Poseidon's Hybrid Heiress
The beach waves felt intoxicating as I swam further with my father through the warm waters, never expecting that anything catastrophic could happen on such a perfect day.
How naive I was!
My father released my hand, and as usual, I swam toward the deeper waters where I could catch a higher wave to demonstrate my swimming skills.
But when I turned back, he had vanished.
I looked to my left and a massive wave crashed over my face. I fought my way back to the surface, frantically searching the waters for my beloved father who had been right beside me moments before. There was no one.
Panic seized me as I spun to my right, searching desperately.
My heart hammered against my ribs when I realized my father was nowhere to be found. Blood appeared from nowhere, swirling around me in the water like crimson ribbons.
I began to sob as terror consumed every fiber of my being.
"Father?" I called out desperately, swimming in erratic circles to find him. Finally, I decided to dive beneath the surface to get a clearer view.
What I saw defied all logic.
My father stood underwater in what appeared to be gleaming golden armor covering his entire body, resembling some ancient deity of the sea. I stared at him in complete bewilderment.
His hair had transformed to a brilliant golden-white, glowing with an ethereal radiance that filled me with both awe and fear. There was an otherworldly presence emanating from him that I couldn't comprehend.
A woman began swimming toward us, and absolute terror gripped me because she moved through the water with the grace and ease of a fish. She was unlike anything I had ever witnessed.
Her black tail sent chills down my spine.
Was she actually a mermaid, or was this some elaborate costume? As a werewolf, I had never encountered such a creature before.
"Stay away from my daughter, Nerida!" My father's voice boomed with fury as his dark skin began to shimmer beneath the water like precious gems.
His Alpha aura instantly changed the weather above us, causing lightning to strike the ocean's surface repeatedly.
I swam upward for air, and when I descended again, I screamed in pure horror. Two monstrous creatures with razor-sharp horns were swimming directly toward where my father and I were positioned.
"Seraphina! Stay directly behind me!" he commanded, wielding a staff that looked identical to the one carved into the necklace he had given me before all these supernatural events began unfolding.
He charged forward, battling the beasts as blood began streaming from the ocean depths to the surface where I floated helplessly.
I turned in confusion, taking in the surreal scene around me.
I screamed for the pack warriors to come rescue me, but we were too far from shore for anyone to hear my desperate cries.
I swam through the churning water, amazed that my father seemed completely unaffected by being underwater. He breathed perfectly beneath the surface as if he were standing on solid ground. I realized it was my turn to face my worst nightmare becoming reality.
I couldn't process everything happening around me, so I began swimming frantically toward shore. But I heard my name called from behind with tremendous force.
"Seraphina?"
I turned to see Nerida swimming in my direction. She looked nothing like a human because of the scales covering her body and the serpentine black tail she used to propel herself through the water.
"The truth is, I am the Oceanic Luna, and my heir and only daughter must receive her mother's blessing. Seraphina, I am your mother!" she declared, lifting me with supernatural water manipulation. But then ice shot from the depths, striking her away from me.
My father wasn't going to allow my mother to harm me.
How could she possibly be my mother?
Nerida disappeared, and I could see the confusion etched across my father's face as he searched the surrounding waters.
"Grand Alpha, you know you cannot destroy me or stop me, don't you?" her voice echoed from everywhere and nowhere.
"This is destiny! This is the prophecy, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it! Don't separate me from my daughter!" She materialized from thin air, grabbed me, and swam away with supernatural speed.
"Father!" I screamed as I began to categorize both my father and every other creature present as beyond ordinary understanding.
She released me above the water's surface, and I found I couldn't swim as the waters themselves lifted me toward her.
Then she smiled with pure malevolence, revealing teeth that were razor-sharp and elongated like some demonic entity. Her head appeared almost human-like but became absolutely terrifying when anger consumed her.
My mother was the queen of the sea?
The horror was overwhelming for me to experience all at once.
Her fingers possessed dark claws with blue glowing veins that appeared razor-sharp, as if she wanted to drain the life from me completely.
I looked past her shoulders and spotted my father in the distance.
He appeared as though he wanted to take action, but simultaneously seemed powerless to rescue me at this critical moment.
I closed my eyes, waiting for her to complete whatever she intended to do with me. When I opened them, I witnessed something extraordinary.
She was transferring her powers into my body and growing weaker with each passing second.
The waves rose to tremendous heights with my father caught within them.
I could sense my father summoning ocean-blue wolves...an ability exclusive to Grand Alphas.
I watched him transform into living metal as the waves accelerated around us.
"What do you want! We made an agreement!" My father's voice thundered across the water.
"I am Nerida! Queen of all oceans! Mother of Seraphina! Heir to the Oceanic Luna!" she replied bitterly as my father grabbed her throat.
"You've hidden our child from me for so long and replaced me with some earthly wolf? After we made a pact to keep your kind safe?" she said through tears.
What agreement were they referring to?
"You used me! I could have flooded the entire earth with my waters, but my daughter has been your only salvation!" She looked directly into his eyes, and I felt overwhelmed with emotion.
"Father! Is she really my mother?" I asked desperately.
"Yes! But Nerida! Our child belongs to both worlds, and you know she must live her father's legacy, not yours! I am a Grand Alpha!" My father responded angrily.
"You forget that we are both gods in our respective domains, and I need her as much as you do!" she replied firmly.
"If she refuses to stay with me to kill the beast of the earth, then a royal Alpha and the Oceanic Luna's blood must be sacrificed to keep the gates of hell sealed forever!" she declared.
"You must choose...either her blood gets sacrificed to seal the gates, or you and I offer our blood to keep her alive." She stared at him intensely.
"Then let's proceed." My father said with resigned determination.
The waters drew me closer to them, and I remained suspended between them as the waters rose, forming an enormous circle with moonlight glowing brilliantly above.
I began levitating from the water into the air, and that's when I witnessed my father's complete werewolf powers.
He possessed two additional eyes above his forehead that beamed crimson red, and he channeled all his energy into me. The Oceanic Luna chanted an ancient song as thunder coursed through my veins.
She was fading rapidly.
I watched my father transfer his Alpha powers into me until he began burning away completely.
Suddenly, they both exploded into stardust.
"Seraphina! Find your mate and guard the worlds!" I heard both my father's and oceanic mother's voices echo around me.
I screamed in agony as the transferred powers surged through every cell of my body.
I closed my eyes as these incredible energies rushed through me like wildfire.
The massive water sphere exploded, carrying me toward the shoreline.
I crawled from the waters, and a group of humans fled in terror from the horrific sight of thick monster blood covering my entire body.
But honestly, I'm just a seventeen-year-old girl!
My vision was blurred, but I felt the familiar vibration of my adoptive mother approaching as she ran toward me with tears streaming down her face.
I looked up at the starlit sky.
And I heard those words again, echoing in my soul.
"Find your mate."
"Guard the worlds."
I wondered who my destined mate could possibly be.
