Chapter 1 Rina

The night was ink-black, and rain tapped softly against the tall windows of Lexington City’s number one best Hospital. The sterile white lights above flickered faintly, casting long shadows across the delivery room.

Rina lay on the operating table, her body trembling with exhaustion, her skin slick with sweat. Her face was pale, almost translucent, and her long hair clung to her temples. After nearly twenty hours of labor, her voice had gone hoarse from silent screaming. But still—she did not cry.

"Push! One more time, I can see the baby’s head!" the Obstetrics doctor urged, his gloved hands poised, voice tense but composed.

Rina’s fingers clamped tightly around the bedrails. Her lips, already cracked and colorless, pressed together in a grimace as another wave of pain crashed through her. Her entire body shook, but she summoned the last of her strength, pushing with every fiber of her being.

Then—silence.

The room froze. The doctor frowned.

"The baby's stuck. We may need to make a decision now—" he looked up gravely at the nurse, then spoke quietly, "Should we notify Mr. Kyle? We might have to choose between the mother or the child."

"No," Rina rasped suddenly, her voice raw and broken. Her hand shot out and gripped the doctor’s wrist. "Save... the baby. No matter what, just save him."

The nurse’s eyes welled. The doctor gave a solemn nod. He held her hand and said “Let’s try again. Focus on me. Deep breaths. This will be the last one. Push with everything you have.”

Rina nods frantically as she takes in a deep breath ready to push again for the last time and this time she hopes her baby will finally come out.

After about 15 minutes of another struggle screaming and so much pain with a last painful push, the baby finally came out and everyone in the delivery room breathed a sigh of relief as tears of joy rolled down Rina's cheeks.

Relief swept the room like a breath of wind. The head nurse gently lifted the wailing red-faced newborn, and quickly carried him to be cleaned.

Rina blinked through the tears that flooded her eyes. She tried to lift her head, tried to see her baby—but her body betrayed her. Darkness crept in like a tide pulling her under. Her last thought was a single word whispered from the depths of her soul:

"Mine."

Her eyelids fluttered shut.

Outside the delivery room, the doctor stripped off his gloves and walked into the corridor. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

“Mr. Kyle, the baby is born. A boy. The mother and child are both safe—for now.”

Frederick leaned back in his swivel chair, the leather creaking softly as he steepled his fingers together. The dim glow of the desk lamp cast shadows on his face, accentuating the sharp lines of his jaw and the piercing intensity of his eyes. He had just wrapped up a tense phone call, and the weight of the conversation still lingered in his mind.

Before he could process his thoughts further, a knock echoed through the room, breaking the silence. The sound came from the carved wooden door in front of him, adorned with intricate patterns that seemed to dance in the soft light. Frederick's gaze shifted towards the door, his expression unreadable.

"Enter," he called out, his deep voice firm and commanding.

The young man pushed open the door and entered. In front of the tall floor-to-ceiling window, stood a tall and straight man.

The buttons of his suit were loose, revealing the crisp shirt underneath. Between the middle and ring fingers of his left hand, a cigarette was quietly burning.

"Is something wrong?" The man raised his eyebrows in a terrifying manner at Kyle, his beta who just walked in.

"Oh, the hospital just called. Well, Rina gave birth to a boy. The mother and son are safe." Kyle immediately replied.

"Yeah, I see." He said nonchalantly the man's deep eyebrows did not waver

Kyle thought that he would at least show a little emotion or at least say 'Congratulations', but before he could say anything, he continued to ask, "What time does the video conference with the Alpha at the US branch start?"

Kyle was stunned for a moment, his mind almost not keeping up with the rhythm. He raised his wrist, looked down at his watch, and carefully replied, "Half an hour later."

"Let Rowan get ready and go to the meeting room." After the man finished speaking, he extinguished the cigarette from his fingertips and walked out the door.

The video conference did not end until the next morning.

The secretary walked into the meeting room with two cups of strong coffee.

"You, don't you want to go to the hospital?" Kyle held it in for a whole night, and finally couldn't help but ask.

Alpha Frederick who was sitting opposite elegantly took a sip of coffee. After a brief hesitation, he ordered, "Get ready."

Hospital, ward.

The first ray of sunlight in the morning came in through the window lattice, and it cast a warm reflection on people.

Rina opened her eyes tiredly and looked at the sleeping child beside her. Tears poured out uncontrollably.

Thoughts of everything she had gone through played in her mind.

She was nineteen years old. At her age, other girls were still tucked under their parent’s care, but she was already a mother.

Although, this was a child whose father was unknown. Although, when she first learned that she was pregnant, she almost collapsed. But in the past nine months, he had sprouted and grown in her body. He had become an inseparable part of her life.

Maybe it was motherhood. Therefore, when the doctor said that she might have a difficult birth, she was willing to trade her life for the child's hope of survival.

Rina was still in deep thought when suddenly she heard a knock on the door at this moment. She quickly wiped the tears from her cheeks with the back of her hand and said hoarsely, "Please come in."

She thought it was a nurse who came to check on her . However, the door opened and a handsome young man walked in.
