The Alpha's Obsession
Alvura
The moment my box hit the marble floor of the narrow hallway, reality dawned on me. What was I doing?
For a moment, I thought back at how poorly the chauffeur had treated me. I was used to assistance, but I received none from him. He didn't even offer to help drag my luggages out of the bus. I did it all alone. It didn't help that I was all dressed like a boy in a loose fitting flannel shirt and jeans that hid my curves.
While I trudged through the stairs, I still had to run the marathon alone: no one offered to assist, and then it rang in my mind as if I pressed a reset button that I was supposed to be a boy. How did I forget that?
It must really suck being a boy, I thought, dragging myself along the hallway, already perspiring from the heat and stress. Learning how to be a man was a lot harder than I'd anticipated. Why did I choose this hard way? Because this is the only place my parents will never bother to look in.
“Welcome to school, boy!” A boy snarled, as he walked past me in the hallway.
Boy? I stood there with my jaw half dropping to the ground. Did I really count the cost?
My decision to attend an all boys school was brewed out of pure frustration. My parents wanted me to marry some boy I barely even know. My twin brother, Alvin said he'd met him once, and called him a dick. So, why would I marry a pig of a prince?
“Hey, man!” A boy greeted, rushing out of the hallway with his friend.
Hey man? Boys really have an absurd way of greeting each other, I thought, wriggling my nose.
I was way past some rooms when a voice heralded from behind. “Yo!”
I swerved around to a tall, and lanky boy with eye glass running towards me. I was merely able to resist the urge to sprint, but come on, this was going to be my new home, so I better learn to fit in.
“What's….. what's up?” I said, raising a hand for a high five when the dude was within proximity.
The boy frowned, but punched me on the shoulder and I heaved a sigh of relief. Grateful that he hadn't suspected anything.
“Do you need some help with that?” he asked, looking down at my luggages.
“Yes, sure.” I replied, releasing another breath. At least, someone had eyes to see that I was in need of assistance, I thought, with my eyes closed.
At that instance, I promised to hook on this boy like a leech. I may not be as strong as the other boys in my human form, but I was going to make sure I didn't stand out. I replayed the rules in my head, ‘just fit in, don't try to be a princess.’
“I'm Leo, by the way, and you are?” my new friend said, holding out his hand for a handshake.
Oh, I could do that, I thought.
“Al….Alvin.” I replied, giving his hand a tight shake which I hoped didn't feel awkward.
“You're a freshman?” He asked, pointing a finger at me. I nodded, and he inquired further, leading me to my room. “Why did you choose Preston College?”
Oh, I didn't choose Preston College of Science and Leadership. This is the only getaway car I could think of to avoid getting married to some werewolf prince. I wanted to say, but I couldn't.
“I just…..” I stuttered, searching for words to escape getting caught. “My parents chose it.” I blurted, biting my lower lip. My parents weren't aware that I was missing yet.
“Whoa! They still do that?”
“Yea. Well, mine still does. They think I have to learn etiquette about leadership and stuff.”
“What's your major?”
“It's undecided for now, I'm just exploring.” I replied, which was partially true. There was nothing I could use my certificate from Preston for. I mean, I don't even exist.
By this time, we'd arrived at the door of my room, pushed the door open, and were inside the room.
“Whoa! A macho place you got here.” He said, with his lips apart as he glanced around the room. I thought he looked cute with that lame frame around his eyes, and black freckles on his face.
“I hear that I have a roommate, he must've….”
“Can you keep it down?” A more rugged, masculine voice roared, and we turned to stare.
At first I didn't see anything, until the speaker stirred and sat up on his bed, and time stood still. Even my sensory organs stopped working while my mouth stayed open for a while. I'd never seen anyone so handsome in all my life. I thought he was an incubus with his angelic appearance. He had gorgeous sky blue eyes, full pink lips, brown hair that framed his round face and a well defined jawline.
He didn't say anything as he sat up, only stared at us. I could feel the intensity of his gaze as he sat there, lips apart with drugged eyes like he was trying to understand what I was.
“You are?”
“Leo. Leonard Ben.”
“Not you, Lo-ner. I'm talking to the new kid.” He barked in a brusque voice.
I saw Leo shift uncomfortably on his feet from the corner of my eyes, but I couldn't imagine how this cutie could scare anyone.
“Alvin Malone.”
“You all bare poetic names,” he croaked and I chuckled.
Oh ho! I realised too late that I wasn't supposed to do that when he glared at me with burning coals of fire, and Leo gave me a light tug.
“What did I tell you about coming into my room, Loner?”
“I'm sorry, alpha.” Leo apologized, and ran out like a rat leaving the handsome alpha and I alone.
Alpha? Who was he? My heart skipped a little.
The guy only gave me a disdainful once-over stare before gathering his clothes and storming out of the room.
Immediately, he breezed out, I dumped my bags, and the novel I’d feasted on on my way to Preston, and went in search of Leo. And when I found him, he was crouching outside the building like a stray dog. I wanted to ask how old he was.
“Watch out for the noise….and the bullies.” he warned as I approached him.
“Bullies?” I asked, wide-eyed. Then I heard the noise from a distance. “What's happening out there?”
“A partial inter hostel baseball competition.” He answered, shaking his head.
“And you don't take part?”
“Nah, the bullies don't let me.”
Right, it's just my first day, and the good kid I'm hoping to hook on is a loser. How the hell will I survive?
“So, how about you? Do you play?”
“Yea, I do, but I think I want to lay low. It's my first day, if you know what I mean?”
“I do, but don't you think you might be my answered prayer?” He asked, suddenly ecstatic.
No, dude, I'm not your answered prayer, I'm a freaking girl - that was what I wanted to say. But I turned around and asked, “What do you mean?”
“If you become the school’s best baseball player, don't you see it?” He asked, jumping with excitement in his eyes.
“See what?” I asked, apparently, I wasn't following.
“We'd be untouchable.”
“I don't know about that, but I'll pass.”
“Looks like you've been properly shielded all your life, you've never been bullied have you?”
I thought for a second before answering. I've been a girl all my life, and pretty much one of the most popular girls in school, so who would bully me? Reality knocked hard again: I was a boy now, and boys got bullied by the bigger ones. That meant I had to learn to survive.
“We might have a champion now, but you too can become one.” The guy at the center of the pitch whom I recognised as the referee challenged and everywhere went silent. “Who wants to go next? Who's going to be our next champion?”
The first, burly player had been too mean, so I figured no one would want to have his ass whacked.
“You should try.” Leo nudged.
“No.” I replied, absentmindedly. “I'll pass.”
“Come on, you got what it takes.” Leo coaxed, and I rolled my eyes.
But I guess I was too slow, Leonardo already pushed me into the pitch and the crowd went wild with cheers.
“What the fuck!”
