Chapter 1

KAYLA POINT OF VIEW

I stand in front of the mirror, adjusting my hair for the fifth time. Tomorrow is my wedding day, my dream, my fairy tale. My reflection smiles back at me, but the smile feels forced. "You’ll be fine, Kayla. It’s just nerves," I whisper to myself.

My eyes drift to the wedding dress hanging by the closet for the umpteenth time, it was soft, white, beautiful, exactly how I imagined it since I was a little girl. Just looking at it makes my chest tighten with excitement.

Tomorrow, I’ll walk down the aisle toward Aiden, the Beta of the Blue Wave Pack. My soon-to-be husband. My fated mate.

I picture his smile, those warm eyes lighting up when he sees me in that dress. My cheeks flush at the thought. Maybe I should text him, I thought Immediately my mind drift to him. I reach for my phone to text him, then stop...No. Better yet, I’ll surprise him. One last sweet visit before tomorrow just him and me.

I grab my purse and slip out of the house quietly. If my parents find out, they’ll scold me about it being bad luck before, but I don’t care. I want to see him.

The taxi ride feels longer than usual. My stomach flutters with happiness, and nervousness, but my wolf shifts uneasily inside me. 'Something’s wrong,' she murmurs.

I shake my head. “Stop it,” I whisper. “We’re just overthinking.”

When I reach Aiden’s house, I knock softly on the door. No answer. I try again, louder. Still nothing. A cold feeling creeps into my stomach. The lights are on. That means he is home. I push the door open slowly and carefully.

The moment I step inside, I know something’s wrong. Still I went in. Then I heard a low groan and a muffled voice coming from his room. My pulse quickens. "No. It can’t be," I muttered softly.

Step by step, I followed the sound until I reach the bedroom. I push the door slightly open, and my world collapses right there.

Jessy, my best friend, body is pressed against Aiden’s. Her fingers trail down his chest like she owns him. His voice, that voice I used to crave, whispers something to her that made her laugh.

They don’t see me yet.

“Tell me again how Kayla’s too pure to handle you,” she teases, breathless.

Aiden grins darkly, his voice rough and cruel.

“She will cry and beg every time I touch her," he growls. “Begging me to stop, saying she’s not ready. Always leaving me hanging like some fucking bitch.” He thrusts harder into her, groaning loudly. “But you, you take it like a bad girl, like you were made for me.”

For a second, I can’t breathe. The room spins over me. The betrayal slices through me like a knife. My chest tighten, my breath shallow, my vision blurs. My wolf growls angrily.

I kick the door angrily, and it slam against the wall.

They freeze.

Jessy’s eyes widen in shock, then narrow at me arrogantly. Aiden scrambles off her instantly, his cock still hard, and glistening.

"Kayla..."he called trying to reach out of me.

"Don’t you dare," my voice cracked.

Jessy sits up, clutching the sheet to her chest. Flashing me a triumphant smile. “Oops. The cat is out of the bag,” she purrs. “Or should I say... The bitch as know her place? "

Aiden tries to reach out for me again, steadying himself. "Baby, listen..."

I slap his hand away in disgust. "Tomorrow, Aiden. Tomorrow I was going to finally let you have me. I was going to say yes to you."

His shrug casually, and it makes me angrier. “Kayla, I’m sorry. You know I’ve never been the monogamy type. You’re my fated mate, you always will be, but…” He glances at Jessy." But Jessy? She handle me so well, when all you say is wait till marriage. Now I can't seems to let her go. And I have finally gotten to fall in love with her, I didn't know how that happen... but it did anyway

My breath catches. “What are you saying?”

“Maybe we can make it work,” he says quietly, running a hand through his hair. “An open marriage. You get to have who you want, and I’ll have Jessy. We won’t break the bond or anger the Moon Goddess.”

For a moment, I just stare at him. Then I laugh. Hard, bitterly. “Do you hear yourself? You want me to share my mate? You are beyond disgusting.”

Jessy let out a cruel smile. “Poor little bride. Thought he would wait for your perfect wedding night?” She leans in, her voice filled with venom. “He’s been inside me since the engagement party. While you picked your wedding gown, he buried himself in your maid of honor.”

My knees feel suddenly too soft to hold me. The room tilts. Amy claws at my ribs.

"He said your virgin blood would stain his sheets," she says, disgust written all over her face. "He like is woman experience like me. You are so naive to handle him the way I do."

I rushed towards her immediately. My fingers find hair and I pull it hard. Jessy let out a loud piercing screams, her nails ripping at my hands. "Get off me, you crazy virgin," she spits.

Aiden grabs my waist and pushes me hard. I crash into the dresser, and the mirror shatters. Glass flies everywhere, scattering across the floor. My wrist and lips were bleeding as a thin line of blood trail my skin, but I barely feel it.

“Touch her again, and I’ll break you,” Aiden shouted.

I wiped the blood from my lips and looked him in the eyes. “Touch me again, and I’ll burn this whole pack to the ground, and wouldn't hesitate to end you and your perverted father.”

They both stared at me like I was insane. Maybe I was. Without another glance, I run out in tears

Outside, the night air burns my lungs. My wolf howls inside me, heartbroken and furious.

We should have ripped them apart, Amy snarls.

“Not now,” I whisper. “They’ll pay when the time is right.”

***********************************************

When I get home, my parents are in the living room. The moment they see my face, Mom rushes to me, looking shocked.

“Kayla, what happened? Where are you coming from?”

I collapse into her arms. Only then do the tears fall freely.

She strokes my hair, whispering softly, “It’s okay, sweetheart. Tell me what happened.”

I pull back, trying to speak through my sobs. “He cheated, Mom. With Jessy.”

Her hands freeze mid-air, for a second, I thought she would freak out, I thought she would curse him out. Instead she answered with a false hope. “Are you sure? Maybe you misunderstood, darling. Aiden loves you he...”

“He loves himself!” I snap, my voice shaking. “I saw them together! I don't want to go through with the marriage.”

Dad stands up slowly, his expression unreadable. “You don’t have a choice, Kayla,” he says sternly. “This marriage seals our alliance with the other pack. Without it, we face war. You will not throw that away because of one mistake.”

I don't know if I should laugh, or scream, or punch him. “A mistake? He betrayed me. He slept with my friend!” I repeated to be sure of what I was hearing.

"You think I want this for you?" Dad’s voice cracks for a second before he steels himself. “If this marriage doesn’t happen, everything I built, our home, this pack, it all burns, we would become slaves to Junior pack. I won’t let that happen."

I remained quietly staring at the stranger right in front of me. This isn't the man that raise me, that pamper me, that would always stand up for me when other official would say I'm worthless, because I'm a female child.

“But this marriage isn’t just about you, Kayla. It’s about survival. The Blue Wave pack is hanging by a thread. If this union goes through, other packs will come under us, sign alliances, trade resources, with us. We’ll be safe again.”

He pauses, his voice low. “I made promises… debts I can’t afford to break. If this wedding falls apart, they’ll come for me, and for all of us.”

My heart pounds. “So you would sacrifice me to save your pride?”

He flinches, but forces his tone to harden. “You call it pride. I call it duty and politics. Sometimes a man must endure shame to protect his pack."

He turns away, muttering softly. “A Beta will always seek pleasure elsewhere, Kayla. It's normal. That’s just how things are. Don’t make it bigger than it is,"

The words hurt me, It shattered my heart.

“Normal?” My voice trembles. “You’re saying it’s normal for him to humiliate me? To sleep with my best friend?”

Dad doesn’t even flinch. “That’s how things are, Kayla. Men stray, power gives them that right. You’ll learn.” His eyes dart away for a moment, just enough for me to see the guilt hiding there before he buries it again. “You’re tied to him, but he isn’t tied to you. That’s how the world works.”

I let out a shaky laugh. “So being your daughter means I’m just another trade item? A tool to protect your alliances and the pack that wouldn't hesitate to turn their back at you it something goes wrong?”

I glance at Mom, hoping, begging, for her to defend me. For once, just once, to stand on my side.

She finally steps closer, her voice soft but her words hurt more. “Being the Beta’s wife is an honor, sweetheart. If you walk away now, people will talk. They’ll question your worth. They’ll shame us.”

My heart drops. “So my happiness means nothing to either of you.”

They don’t answer. They don’t have to. Their silence says everything.

I can feel a shift inside me. The sadness vanish away instantly, replaced with an unexplainable coldness. “Why don't we run away?”my wolf, Amy whimpered, “we can't take this.”

“We can't, we have to consider my father status. If we run away they would come for us, they would consider us irresponsible. We have to do it for the sake of the pack."”

My throat goes dry. As I picture hunters going hungry, pups without food, the rich feeding on the poor. The thought of that pierce my heart. “Fine,” I whisper, forcing a smile that doesn’t reach my eyes. “I’ll go through with it.”

Dad exhales heavily, almost in relief. “Good.” Then, under his breath he muttered something, that I almost missed it, “If you don’t, he’ll expose me.”

My stomach twists. “Expose you?”

But he was already walking away, leaving me staring after him, before I could question. .

Mom sighs, forcing a tired smile as she hugs me. “You’re doing the right thing, honey. You’ll see, it’s for the best.”

But as I pull away, I’ve already made my decision.

I’ll go along with their plans for now.

But on the day of the wedding, I'll give them a huge surprise, that would make them all beg for mercy, and I’ll show none.
