Three Months of Chaos With Mr Billionaire
Evie’s elbow brushed someone behind her and cold liquid splashed across a crisp black suit.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry—” she gasped, turning quickly with napkins in her hand.
The man didn’t move. He just looked at her with his cold grey eyes.
Before she could say another word, another man beside him snapped, “do you have any idea what you just did? That’s a ten-thousand-dollar suit for God’s sake! That wine’s not going to come out of it!”
“I said I’m sorry. I can p—”she apologized again but he barely allowed her to finish.
“Sorry doesn’t fix silk and velvet,” the assistant shot back, glaring at her wide eyed. “Some people just have no awareness—”
“Reid,” the man called quietly and the assistant froze mid-sentence.
Cole Junit didn’t raise his voice, he just looked at her. “It’s fine,” he said at last. “Accidents happen all the time.”
She nodded, feeling relieved and embarrassed at once. “Thank you. Really. I—”
A loud crash of glasses beside her cut her off before she could finish. The waiter had tripped, sending the tray of cocktails spilling right down her blouse.
The liquid was so cold it felt yucky against her skin. Gasps filled the air as she stood there drenched with her mouth gaped open.
Perfect. First the man’s suit, and now her blouse, of course this night was getting better.
“Evelyn?” Someone called before she could even snap at the waiter.
She froze at the sound of her name. She knew that voice, but she hoped she was wrong. She closed her eyes and curled her fingers against each other. “Please don’t be him, please don’t be him..” she muttered under her voice, but it was too late now, a hand grabbed her shoulder and turned her around till she was standing face to face with David.
He had his arm around Michelle, her best friend, scratch that— her ex best friend.
“Wow,” Michelle gasped, pretending to be shocked to see her. “Is this where you work now? A bar?”
David smirked as she spoke, “I can’t believe you went from jumping private jets to pouring drinks for people who are lesser than you used to be… Come on Evie, is this how desperate you are now?”
The words burned her. She swallowed as she felt every pair of eyes on her.
Her throat tightened as heat crawled up her face in embarrassment. The last thing she wanted was him winning, her pride couldn’t handle that. Not after everything he and Michelle had done to her.
Her eyes wandered around, and then she saw him again. Cole. He was still standing there, watching her in amusement. She knew he was probably just hanging around to watch what she would do.
Her pulse kicked and a flick lit up in her head, and without anymore further thinking, she crossed the space between them, grabbed his tie, and pulled him down to her lips.
The kiss was quick but every nerve in her body lit up. Cole’s breath caught for just a second, but he didn’t pull away, his hand grabbed her face and he deepened the kiss, slipping his tongue into her mouth.
“Mmmh,” a low moan escaped her mouth just before she broke the kiss. She turned to face her ex and Michelle, “Guys, meet my husband.”
“Husband?!” The assistant muttered low, his eyes widening.
David’s face paled. “You.. your husband?”
Michelle laughed, “you? Married? To him?” She raised a brow in disbelief.
Cole’s lips curved slowly into a smirk. He turned his gaze to Evie, leaning down until his breath brushed her ear.
“Husband, huh?” he murmured.
Her heart stuttered. “Please,” she whispered, barely moving her lips. “Just go along with it. I’ll explain later.”
He studied her, long enough for her to feel the weight of his hot stare. Then the corner of his mouth lifted, and in that moment she knew she had just summoned trouble into her life.
“Fine,” he whispered back. “But I have a condition.”
“Okay,” Evelyn murmured under her breath, her fingers still clutching his suit jacket. “Just… just go along with it, please…” she said between gritted teeth.
Cole’s smirk deepened. He leaned in, letting his lips grazing her ear as he whispered, “okay… wifey.”
Her stomach twisted. “Wifey?” she mouthed, but he only gave her that lazy, devastating smile that made her forget how to breathe.
Before she could respond, Michelle’s voice sliced through the air.
“Well, that was fast.” She looked between them, her painted lips curving into a scowl. “You got yourself a husband already? Or are you just desperately trying to make David and I jealous?”
David wrapped an arm around Michelle’s waist possessively. “Come on, Evie. You could’ve at least chosen someone believable.”
Laughter echoed from the nearby tables. Evelyn forced a smile. “At least I didn’t steal someone else’s leftovers to feel important!” She shot at Michelle.
Michelle’s eyes darkened. “Oh, please.” She rolled her eyes. “You were never a friend to me. You’re always acting like you’re better than everyone.” She glanced at Cole with mock pity. “I’m sure the poor man doesn’t even know what he’s gotten himself into.”
Cole’s hand tightened at the small of Evelyn’s back, his body went still. From their closeness, she could feel the heat of his body seeping into hers but not for long. He took a step forward, till his body was towering over both of them.
“Cole Junit,” Cole introduced himself. “Evelyn’s husband, I’m so glad to meet you.”
Before David could scoff, a voice called from across the room, “Mr. Junit!”
They all turned. The bar owner, Mr. Savon, was rushing forward, his face was bright with a wide smile.
“Sir, what an honor!” Savon beamed as he took Cole’s hand. “How’s the new deal coming along?” Savon asked, shaking Cole’s hand eagerly.
Cole’s lips curved. “Nothing much, just closing the deal,” he said easily. “Sixty-nine million dollars, nothing major.”
David’s smirk vanished and Michelle’s face lost its color at the mention of 69 million.
Savon practically bowed. “Of course, of course, you keep doing you as usual. If there’s anything you need, anything you need at all, don’t hesitate to let me know. Consider it my treat.”
“Oh you’re so kind Savon.” Cole smiled and Savon walked away.
Evelyn didn’t even have to look at David and Michelle. From where she was, she could feel the sting of their humiliation, and it tasted so good.
She straightened, sliding her arm around Cole’s waist with new confidence. “Thank you, sweetheart,” she purred, playing along.
Michelle choked on air. “Sweetheart?”
David tugged her arm sharply, feeling embarrassed. “Let’s go.”
“I hope you know she’s nothing but a gold digger, her dad just—“
David dragged her out before she food finish her statement.
Evelyn let out a shaky breath, turning back to Cole. “Okay, that was—wow. You didn’t have to go that far.”
He looked down at her with unreadable eyes. “You said to play along.”
“Well, yeah,” she said defensively, “but you didn’t have to drop a sixty-nine-million-dollar bomb in the middle of a bar.”
He tilted his head, studying her like she was some kind of puzzle he couldn’t resist solving. “So you’d rather I let them keep laughing at you?”
Her throat went dry and and swallowed. “No,” she whispered.
He nodded once, satisfied with her answer. “Good then, I’ll have my assistant contact you with what I want Miss Evelyn.”
He turned to Reid who was silent all these while. “Give her a—
But as he turned, she caught his sleeve. “Wait.”
He paused, glancing back at her with gleaming eyes.
“Who are you?” she asked. “Because that didn’t sound like a random story.”
For a moment, something flickered behind his eyes. He couldn’t tell her who he was, not right now, after all, she could be a gold digger just like the other girl had said.
“I own a consulting firm,” he rushed out. “Among other things.”
“Consulting?” she echoed, eyeing him skeptically. What sort of consultant closes 69 million dollars like it was nothing?
“Mostly with high-profile clients.” He quickly answered, giving a small shrug. “There’s a lot of top tier clients who prefer… discretion.”
“Right,” she said, folding her arms. “And you just happen to be here, alone, in a bar, wearing a ten-grand suit?”
His gaze dropped briefly to her lips, and when he looked back up, the air between them shifted, it was instantly thicker and hotter.
“Let’s just say,” he murmured, stepping closer to her, “I know how to make deals that benefit both sides.”
Her breath caught as he leaned in, close enough that she could feel the warmth of his body against hers.
“Speaking of which,” he continued, his voice barely above a whisper, “you still owe me something.”
Her pulse stuttered. “What do you want?”
He smiled faintly, brushing a strand of her hair from her face. “Nothing big… my assistant would let you know.” He turned to leave, then he turned his head briefly. “Tomorrow, we have a party by 7 p.m. I’ll send a car wifey.”
She blinked. “Wait, what? Why?”
He glanced over his shoulder with glinting eyes. “You wanted me to play your husband, didn’t you?” His lips curved into a smirk. “Now it’s time for you to find out what that really costs.”
