots.
“What if he's just watching television?” I asked myself in my head, refusing to entertain thoughts of my husband cheating.
“Yes!” I heard her feminine voice, which was mixed with pleasure and excitement. “Harder, big boy!” She moaned, followed by the loud sounds of their skin slapping hard against each other.
Pushing the door open, and letting myself into the room, I froze to a spot and my heart seized to beat for a minute because of the sight before me. On the king-sized bed situated at the middle of the room was Ryan kneeling behind a brunette, slamming hard into her.
My heart writhed in pain, and anger burst in my chest, coursing through my veins.
They were far too engrossed in their state of pleasure that they were oblivious of my presence.
“Ryan!” I exclaimed, body vibrating with torrents of annoyance.
They lifted their heads to view me with shock clouding their eyes. Instantly, Ryan's eyes widened, and he pulled out of her. The brunette got under the duvet with shame evident in her eyes.
“Babe!” Ryan jumped out of the bed and put on his briefs. “How come you're here so soon?” He questioned, making his way to me, extending a hand.
I moved back, avoiding his touch with a thumping heart.
“Ava, listen, I…” Ryan attempted explaining to me, but I wasn't interested in hearing his lies.
“Stop it. Keep your explanation to yourself, Ryan.” My voice was already cracking from the waves of sad emotions that racked through me. I felt my heart shatter into hundreds of pieces, and my fingers were balled into fists.
My eyes darted to the bed, and my nose wrinkled in disgust.
"Get out, you whore!” I yelled, my eyes fixed on the brunette, who shivered in fear.
She put on her dress, and grabbed her bag. Just when she was about to get off the bed, Ryan held her back, saying, “Ava, calm down. You can't just…”
I returned my eyes to his face, my nostrils flaring. “I can't just do what, Ryan? I dare you to say it!” I bellowed, interrupting him.
“You can't just send her away, I have a lot to say and she can be my witness,” he said, and I narrowed my eyes into crinkled slits of annoyance and incredulity.
“Shut up, you miserable man! And you…” I turned to the brunette, anger simmering underneath my skin. “Get out before I lose my horses on you!”
She jerked up and ran out of the room, leaving me with Kelvin who sat down unbothered.
Turning to face him with my arms folded against my chest, I asked, “You want her to be your witness as you lie to me. Is that how low you can go? Sleeping with a common receptionist?!”
“Look, Felicia isn't just…”
“Wait…did you just say Felicia?” The name rang a bell in my head. “Felicia Campbell? Your childhood crush?”
My heart shattered as I saw his eyes soften. It was her. Ryan had been obsessed with his childhood crush who left their town with her family. He'd always mentioned her whenever we were together, but I didn't think much of it.
“I won't lie, I wanted to see her. Remember she left Cambridge when we were still teenagers? I've missed her Ava, and you know it…”
Before he could complete his sentence, I raised my hand and swung it, making sure I struck him hard in the face. His head tilted downwards, and I could see his cheek deepening to red.
Instinctively, he nursed his cheek and lifted his head to look at me. “You slapped me?” He asked, anger and disbelief flashing in his eyes.
“And I'll do it again and again. Ryan, how could you? You cheated on me several times, but I let it all slide; now you're fucking your childhood friend on our two years anniversary?” I seethed, feeling phantom blows in my gut.
“Wait, is she the reason you insisted we stay at this hotel? You had it all planned out…” My lips trembled at the realization.
“Look who's talking like she's righteous,” Ryan said, rolling his eyes. “You were the one who abandoned me at the gaming house when you know fully well I ain't a game's person!” He yelled.
I blinked rapidly in confusion. Was he trying to blame me for his inability to control his dick? A laughter of disbelief flew out my lips.
I furrowed my forehead, fuming. “Don't you dare push the blame on me.” I poked his chest, adding, “If you had told me you wanted to have sex, then I'd have left my game; I've never deprived you of sex since we got married, have I?”
A loud unexpected laugh suddenly escaped his lips, leaving me in a web of confusion.
“Oh, my dear Ava. Do you still expect me to be tied to someone like you? Wait, you still expect me to fuck an old cargo like you?” He spat, eyeing me from head to toe with a look of disgust.
“What?” I held my chest in shock as I unknowingly stepped away from him, and my grip around the bag the ice cream was in loosened, almost slipping out of my grasp. His words stabbed my heart like a searing knife.
I dropped the ice cream bag on the table beside me.
“Of course, you're an old cargo. I've been trying to manage you but you're becoming too proud. Just look at yourself and look at the young lady you just chased out of here, is the difference not extremely noticeable?” He asked, and my throat tightened.
He held my shoulders tightly as he forcefully turned me to face the mirror behind me.
“You see, you're not half as beautiful as she is. Her hips are firm as well as her ass. The sound those cheeks made when I was rummaging her tight pussy was so melodious compared to you…” He curled up his mouth in disgust, staring at my reflection. .
My stomach churned, and tears burned my eyelids, turning my sight foggy.
Tears rolled down my cheeks like trinkles of water flowing down a rocky slope.
Was that what he saw me as? An old cargo with undefined body shape and a loose… My body shivered as sorrow enveloped me. We had been married for two years, and I thought we were the perfect click.
What did I expect from a cheating man like him?
“What? Are you suddenly speechless?” He looked at me as a wicked smile brightened up his face.
He released my shoulder, and I opened my mouth to speak, but he beat me to it with more degrading words. “You are nothing but old baggage. No one would want you except me. I've even been managing you all these while, I felt pitiful towards you. I thought I was doing you a favor by marrying you, I didn't know I was punishing myself.”
“You're a used product, a spilled milk. Now I see the reason your parents abandoned you, they already saw how useless you'd grow to become,” he snarled, and I gritted my teeth, vibrating with anger.
Turning to face him, I raised my hand to slap him again, as that was the only thing I could do. I raised my hand again to slap him for the third time, but he was able to catch my hand midair. The anger in me intensified, and I wasn't going to let him have his last laugh.
“Ryan, you can insult me. Call me names, point out how useless and foolish I am, but don't you dare involve my parents in your little game. Come to think of it, it seems you've forgotten how this old cargo made you who you are today. Everything you and I live on belongs to me! You see all these millions…" I spun my fingers around signifying the expensive hotel room. “You’re enjoying them, all thanks to me.”
I snatched my hand from his grasp and shoved his chest.
“I brought you from the slums; thanks to me, a slum boy is now an elite. I connected you to my friend's father who gave you a major contract and…" I shoved the books on the dressing table aside and brought out the documents to our current house. I was planning to sign everything to him as an anniversary gift, but thankfully, I decided to wait till tonight.
“To think I was going to give my properties to you,” I said, and his eyes widened in realization.
I held up the papers and shredded them into tiny pieces. Ryan watched in horror.
“Ava, no,” Ryan's voice broke. “It was just a prank. I love you. You're beautiful. Felicia is nothing to me.”
“Here you go,” I threw the shredded papers on him. “You can have the money I left with you and start a new life with your lover, but you see me? This is the last straw, I wish you a good life.”
“Ava, please…"
“Just shut up, you can go kiss your childhood lover. I don't care anymore; at least you've learned never to bite the finger that feeds you because it'll always backfire. My lawyer would send you the divorce papers,” I snapped.
I opened the ice cream bag, pulled out the cup and opened it. Walking closer to Ryan, I downed the ice cream on his head and smeared it all over his face.
“Ava, please,” he begged.
I packed my things, shoved them into my box, paying deaf ears to his pleas.
I left the room, while Ryan followed me behind, trying to plead, but I wasn't foolish enough to give him listening ears again. I got into the elevator, and watched his pathetic self beg. I tapped on the first floor.
Once the elevator closed, I tried to hold back my tears as I stood in the elevator, feeling as if the weight of the world had been placed on my shoulders. I had spent years building our home. Ryan and I dated for two good years before we got married and after everything, I couldn't do anything but watch the home I suffered so hard to build crumble to dust.
We'd come to this hotel to have our second anniversary as a married couple. I thought we were going to have all the fun in the world, go skiing, go swimming, and even do some nasty things together, but what I got was the total opposite of what I wanted.
The elevator opened and I walked out of the hotel, boarding a taxi. “Take me to the airport,” I instructed with a shaky voice.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as the taxi drove off. I couldn't help but reminisce on all the good times I spent with Ryan.
Though he'd cheated on me over and over again, I still forgave him because I loved him. I was happy for once in my life, and all I prayed for before now was to have beautiful kids of my own, but my happiness was taken away from me. Was I destined to be sad?
Was I cursed with misfortune? Is that why people I love kept abandoning me?
