She felt stiff all over and turned to look at where the voice came from.
The voice came from the doorway of the living room.
Xiao Chengye was standing there with a serious and blue face.
Han Lu was also surprised by Xiao Chengye's stern look and voice. She then hurriedly got up from the armchair and asked, "Darling, why did you come back?"
Xiao Chengye didn't respond to Han Lu's nervous question.
He just fixed his daughter with a stare and asked, "What did you call him?"
Xiao You covered her mouth, her eyes trembling with panic.
"No, Dad. I didn't..."
Xiao You wanted to explain it.
But Xiao Chengye averted his eyes to observe Xiao Rong.
Xiao Rong's face turned red since Xiao You threw hot water in it, and his hair was disheveled as Xiao You tugged it when beating him.
As a whole, Xiao Rong looked disordered.
Xiao Chengye frowned and stopped observing him.
He turned to Xiao You, "Apologize to Xiao Rong."
Hearing this, Xiao You opened her mouth, "Dad, I..."
"Apologize!"
Xiao You didn’t dare to refuse, her lips compressed.
Then she turned around and apologized to Xiao Rong with unwillingness and anger, "I'm sorry."
After Xiao You apologized, Xiao Chengye said, "I think neither of you wants Xiao Rong staying here. He'll move to live in Jinshayuan."
Both Han Lu and Xiao You frowned upon his words.
It seemed that Han Lu disagreed with his idea and was about to dissuade him from doing so.
Then she said to Xiao Chengye, "Darling, there's no hurry. Let's talk about it after lunch."
"Ask someone to take him to Jinshayuan right now,"
Xiao Chengye couldn't wait any longer.
Unable to change her husband's mind immediately, Han Lu could do nothing but nod. She asked a servant to fetch a driver and take Xiao Rong to Jinshayuan.
Then, Xiao Chengye beckoned to Xiao You, "Come to my study."
Xiao You looked askance at Xiao Rong before she followed Xiao Chengye to the study.
The study was dim.
So Xiao Chengye turned on the light after entering it.
Xiao Chengye's face was lit.
Xiao You said, "Sorry, Dad. I didn't mean it. I'm just so frustrated recently. He humiliated the Xiao Family because of his relationship with the Song Family. And it was due to him that I've been set up by Meng Yunxi and was questioned by the police. At the thought of this, I'm beside myself with frustration and anger. That's why I hit him. I didn't mean it."
"Do you think that's what I'm concerned about?"
Xiao Chengye's words dumbfounded Xiao You.
Xiao You was not sure about what she just heard. She looked up at her father in a daze, "What did you say, Dad?"
"I don't care about whether you have hit him. I asked you to come with me because you have made other mistakes."
"Other mistakes?"
Xiao You thought about her father's words carefully, but still couldn't quite understand.
"Did I say anything wrong?"
"What you said to Xiao Rong was wrong. Don't you think so?"
"But..."
"Don't you want to admit your mistake?"
Xiao Chengye glared at Xiao You with a frown before she could retort.
Xiao You nodded and apologized to her father seeing his stern expression, "I know, Dad. I won't call him that way anymore."
"You'd better carry out your promise, or I'll never be at ease if I entrust the Xiao Family to a reckless person like you."
Hearing this, Xiao You was shocked and then pleased.
"Dad!"
"Behave yourself. I can only rely on you, my daughter."
"What about Xiao Rong then?" Xiao You was still concerned about his existence.
Xiao Chengye also frowned, "Then what do you want to do to him?
Xiao You was surely reluctant to keep Xiao Rong within the Xiao Family.
But she didn't want to send him to Jinshayuan, either.
So she suggested some wavering, "Dad, I think my brother should continue his study in the institute."
Xiao Chengye agreed, "Well. Then I'll send him back. He can't take care of himself anyway. At least there are teachers to care for him in the institute."
"Yes, Dad. This is good for him."
Xiao You and Xiao Chengye finished their conversation soon.
Meanwhile, Xiao Rong would be taken to Jinshayuan.
...
Song Shuang sent Gu Baisheng to the Institute of Special Education.
After she treated some kids who suffered abrasions when they were romping around, there were no more students in need of treatment.
When Chu Qin came to get some cold medicine, Gu Baisheng asked him, "Will the Xiao Family send Xiao Rong back to school?"
"Nobody knows. Xiao Rong didn't come back again after he was brought back home. Perhaps he would just drop out. After all, he has completed all his courses and finished writing his graduate paper."
Gu Baisheng was kind of amazed, "Has he finished writing his graduate paper?"
"Yes," Chu Qin sat opposite to Gu Baisheng and made a remark like he had read Xiao Rong's paper, "Though he's mute and lame, he is a fast learner and has some insightful views. It's a pity that he has been stuck here for so many years. He would probably lead a good life now if he had contact with the external world earlier."
Gu Baisheng also sighed, "Why doesn't the Xiao Family allow him to live outside the school?"
"Life in a rich family is an unknown world. It's a misfortune for Xiao Rong that he was born into the Xiao Family,"
Chu Qin forced a smile and continued, "A person like him would probably have a much better life if he were born into an ordinary family."
Gu Baisheng could understand what Chu Qin meant.
The Xiao Family had a complicated background.
Han Lu wasn't Xiao Rong's biological mother. His father married her after his mother's death.
And obviously, his stepmother wasn't nice to him.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have been held in the institute.
If Xiao Rong were born into an ordinary family, his elders would help bring him up after his mother passed away.
And his father wouldn't lock him up, either.
Moreover, a disabled silver-spoon kid would attract more attention than a disabled ordinary kid.
The former would cause more concern and be discussed more.
His family would regard him as a family skeleton and wouldn't let other people know about his existence.
However, an ordinary family wouldn't treat him like this.
Most parents in ordinary families wouldn't care about his physical disability as wealthy parents did.
Chu Qin and Gu Baisheng had a long conversation.
When it was almost lunchtime, Chu Qin invited Gu Baisheng to have lunch with him in the canteen.
Gu Baisheng agreed with a smile.
They also talked about something that happened recently on the way to the canteen.
What happened between her and Xiao Rong had been spread widely in school as people gossiped about it.
Though the Song Family removed all news related to her after they found out the truth, some people still knew about it.
But no one would mention it specially.
After Gu Baisheng and Chu Qin finished their lunch, Mr. Wang came to them.
Seeing her once interviewer approaching, Gu Baisheng stood up and acknowledged him, "Mr. Wang."
"Sit down, please," Mr. Wang became much more genial to her after knowing that she was the daughter-in-law of the Song Family. When he saw Chu Qin eating with her, he hesitated and then said, "Please come to my office after lunch. We need a discussion."
Taking a look at Mr. Wang's expression and Chu Qin sitting opposite to her, Gu Baisheng had a rough idea that Chu Qin shouldn't know about what would be discussed.
So she nodded, "I'll go after lunch."
Mr. Wang then left the canteen.
Chu Qin didn't ask anything despite that he was a little curious, he just said, "Maybe he wants to know about what performance you will give at the New Year party several days later."
"I'm a school doctor of the infirmary. Do I need to give a performance?"
Gu Baisheng thought that was funny rather than troublesome.
If she had to give a performance, she would prepare for it.
Chu Qin had some soup and said, "Every class should put on three shows. Our school had three school doctors before, and the infirmary was required to have one show. Two doctors performed a comic talk one year. It was interesting."
"So I need to perform a stand-up comedy since I'm the only doctor,"
Gu Baisheng found it amusing.
Chu Qin smiled, "I think it's a good idea if you can do it. Go for it, Dr. Bai!"
Gu Baisheng laughed because of his joke.
After lunch, Chu Qin went back to care for the children during lunch break.
And Gu Baisheng went to Mr. Wang's office.
Mr. Wang seemed somewhat restless.
He was pacing up and down in his office when Gu Baisheng opened the door.
At the sight of Gu Baisheng, he went back to his seat and asked Gu Baisheng to sit down.
Gu Baisheng hesitated a while due to Mr. Wang's serious look, then she asked, "What's the matter, Mr. Wang?"
"It's..."
Mr. Wang still felt embarrassed to say it.
Seeing his expression, Gu Baisheng smiled and said, "It's fine. Please get to the point."
Mr. Wang took a deep breath and said looking right into Gu Baisheng's eyes, "It's hard to say it, Ms. Bai. But I can't handle this by myself. That's why I have to talk to you."
"So what on earth is it?"
Hearing Mr. Wang's words, Gu Baisheng knew it wasn't something as easy as putting on a show.
As expected, Mr. Wang finally said, "The Ministry of Education just checked our teachers' Teacher Qualification License. They also checked the Doctor Qualification of our school doctor."
Gu Baisheng's heart sank
And knew what Mr. Wang was trying to tell her.
Not surprisingly, as soon as she could know it, Mr. Wang said, "Ms. Bai, I'm afraid that you can't work in our school anymore without a Doctor's License."
Gu Baisheng gasped and bit her lip.
She would be fired then.
"So, am I dismissed?"
She asked Mr. Wang as she didn't want to accept it.
Mr. Wang, however, was also unwilling to fire the doctor whom he employed with great difficulty.
He would on no account dismiss Gu Baisheng if there were no pressure.
He could only nod reluctantly and said with regret, "Our school will always welcome your return after you get a Doctor Qualification."
