CHAPTER ONE

My name is Reina Cole and I was named the most undesirable girl in Rivervalley, the girl who would never have a mate and the daughter of an evil witch.

It wasn't always that way. I used to be loved and adored by everyone but everything changed 3 years ago.

My father finally brought home his long time mistress, Davina. Her home had been burned down during the war and my father decided to give her a place in our home. Davina moved in with her 19 year old daughter, Marie, and our lives completely changed.

They got the best of everything and father splurged money on expensive jewelries and dresses for them. Mother and I were treated like slaves, father stopped taking care of us and even began spending mother's money on his new family.

Soon, Davina convinced father that mother had bewitched him and father publicly humiliated mother and disowned me.

Mother became devastated and decided to confront Davina. They argued and before father could intervene, mother mysteriously fell down the stairs.

Davina ruined my mother's life and even though she swore it was an accident, I could see past her lies. My mother became bedridden and developed a massive wound that would not heal.

My mother was sent to live in the slums and I became a maid in my father's house.

As if that wasn't enough, they deceived me.

I knew something was off when Davina gave me the weekend off and practically forced me to visit my mother. Mother had told me not to worry so much but everything changed when I received a letter from my friend, Stacy.

Marie was getting married to my mate and my father was throwing them a lavish wedding.

I threw on my worn out coat and ran back to my father’s castle in the middle of the night.

How could they do this to me?

Alpha Simon was the only man I had ever loved. He had chosen me as his mate on my 18th birthday and we were to be married immediately but father said he had no money.

My eyes burned with tears as I banged on the gates of my father's castle.

The guards looked at me in pity but none of them dared open the gates.

I didn't give up. I kept banging on the gates till my hands began to bleed.

Finally, the gates were opened and Davina walked out with the most irritated look plastered on her heavily made-up face.

"What do you want?" She asked, scanning me from up to down like I was filthy.

"Please let me speak to my father," I begged, my voice cracked from crying.

Davina scoffed and pushed me back with the tip of her cane. "Your father doesn't want to speak to you. Go away!"

My heart stopped, the weight of their betrayal suffocating me.

"I'm not leaving till I see dad," I replied, running into the gates.

Davina tried to stop me but I was too fast. I ran into the yard and began to search for my father.

The entire castle was beautifully decorated with gold drapes and large chandeliers I'm sure cost a fortune.

The guest were dressed like they were attending a royal ball and immediately I stepped in, their attention shifted to me. Even the musicians stopped playing and everyone stared at me like I was a monkey at a circus.

My father pushed through the crowd and his jaw almost hit the floor when he saw me.

"Reina, why are you dressed like that on your sister's wedding," he said, faking concern.

"I tried to tell her to change first but she just wouldn't listen," Davina lied and father's expression hardened.

"Why do you always embarass your family?" Father barked, pulling me roughly by my arm.

I sobbed silently, my lips trembling as I begged him to stop. He didn't stop, instead he made me kneel in front of Davina and apologise for disobeying her.

I couldn't fight, I obeyed. I fell to my knees and just as I was about to say the words, Marie walked in, Simon's arm wrapped around her tightly.

My eyes almost popped out of its socket. It was true. She had married my mate behind my back.

I couldn't tell if I was angry or hurt.

"Why?" I chocked, tears streaming down my cheeks.

I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me. I loved Simon and he loved me too. But now, he couldn't even look at me.

I ran to him but Marie ordered the guards to keep me away from her husband. Hearing her refer to him as that made my heart shatter.

Simon was supposed to save me. To take me away from this bad place. Marie had stolen everything from me- my father, my crown and now, my mate.

"Stop being so jealous, Reina," Davina said, her voice laced with hatred. "We have already found an unfortunate fellow to marry you."

"Father, did you approve of this?" I cried. My father looked away and continued chatting with his friends like I wasn't there, like his own child wasn't breaking apart in front of him.

"That mad man, Alpha Benedict, will be your husband. Alpha Simon deserves a perfect woman like me," Marie boasted as she showed off her large wedding ring.

I cried out in pain, my heart shattering to pieces. Simon had given Marrie my great-grandmother's diamond ring that I had given to him on his birthday.

The pain and betrayal was just too much. What evil had I ever done to them to be treated so badly?

"Don't cry so much, my love," Simon said, a wicked grin playing on his lips.

"If you can summon your wolf and prove that you are not a witch, I will marry you."

My breath caught in my throat. He knew I was wolfless. How was he expecting me to summon my wolf when I had none?

Marrie had the most victorious smirk plastered on her face. She knew she had won or else she would have never agreed to such a challenge.

"Come on, dear sister, summon your wolf," Marrie taunted, her eyes scanning me in disgust.

"Or would you rather be married to a mad man?"

My heart felt heavy. Benedict would kill me on sight, he hated witches and everyone knew I had witch blood.

I had no other option than to try to summon my wolf.

I shut my eyes tight, my fingers trembling as I tried to reach my subconscious. My head felt heavy and it felt like my body was losing strength.

The crowd watched in awe, everyone was patiently waiting for me to transform.

I heard my father call me a disappointment and I bit my lip to prevent myself from bursting into tears.

After what felt like eternity, I began to feel strange. A completely odd feeling I had never experienced. Was I finally connecting with my wolf?

I waited for the transformation, my heart filled with excitement but it never happened.

Instead, I started bleeding from my nose.

Panic surged through my veins and I opened my eyes. I couldn't see, I was bleeding from my eyes as well.

"What a cursed child!" My father hissed, striking me with the end of his staff.

I screamed in pain, my body twitching violently as I fell to the ground with a loud thud.

My body was losing strength. I lay still on the ground, watching as one by one, everybody left as the musicians began playing again.

"You're really worthless. I am ashamed to call you my sister," Marrie's shrill voice was the last thing I heard as everything faded into darkness.
