His Rejected Luna: The Alpha’s Second Chance
"I, Alexander Blackridge, Alpha of the Blackridge Pack, reject you as my Luna, Emily Davis Blackridge. From tonight on, you are no longer my mate."
Emily's eyes widened; she couldn't speak. Now, her former mate turned his back on her, tearing apart a blood oath as if it were just a boardroom sentence.
"Are you rejecting me, Alex?"
"This is the only way, Emily."
Emily shook her head quickly, tears welling but refusing to fall.
"No! You can't just stand here and sever our blood bond with your cold words!"
Alexander didn't care. His silvery eyes stared straight ahead, unblinking. The eyes of an Alpha. Eyes that forced dozens of wolves in the pack to submit. Eyes that once pleaded only with Emily, under the full moon.
"I've consulted with the Elders. The pack will witness the official ritual tomorrow night. This verbal rejection is enough to let the ancestral spirits know we're done," Alexander replied flatly.
Emily let out a faint laugh. "You're an Alpha billionaire, a CEO celebrated in the financial papers, yet this petty with your own Luna? Are you proud?"
Alexander stepped to the table. His hand reached for a glass, his long fingers pressing it too hard. The golden liquid inside the crystal trembled as if Emily's words didn't matter much.
"You know the reason. You know better than anyone. I won't let this pack fall apart just because we—"
"Because I haven't given you an heir, right? Because my womb is empty? Is that the problem?" Emily cut him off.
"It's not just about a child; it's about the bloodline. About the merger with Bennett Holdings. Victoria brings parliamentary support, the northern mining export route. If I don't unite the bond with her—"
SLAP!
Emily's hand slammed onto the marble table. The sound echoed, making the bookshelf tremble slightly. The stacks of contracts at the table's edge shifted.
"I'm not a merger brick, Alex! I'm your mate! Your Luna! Half of your soul!"
Alexander closed his eyes. A long breath escaped his tight chest, but his face stayed rigid as he looked at Emily again.
"You'll still live with honor, with the pack's protection, with land in the South. No one will dare touch you."
Emily let out a small laugh, then her hand reached for the silver pendant at her neck, the small circle he once clasped around her under the moonlight. A symbol of their vow: to live and die together, blood and flesh mingled at the forest altar.
"Do you remember this?" Her hand lifted the pendant. "You said, as long as this pendant stayed on my neck, nothing could separate us but death. Where is your promise now, Alpha?"
Alexander looked at the pendant.
"Take it off, Emily."
Emily shook her head. A single tear dropped onto the back of her hand, then onto the pendant.
"No! I won't. I'm bound to you."
Alexander's footsteps drew closer, his masculine scent intoxicating to Emily, then his hand reached for her fingers. With a slow motion, the chain slipped free. The pendant fell, hitting the marble floor with a sharp clink—a sound that split Emily's heart.
"You're free," Alexander said.
Emily stepped back, her shoulder hitting the table and trembling. "Do you think after this I can live normally? Do you think my wolf will stay silent? Do you think every full moon I won't call for you?"
Alexander didn't answer. At the corner of his lips, his jaw tightened, his teeth holding back a growl he wouldn't release. Emily knew inside his chest there was a wolf too, just as wild, just as hungry, but Alexander locked that cage tight for one word: power.
"I don't want your house, your money, or your pack's protection. You want freedom? Fine, but hear this, Alexander Blackridge." Emily lowered herself, picking up the pendant from the floor, clutching it tightly.
"A rejected Luna never truly dies. You'll hear my howl every full moon. You'll smell my blood in this land forever."
Alexander turned his face away as if he refused to hear her any longer.
"Emily?"
Emily slapped his hand away. "Enough!"
She quickly walked out and opened the door, only to find Victoria standing there. Her white dress brushed the floor; her blonde hair was half-damp, her red lips smiling as if someone else's broken home were her victory.
"Oh, so the Luna's finally rejected too," Victoria sneered.
Emily stepped closer, their noses almost touching.
"He'll still look for me in his sleep, Victoria. In his howls, in the bite at your neck, he'll only ever call for me."
Victoria shivered, but her lips still forced a thin smile. "Get out! This pack will have a new Luna, more worthy."
Emily chuckled softly. "The true Luna never really dies."
She turned, casting one last glance at Alexander.
"Goodbye, my Alpha."
Victoria quickly moved closer to Alexander, her hand caressing the broad shoulder of the Alpha while throwing a mocking glance at Emily, still standing at the door. Emily held her breath, wanting to tear them apart right then and there—but it wasn't time yet.
"Why are you still standing there?" Alexander asked.
"I'll leave soon. I just want to see your faces now so I'll remember you well," Emily said.
"Oh, you don't need to—because soon we'll be all over the news as the perfect couple!" Victoria said mockingly.
Alexander stepped forward toward Emily. "Leave! You only disgust me!"
"Actually, I'm the one more disgusted. Bye!"
The door slammed shut with a loud bang. Emily wiped her tears, still remembering the first time they met and Alexander claimed her as his Luna. Now, the Luna title was finished for Alexander, but not for Emily.
The door swung open again, and there stood Alexander, tall and imposing, staring at Emily as he tossed her forgotten bag at her face. It was an insult. Emily looked at him once more.
"You still want to see my face?" Emily asked.
"No," Alexander replied.
The Alpha walked away and stepped into the elevator, with Victoria following behind him. As they entered the elevator, Emily looked into Alexander's eyes. The man stayed silent as the elevator doors closed tightly, while Emily gently touched her still-flat stomach.
"If only you knew one thing."
