The Return Of The Blind Luna
General POV
In the earthy land of Westmore pack, a kingdom of magic and powers, Werewolves and romance, where betrayal and infidelity crushed the most fragile, there lived the most unlucky woman to ever live.
Lianna Pyre, one of the twins of Beta Handock, had just been bound with the Alpha of Westmore pack. She was aware Vienna was his first love, therefore, the blind Luna felt the burden of the world on her shoulders. The stench of jealousy and spite wafted through the corridors of the palace, thick as the fog outside. Despite her disability, Lianna had a resolving spirit that could not be broken. She felt the warmth of the sun on her face, the gentle breeze in the outside world, and the beat of the hearts around her, though they were mostly cold and unkind. Her twin sister, Vienna, had always been the apple of everyone's eye. She had the power of sight, the ability to shift, and the grace that Lianna lacked. The bond between them, one that used to be unbreakable, had turned into a noose around Lianna's neck as she became the object of her sister's spite.
One fateful evening, as the sun kissed the horizon, painting the sky with a fiery array of colors, Vienna laughed cruelly, her voice echoing through the grand hall.
"Do you need help down the stairs, sister?" She asked before stepping closely behind Lianna.
She pushed Lianna down the stairs, a malicious grin plastered on her face. Lianna's heart raced, the only sound she heard was the rushing of her blood as she lay crumpled at the bottom. The thundering footsteps grew closer as Vienna descended the stairs, her steps light and calculated.
"Alpha Kearn!" Vienna's sweet, innocent voice called out. "Your Luna, she's gone mad! She pushed me!"
The crowd grew, gathering round as they murmured.
"How can she be so ungrateful to her own sister?"
"Poor Vienna. She abandoned her own life to take care of Lianna for the rest of her life, but this is how she is repaid!"
Lianna felt the rough grip of Kearn's hand in her hair as he yanked her to her feet. The pain shot through her skull like a bolt of lightning, but she didn't dare make a sound. She knew all too well the consequences of speaking up against the Alpha's word.
"Is this true, Luna?" Kearn's voice was a low growl, his breath hot against her face. "Did you attack your own sister?"
Lianna felt the tears sting her eyes, but she steeled herself. "No, my love," she said softly. "Vienna lied."
But Vienna's sob drowned her out, a dramatic performance worthy of the grand stage. "Oh, Alpha! She's hurt me! She's lost her mind. You need to do something!"
The room grew still, and Lianna's heart sank. She knew what was coming next. Kearn's hand tightened as he whispered in her ear, "Why should I believe you? I always knew you hated your sister." He threw her aside like a rag doll, her body hitting the cold, stone floor with a thud that echoed through the hall.
"Guards, take her to the dungeons," he barked, his voice a whip crack in the tense silence. "We'll deal with this treachery come morning."
The guards did as they were told, their rough hands dragging Lianna away as she called out for mercy that would never come. The dungeon was cold, unlike the warmth she thought she once felt as Alpha Kearn's mate. As the door slammed shut, she heard Vienna's laughter, haunting her in ways she could never forget. It was at that moment she realized she had to find a way to escape the fate that had been forced upon her.
She never wished to be bound with the Alpha. The moon goddess just thought to play this cruel game with her life. Just when she was finally falling into a deep sleep, the gate clanged open.
"You are such a deluded woman, Lianna. I wish you'd realize that sooner." Kearn's voice boomed across the tiny room, his heavy boots thudding.
Lianna doesn't know what the Alpha looked like, but the way he towered over her made her describe him as giant. His thundering voice and commanding tone made her think he was a god. He was way above her league in every way.
"I'm sorry, Alpha. But I didn't push off Vienna. I would never do that."
He crouched, grabbing her chin with force. "I don't care. Destiny forced you on me, Lianna, or I wouldn't even look your way twice." As his thumb grazed over her lower lips, he continued to say. "If you died, no one would miss a blind wolfless being like you. You're just useless for the pack. I wonder what joke the moon goddess was playing when she made you mine."
Each word was like a hot spear seared through her heart. Yet, she couldn't bring herself to cry. All she could do was swallow her pain. She had already made up her mind. She wouldn't give them a glimpse of her weakness anymore. She knew what to do already.
"Why won't you just reject me, Alpha?"
Kearn scoffed, standing back up so he could glare at the pathetic figure of his mate and Luna on the cold, bare floor.
"I'd rather enjoy the amusement that comes from watching you make a fool out of yourself. A useless member of the pack like you deserves to be tortured to death. You deserve a slow, painful death."
That snapped something in her. So much, that when she was finally released from the prison, she snuck out at midnight. She crawled down the pathways to the woods, while the pack members watched their half naked Luna, blind and starved, stumble into the dark.
Under the moon, the sky bloodied by the red color of what used to be silver, Lianna knelt on the leaves-covered ground.
"Oh, heavens! How I have suffered. Kearn wants to watch me suffer and for once, I feel like I can control what happens in my life." She removed a knife she managed to keep in her boot and slashed her wrist.
The sky cracked open, a bolt of lightning traveling across like a tiny lake in the middle of the grand canyon. With each drop of her blood on the pine needles, the moon turned even more red.
"Because of this, I curse you, Kearn." Thunder clapped. "I sever our bond right now. And I, Lianna Pyre, reject you, Alpha Kearn, as my mate..."
Something hot and sharp passed through her stomach, as if she had been stabbed. There was no escape. Rejecting the Alpha as a Luna came with consequences. Lianna's consequence simply had to be losing her life. As she breathed her last, hoping to wake up and find herself in a better place, sight regained and with a man that loved her, she realized Kearn was right. She was such a delusional woman.
