CHAPTER 1: Betrayed

“I am your Alpha!” Haven growled, glaring daggers at the old beta and the dozens of warriors surrounding her. “You can't kick me out of my own pack. Silvermoon pack belongs to me!”

“No one made you Alpha,” Mika her best friend answered. She scoffed as she crossed her over her chest, “And this no longer Silvermoon pack. From today, this is darkmoon pack. And we have a new Alpha.” Mika smiled wickedly.

“Do you really think we would let someone like you lead us?” Beta Carlo, Mika father snarled beside her. “An anomality?”

Haven’s heart twisted hearing at that word.

An anomaly.

That was what Haven had been called all her life.. Because everything of hers was weird. From her hair to her eyes, to her dumb wolf.

Yes, dumb wolf.

Unlike everyone, Haven had shifted at a very early age. It was unheard of but everyone had been eager to meet her wolf. However, when they discovered her wolf was dumb and broken, Haven became a laughing stock. She was considered a disgrace to the powerful silvermoon pack, and was taunted and insulted at every opportunity. She was only left alive in the pack because her father was the Alpha.

Now that her parents were gone, everyone quickly turned against her.

“You are cursed!” Mika's mother spat, “A dumb wolf can never lead us!”

Murmurs of agreement filled the air.

“Yes!”

“Throw her out!”

“Kill her!”

“Burn that b*tch!”

Haven couldn't believe her ears. She had given everything to this pack. Her loyalty, her love, her blood… she gave everything. And this was how they chose to repay her?

As the pack roared angrily, Tristan suddenly appeared.

Relief washed over Haven. Tristan was finally here. He was going to help her.

But her world shattered when her fiancee walked passed her and wrapped his hands possessively around Mika instead.

“My love,” He purred, kissing Mika softly, “Did I keep you waiting?”

“You came right on time,” Mika stared at him with stars in her eyes, “We were just putting the cursed thing in her place, Alpha.”

“A-Alpha?” Haven frowned. Then, her eyes went wide as the realization hit her.

Tristan betrayed her. He was the new Alpha

Haven stumbled but Tristan didn't even look her. His full attention was on Mika as though she was the only one that mattered.

Haven’s heart broke into a million pieces. She blinked back the tears threatening to fall as she watched her fiancee dote on another woman.

Then something in Haven snapped. Without another word, she marched towards them and slapped Tristan hard across the face.

“I trusted you, Tristan!” She cried, “After everything we've shared, how could you do this to me?”

Mika’s snarled beside him, “You’re not the only one who's shared something with him.” She leaned into Tristan’s chest and intentionally tilted her neck.

Haven’s stomach dropped at the sight of the fresh mark on Mika’s neck. Triatan’s mark. It indicated she was his Luna now.

Haven subconsciously stepped back when she saw this. Her jaw dropped as she stared at Tristan in disbelief.

“Arrest her!” Mika suddenly snapped, “She dared to slap your new Alpha!”

“What are you waiting for?” Carlo, growled, “Throw this cursed rogue into the dungeons!”

Dozens of warriors rushed forward at his command.

Tears blurred Haven’s vision as she locked eyes with Tristan again. The man who would have never let anything hurt her. Now he just stood there with a blank face, Mika nestled in his arms and watching as her entire world burned down.

Mika’s taunting laugh came, the old beta and his wife smirked deviously. They had been waiting for so long and were finally going to get rid of this disgusting Haven who had been a nuisance to them.

A sob broke through Haven’s throat and she stiffled a sob, dodging out of the way as the first warrior reached her

She knew she couldn't stay here and fight.

She couldn't hurt her people.

She quickly turned and dashed into the forest, leaving her beloved pack and entire life behind.

But they didn't leave her alone.

Angry growls closed in as she ran, echoing through the trees and rattling through her skull.

They were coming after her.

“Stay away from me!” She sobbed, running as fast as she could, her legs trembling with each step. She knew she couldn't go far on foot.

She tried to shift but her wolf wasn't responding. And so she ran, her lungs burning while the thundering footsteps behind her only grew louder. Despite being considered weak, Haven was one of the best runners in the pack. She managed to put as much distance as she could between her and her chasers.

There were at least fifty wolves chasing after her. And they were gaining on her fast.

Haven knew it was just a matter of time before they caught her.

Branches slashed her arms, slicing her skin open as she dashed through the forest, her silver hair clinging to her now sweaty face.

‘Run as fast as you can, b*tch.” A warrior’s voice suddenly thundered through the mindlink “You can never escape from us!’

The rest of the wolves snickered and panic clawed down Haven’s veins. Only the goddess knew what those monsters would do once they got their hands on her. They would not spare her.

She didn't dare stop or even look back.

Hope fluttered in her chest when the slope marking the end of the Silvermoon’s territory came into her view.

Just a little more and she would escape from here.

She pushed her forward but suddenly, her foot caught on a root causing her to stumble. It was a big mistake. She lost her footing and went tumbling down the side of the slope.

Haven hissed in pain as sharp rocks and wood cut her skin. She rolled down the slope, landing hard at the bottom. Tiny needles stabbed her body at the same time her head slammed into a large rock, knocking the wind out of her lungs.

For a moment, all Haven saw was red. Hot liquid trickled down her head as she lay tangled inside a thorn bush, mind gone blank.

Above her, heavy footsteps thundered. Haven held her breath as her pursuers dashed past, not noticing the girl hidden inside the bushes. The roses did well in masking her scent and she sighed in relief only when the forest went silent again.

But just then, a shadow shifted a few feet away.

Haven looked up and her stomach dropped.

“Oh… no…..”
