The Rejected Alpha’s Mate
I never imagined today of all days to turn out this way, it was my anniversary and I watched the man I love break up with me. The man I’ve ever loved, Kael Stone, the Alpha of Shadowfang wolves and future leader of Bloodmoon pack. And the man who was the only family I had left ever since my mother died and my father abandoned me, disappearing into thin air.
It all happened in the dim light of the Bloodmoon Pack’s territory, and the tension in the air was palpable as I faced Kael, our emotions swirling like the autumn leaves around us. The woods, once a sanctuary for our love, now felt like a battleground.
I stood before him, my eyes shimmering with unshed tears, a tempest of anger and heartbreak.
“You don’t understand, Lyra! I have a pack to lead, a family to protect. They depend on me!” He said, turning away.
“Kael, you can’t just turn your back on me! Not after everything we’ve been through!” I cried, my voice cracking as I took a step closer, desperation etched on my face.
“This isn’t just about us, Lyra. It’s about the future of the Bloodmoon Pack. If I don’t take a stand against Lord Orion, then I lose my place as the alpha and fail to uphold the legacy my parents once fought for.”
“But I’m your mate! I’m the one who understands you, who sees the real you beneath the Alpha facade!” I shouted, frustration bubbling over. “You think I don’t know what it means to be strong? I’ve fought every day just to survive!”
“It’s not just about you. It’s about the pack. They need me to be strong, to be the Alpha they deserve. I can’t let my feelings for you cloud my judgment.”
His words ached in my heart, but the image of my mother’s death flashed in my mind, a haunting reminder that I was alone.
I stepped back, my heart twisted immediately, my expression shifting from anger to hurt.
“So, what? You’ll choose revenge over love? You’ll let your hatred for the enemy destroy us?” My voice softened, almost pleading. “You can’t do this, Kael. You can’t push me away just because you’re afraid!”
“I’m not afraid!” Kael snapped, frustration boiling over. “I’m trying to protect you! You’re a hybrid, Lyra. You don’t belong to either world. If I choose you, I risk losing everything I’ve got left. My pack will never accept you!”
My face paled as the words struck me like a physical blow.
“You think I don’t know that? You think I wanted to be born this way?” My voice trembled, and I took a deep breath to steady myself.
“I’ve spent my life fighting against the odds. I thought you would stand by me, not abandon me because of what I am!”
My eyes glistened with tears, and for a moment, I felt my whole world was beginning to crumble.
“So, this is it then? You’re willing to throw away everything we had for a title? For a pack?” My voice was a whisper, filled with disbelief.
“I’m sorry but I’m doing what I have to do,” He replied, his voice steadier now. “You should move on, Lyra, I can’t be with you. Not now. Not ever.”
With those final words, He turned away, walking deep into the woods until he was out of sight.
Tears filled my eyes as I walked away. It was supposed to be our first anniversary, not a breakup. How could he be so cruel? I thought he loved me?
I wouldn’t be able to imagine a day like this would come, getting abandoned again by someone who I thought loved me.
It’s been years since my father abandoned me disappearing into thin air after the death of my mother. I guess he hated me for being the cause of her death.
At this point I didn’t know where I was going but I couldn’t care less. As I walked further into the woods it became more darker and darker, feeling scared I turned around to walk back but I couldn’t find the way. God I was lost and it was dark, really no one was coming to save me. This time I was all alone for real.
“Could my life be any more miserable!!” I cried out in utter frustration.
To be honest I was petrified and I started to panic. Running around the woods I tried to find a path to follow without any success. Tired, I sat next to a tree hoping to find help someway.
Suddenly the shadows of the trees danced around me, playing tricks on my eyes, or so I thought. A new shadow, darker and more defined than the rest, began to emerge from the darkness. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat echoing the growing dread within me.
Every rustle of leaves, every snap of a twig, sent a fresh wave of terror through my veins. Was it a figment of my imagination, a cruel joke of the woods? Or was it something…perhaps someone, real?
The figure moved closer, its form still obscured by the darkness, yet the intent was clear. My breath hitched in my throat, and a cold sweat broke out on my skin. My mind raced, desperate to find a solution, a way out.
Then, a flicker of hope, a desperate yearning. Could it be Kael? Had he realized his mistake? Was he here to save me and make things right?
The figure was almost upon me now, and I could make out a shape, tall and looming. I opened my mouth to call out, to beg for help, for anything, but the words caught in my throat. A pair of eyes, gleaming in the darkness, fixed on me. And then, a low growl rumbled through the air, and the figure took another step closer.
