Chapter 1

The Night That Changed Everything

Valerie’s POV:

I never imagined my life would end up like this.

Fresh out of college, I was already knee-deep in the harsh reality of adulthood. Job hunting felt like screaming into a void—resume after resume sent, and not a single reply.

My bills were stacking up, rent was around the corner, and my savings were almost gone.

Out of desperation, I took a night shift job at The Crimson Lounge. A club filled with loud music, overpriced drinks, and customers who thought respect was optional.

It wasn’t what I dreamed of, but it paid just enough to survive.

Three weeks in, the exhaustion was unbearable. The shift wore me down, and tonight pushed me over the edge. One customer, dripping in entitlement, refused to tip and mocked me for asking.

I wanted to scream, but instead, I smiled like I was trained to.

I just returned to the counter, and poured myself a shot of tequila. Because I desperately needed something to numb the ache. And I accidentally downed it faster than I should have.

Dizzy, I pulled myself together for the next table, wearing that same forced smile.

I noticed everyone’s head turn toward the door as a strikingly handsome man entered, flanked by a group of men trailing behind him.

His aura was imposing and he was undeniably handsome, but something about the way everyone seemed interested in him, told me that he was no ordinary man.

Returning to the counter to pick up more drinks to serve, I decided to ask my coworkers about his identity.

I leaned in and asked, “Who’s the handsome guy? He looks kind of familiar.”

“He’s Sebastian, the Alpha of the Pack” Jessica whispered, leaning forward. “How do you not know the Alpha of your very own Pack?”

Oh, so that’s why he looked familiar.

I must’ve seen his face in the news or splashed across some glossy magazine. Still, I never imagined someone like him would actually show up at a club like this.

Curious, I rose onto my tiptoes and scanned the crowd, but he was nowhere to be found. He must have slipped upstairs to the VVIP lounge.

“Valerie!” Keisha, the club’s manager, called out sharply.

“Yes, ma’am.” I responded, hurrying over.

“Go grab a bottle of Armand de Brignac, two bottles of Legacy by Angostura, and one Macallan Scotch from the back. Then take them to the VVIP lounge with four glasses.”

I gave a quick nod and dashed off to the storage. After collecting everything on the list, I headed straight for the lounge.

Inside, I quietly served the drinks, uncapped each bottle, and poured a glass for each of his friends. Then, finally, I turned to him.

I didn’t want to stare deeply, but I couldn’t look away. I brought him a drink on shaky legs, trying not to let the fear in my chest show.

“Here.” I said quietly, setting down the glass, in front of him.

He looked up at me then, eyes locking with mine for a second that felt like forever. There was something vulnerable in them, something I’d never seen in anyone before.

“I’m Sebastian.” He said, with a smirk.

I blinked, surprised. “I know.”

He chuckled. “Don’t be scared.”

Scared? Yeah, I was terrified. But something inside me pulled me closer, even when every part of me screamed to run.

That night spiraled out of control fast. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I was tangled up with Sebastian, the ruthless Alpha.

When I woke up the next morning, everything from the night before came rushing back. I wasn’t exactly proud of what I’d done—but I couldn’t say I fully regretted it either.

Turning my head, I saw Sebastian sitting on the couch in a robe, scrolling through his phone. He looked up slowly, and in that instant, I noticed something different.

The warmth from last night was gone.

“Who are you?” He asked, coldly.

I froze, unsure how to respond. When I finally tried to remind him of what happened between us, he stared at me like I’d lost my mind.

“I don’t know who you are.” He said, colder this time. “And don’t bother coming around again.”

Swallowing the humiliation, I quickly got dressed and slipped out without another word. I didn’t even go home, because I still had a shift at the club that morning, and I needed something to distract me from the tightness in my chest.

Weeks passed, and I kept on trying to act like nothing happened. Until the nausea was impossible to ignore. And when the doctor confirmed that I was pregnant, I froze on the spot.

I was pregnant for a man who didn’t even remember sleeping with me. How ridiculous was that?

Still, I took a cab straight to the Packhouse, determined to face him. When I arrived, I told the guards I needed to see the Alpha urgently. After a quick check to make sure I wasn’t a threat, they let me in.

I was escorted to the living room, offered a glass of water, and asked for my name. One of them said they’d let the Alpha know I was here.

But when Sebastian finally came down the stairs, his expression was anything but welcoming. “What are you doing here?” He asked, impatiently.

"I..." I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm pregnant." The words trembled out of me, cracking at the edges.

He blinked, like he didn't hear me right.

“You’re what?” He demanded.

I took a step closer. “I’m carrying your child, Sebastian.”

He chuckled. “Your gold digging skills won't work on me. You think I’ll just… take care of you?”

“Please.” I pleaded, the tears I’d been holding back finally spilling free. “I didn’t plan this, I promise.”

His gaze dropped to the floor. “You’re a delusional.”

“Please.” I begged again, my voice cracking. “You can’t just throw me away.”

He took a step back, signaling two guards standing silently by the far end of the living room. “Get her out.”

Before I could protest, rough hands grabbed my arms. “No! Sebastian, please!” I shouted, but he just glared.

I was dragged out of the Packhouse and thrown to the ground. I sat there for a while, then, with trembling hands, I wiped away my tears, forced a smile onto my face, and called a cab back to the club for my night shift.

But when I got there, the bouncer blocked my path. “Sorry.” He said, barely meeting my eyes. “Orders from the boss. You're banned. Apparently, you upset one of his most powerful clients.”

I wanted to laugh—loud and bitter—at how cruel the Moon Goddess could be. But all I could do was stare blankly into the night, and question myself.

Sebastian didn’t want me, he also didn’t want our child. And now he didn’t even want me to work to support it?

Should I just abort the baby? Would that be easier?

Where was I even supposed to begin?

I went home that night and immediately started packing. I needed to leave—find another Pack, get a job at another club, and raise this child on my own, as best as I could.

But just as I was folding the last of my clothes, a knock sounded at the door.

A man introduced himself as Samil—Sebastian’s messenger. He came bearing a message: I was to report to Sebastian first thing in the morning.

When I refused, he didn’t argue. He simply looked me in the eyes and warned me of the consequences.

I didn’t sleep a wink.

At dawn, I showered, got dressed, and made my way back to the Packhouse. This time, the guards welcomed me like they’d been expecting me.

I was led to Sebastian’s study. And there he was, seated, with that unreadable look in his eyes.

He leaned back in his chair and said. “You’re wolf-less, aren’t you? That’s why you haven’t realized that I am your mate.”

My eyes widened, lips parting in disbelief, but no words came out.

“You have nowhere else to go, Valerie.” He continued, rising to his feet. “This is your home now.”

I shook my head. “I don’t… I’m not—”

He cut me off with a glare. “You’re my mate whether you like it or not. And don’t get the wrong idea—I’m not here to love you, or protect you. You’ll stay until the baby is born. And after that, you'll disappear.”
