Getting married

FREYA's POV ———————

“You are getting married to him and that's final, you don't have a say in this. So start getting prepared as he will be coming in two days time.”, my father said sternly.

“I can’t get married to anyone now. I have goals and aspirations but you are making me get married against my wish.” I said, vehemently disagreeing.

“You will do as I say!”, he yelled at me.

All my life, my father had never yelled at me, him yelling took me by surprise and I was shaken for a moment.

I couldn't get married because I have a lot of ambitions and goals that I haven't achieved yet.

Getting married was the last thing on my mind and my father was hell-bent on creating an alliance with other stronger packs that he wouldn’t even listen to my excuses.

“It's for the growth of the pack, I thought you wanted the growth of the pack. If you really want to show your importance, then get married to him and make your father proud.”, he went on to say.

“Besides I'm even surprised he agreed to get married to a very stubborn lady like you. However the case may be, just know this marriage is in the best interest of the pack.” He said, and I snapped my head in surprise.

“Why would you say something like that, Father? I'm not even stubborn”, I argued, with a scowl on my face as I stared at him.

He looked at me smiling affectionately, the scowl on my face disappeared with a smile replacing it.

“Please, Freya, I know it is not the best of decisions to make for you but if you would do that, the pack will forever owe you”

“The pack needs more support from other pack's attacks. I have been threatened a lot and your marriage will give us a strong alliance.” He said, and I could see the worry lines scrawled across his face.

I couldn't stand seeing him worried, he has always showered me with love and I loved him more than any person.

“But why him? He is old and probably… ugly looking”, I screeched.

“Freya!”, my father cautioned.

“I’m sorry but I just can’t help it, I don’t know anything about this man in question so my assumptions would definitely take the lead”, I said.

“You don’t have to worry, you’re in safe hands. He is not old and ugly looking”, My father said, avoiding my eyes. I knew instantly that he had just lied.

“Father… “, I called him, softly making him look at me.

“Freya, the pack your mom and I struggled to build will crumble down if this alliance is not successful”, My father said, with a gloomy face.

I hated nothing more than to see my father sad especially for situations like this.

“I would do it if it would make you happy then I'm happy, just stop worrying.” I said, and his face lighted up creating a warm feeling in my heart.

“Thank you so much, Freya”, he embraced me and kissed my forehead.

I was in fact a daddy’s girl.

He grabbed my face gently and stared at me “you are just like your mother. She always looks out for others first before herself. I miss her so much.”. He looked sad, and he looked away.

“She's fine where she is, and I'm sure she's happy.” I said, holding his hands to soothe him.

“Sure, she is. She has a gorgeous daughter with the heart of gold”

“And a loving husband who is hell-bent on keeping her legacy”, I added.

“She is definitely proud of us”, my father said, tightening his grip on me.

On getting back to my room, I sat down thinking about what my father said. That's not how I planned my life and it was really painful to watch all my sacrifices down the drain because of a flimsy thing like marriage.

I couldn’t reject it because I knew everything my father went through in making the pack a better one.

“But I don't want to get married now, marriage is a blockage that would stop me from achieving all I have worked for." I said to myself.

I threw my pillow at the wall venting my annoyance on it. I finally stopped passing my anger on the pillow when an idea dropped in my mind.

I was not going to let this marriage stop me from achieving my goals and I was immediately motivated to go on.

My father has always been there for me, I couldn't break his heart just like that.

The only information I have gotten about the Alpha is that he is old and cannot walk well, no one has dared to tell me how he behaves so I can know how to adjust.

I sat down looking out of the window wondering how he would be like, I didn't even have any idea of how he looked. I have only been hearing about him, I have heard a lot of rumors about him and I wanted to know him and know if it's true.

But I don't believe in rumors until I see them myself. I was curious to know about him so everything wasn't bad at all. My curiosity would cover up for the arranged marriage.

From the rumors, I heard that Alpha Albert Lea is a womanizer and this made me hate him already because I couldn't stand a promiscuous man. I would have to make do with him because it would be helpful for my pack; it would make me very proud.

A knock on the door and I stood up throwing on a robe that was lying on the bed and fastening the rope on it.

I walked to the door with my sword in my hands clung to my chest, I have always been on an alert because we have been attacked by rogues for too long.

"Good morning, Your highness. Dinner is ready." Lydia said, bowing as I frowned my face.

"Okay, I will join you shortly." I said, and she nodded, leaving immediately. I closed the doors and walked towards my bathroom to wash my face.

Going down to the dining room, my father was already seated with my elder sister and her son, Dexter.

They had come visiting since her mate went to war, Dexter’s face lightened up when he saw me but I subconsciously gave him a cold look.

I sat down quietly unlike my usual bubbly self, my father looked at me without saying anything.

"Why are you this quiet, Freya? You are usually high spirited like my little boy." Alicia said, looking at me with a worried expression on her face.

"I'm fine... I'm just having a little bit of a headache so I will eat and go back to bed." I lied, smiling a bit to ease her worried expression.

"Okay if you say so."

After a moment of awkward silence, I finally decided to break it.

"Has father told you that I’m getting married in two days’ time?", I asked, hoping to hear her nod in the affirmative.

Her fork dropped from her hands as she stared at me in disbelief with her eyes popping out of her sockets like I have said the most shocking news.

I could tell from the look on her face that Father had not said anything to her yet. I glanced over at Father and he was digging into his food trying to avoid making eye contact with my sister.

"You are getting married? How come no one told me?" She asked, as she stared at my father and then at me.

“I just found out about it today”, I continued eating.

“Why?”,

“Table manners!”, My father slammed the table with his hands, he was definitely tired of Alicia’s endless questions.

“Grandpa, are you okay?”, Dexter said in a shaky tone.

“He is fine, just a bit not happy”, I said, softly.

I signaled one of the pack maids to take Dexter inside and she did accordingly.

"I'm getting married in the next two days’ to the Alpha of Blue moon pack." I said, as I bit the meat enjoying the burst of flavors in my mouth.

"Were you forced to get married to him?”

“I’m fine with it”

“When did you suddenly become cool with marriage when you literally hated it your whole life”, she said, sarcastically. “Do you even have what it takes to be a bride?”

"I don't hate marriage, I just don't want to get married now because I have planned a lot of things already. I will be upstairs in my room, have a nice dinner”, I dropped the cutlery and stood up.

“Freya!”, my sister yelled but I stormed out of the room angrily ignoring her calls.
