Despised By The World, Desired By Two Rivals!
Teagan's POV
...
I stepped out onto the balcony, my eyes taking in the view of the pack buildings scattered around the pack.
The evening breeze gave my skin a deserved gentle caress. However, it did absolutely nothing to soothe my aching heart.
Resting my palms on the balustrade, I raised my head to gaze at the evening sky, trying my best to hold back a tear from rolling down my face.
"Why?" My parched and trembling lips parted just to mutter that single word. In that moment, the monitor began beeping in alarm.
That's right, the monitor attached to my right ankle like I was a criminal. Despite the pesky beeps, I didn't head back into the room.
How did I end up in this situation?
It all began years ago.
As the eldest of my father's twin daughters, much was expected of me. And that included shifting into a powerful Alpha wolf. Being excellent at everything, including training.
However, not only was I of weak health, but I didn't shift until I turned 17, unlike my twin, Allegra, who got her powerful wolf at 13. And worst of all, when I shifted, I surprisingly got an Omega wolf with very low stamina. My wolf was trash at even howling; it had an incurable sore throat from day one.
And it didn't even have fangs.
If I weren't a twin, my father would have been certain that my mother had cheated with some low-class servant.
After my shift, whatever little respect I was given because of being an Alpha's descendant quickly faded.
Instead, even the servants looked at me with undisguised scorn. Often, they'd gossip about me right in my presence, and everything that spilt out of their mouths was like daggers through my gut.
But I learned to endure everything, even my own family's hatred. My mother reduced me to the level of a servant and assigned me a room even smaller than a servant's.
I was seen as a stain, a disgrace to the bloodline, to the pack. Whenever important events were held, I was not present. Instead, I would be in the backyard of the servants' quarters, doing laundry until I could no longer feel my limbs.
I had hoped that the Moon goddess, Scarlette, would at least grant me a mate that didn't belong to this pack, even if he was a human.
As luck would have it, I found my mate. And he was a human who went by the name Brody Paxton; he had somehow stumbled onto the pack's borders after getting lost.
I was happy, thinking my prayers were finally answered and pleaded with my father to let him out of prison because he was my mate. But my father demonstrated how much he despised my existence, forcing me to helplessly watch the poor soul being tortured until he gave up the ghost.
I went crazy and found an axe to chop down my father's statue in the pack's square. It was overt rebellion, and I was prepared for whatever his punishment would be.
However, three days went by with no reaction from him. The pack was abuzz with gossip about my actions.
Then, two days ago, he had the guards drag me from my tiny room and lock me up in a capacious and luxurious room with this cursed monitor attached to my leg. I didn't know what he had planned out for me, but I had a hunch that it wouldn't be anything good.
I heard the door of the room open, and only then did I turn around. Upon entering the room, I was met with the angry gaze of my mother.
"You ungrateful wretch!"
Cuss words. Typical of her. Nothing new.
"How dare you step out of the room for so long? Are you tired of living, Teagan?"
"Good evening, Luna. I meant no harm. I just wished to get some fresh air," I coldly responded to her without gazing at the floor the way I usually would.
After what Father did to my innocent mate, I was done bending to my family's will. I didn't care anymore; if they wanted my head right now, I would gladly hand it to them.
Also, I had lost faith in the goddess. If I had the chance to meet her, I would be sure to rip her bald.
"Fresh air, huh?" My mother nodded sagely, and the next thing I knew, she raised her hand and connected her right palm to my left cheek.
It hurt. And it stung as well. So much that I wanted to cry.
But I heaved and bit my trembling lower lip, determined not to let a single tear fall. No, she wouldn't get that satisfaction tonight.
At this moment, my twin entered the room, her hair in a single braid that made her look innocent.
"Sis, why did you act so childishly? Father did what needed to be done for the greater good of the pack. As an Alpha's daughter, why can't you see the big picture?" Allegra spoke to me with false concern, and yet her eyes showed she was internally gloating at my misery.
We'd never been close since we learned to walk, and with all the unfortunate things coming my way, we'd only grown further apart.
I scoffed at her words, "To hell with the damned big picture, Allegra. Brody was my mate. He didn't harm anyone; he didn't do anything wrong. Did he deserve to die?"
"Teagan, don't make me hit some sense into you." My mother spat. "Your father and I gave you life, and it's only right that we decide who you end up with, that is, if any sane noble would even want you outside of this pack."
"Mum," Allegra drawled, "...don't say that. Sister is so beautiful, even a stray dog would want her."
My mother sighed before speaking to me, "Even though you're trash with tainted blood, you're still your father's daughter."
"Oh, that's new. How come I never knew?" I scoffed at her ridiculous words.
Hearing my mocking response, my mother growled and wanted to hit me again, but Allegra held her back. "Mom, don't hit her, or she would be considered substandard produce."
"If it weren't for your use to us, you would have ended up like that foolish human." Mum seethed, her fingers balled into fists, "That Brody never deserved you."
"He did!" I retorted, "He was my mate and will forever be, even though he's no more,"
"You..." Mum was again about to raise her hand at me, and I was expecting more pain. But she unexpectedly let her hand drop and sighed, "Anyway, stay right in this room and don't step out again. Tomorrow is your big day."
With that, she turned to leave, but my twin stayed, still wearing that contrived look of worry.
"Oh, just save it, Allegra. Your look right now makes me feel squicked out," I outrightly apprised her with a glare.
"Aren't you curious about mum's words just now? Don't you want to know why tomorrow is your big day?" She asked whilst making air quotes.
I pointed towards the door, "Get out! Right now!"
She harrumphed with a snotty gaze before wheeling around to sashay out of the room. I angrily slammed the door shut, my chest heaving as I gazed at the queen-sized bed.
With my mother's words and my sister's reaction, I had a hunch that my father might have arranged for me to become someone's concubine.
And that was happening over my dead body.
With a determined look, I stalked out of the room into the balcony. Then, I climbed the balustrade, ignoring the sounds of alarm coming from the device around my ankle.
It didn’t take long for me to see my mother and Allegra rush into the spacious balcony with a frowning guard. I stood on the balustrade, my hair and satin gown fluttering with the wind.
“Sister…” Allegra gasped. I knew she was faking her concern once more, but I couldn’t be bothered with her.
"You wretch, what are you doing? Get down this instant!" My mother growled but didn’t move from her spot.
"You all will get what you deserve," I said spitefully and gave them two middle fingers before letting myself drop, arms spread sideways, letting myself relish the feeling of being in the air… for a few moments.
Then I braced myself for the inevitable pain and possibly… eternal darkness.
