Song Shuang didn't show any expression on his face.
However, other people suspected more because of his expression.
Although Jiang Shouyuan thumped the table and asked everyone to keep quiet, some people were still whispering to and winking at each other.
Many people had evil intentions.
Some outstanding doctors from other departments, who were Song Shuang's competitors, were waiting to see what would happen to Song Shuang.
Zhou Yiyi was candid. Some doctors seemingly got along well with Song Shuang but envied him behind his back, and now they looked mean. Seeing that, Zhou Yiyi snorted and lowered her voice, "It is Yang Jing who performed this operation. Song Shuang isn't responsible for that even if a collective punishment will be imposed. I don't know why they are waiting to see Dr. Song be punished."
Zhou Yiyi talked like she had no scruples.
The Head Nurse beside her heard her words. Then, she frowned and gave her a stare immediately, "Stop talking nonsense, Zhou."
Zhou Yiyi curled her lips, looked at Xu Xi, and nudged her, "Do you agree?"
Xu Xi shivered when she was nudged by Zhou Yiyi like she was frightened by something. She looked at Zhou Yiyi in terror, "What did you say?"
Seeing her frightened look, Zhou Yiyi frowned, "Did you see a ghost?"
Xu Xi didn't want to talk with her. She looked away, calmed herself down, and said impatiently, "Just focus on the meeting and stop touching me."
Zhou Yiyi curled her lips, "It's just a meeting. Why are you so distracted? Have you done something wrong?"
Xu Xi was irritated by Zhou Yiyi's words.
Her face grew grave and she spoke in a sharp voice, "What are you talking about? I didn't do anything!"
Her sharp voice surprised people around her.
Zhou Yiyi opened her mouth wide, looked at her, and said, "Are you crazy? Your voice is too loud."
Xu Xi realized that she was overacting when she saw other people looking at her. Then, she lowered her voice and warned Zhou Yiyi unfriendly, "Don't talk nonsense."
It was a little accident.
Jiang Shouyuan also looked at them.
He frowned and said at the thought of something, "Xu Xi, did you change the last infusion bottle for this patient?"
Xu Xi raised her eyes and stood up at once as she heard it, "Yes."
All people in the meeting room looked at Xu Xi.
Xu Xi looked around anxiously and immediately explained, "But I checked again and again. I'm sure that there was nothing wrong with the infusion bottle."
Xu Xi tried to distance herself from Ye's death.
Jiang Shouyuan nodded as he heard Xu Xi, "I know. But was the patient abnormal when you were changing the infusion bottle?"
Xu Xi shook her head instantly and answered, "No."
Jiang Shouyuan frowned, "Think about it carefully. Don't be hurried."
Then, Xu Xi bit her lips and recollected the situation when she was changing the infusion bottle with knitted brows.
After a while, she still shook her head and said, "There was nothing wrong. Everything on the instrument was normal, too. I made sure everything was alright before I left."
At this, Jiang Shouyuan said with a long sigh, "Sit down."
Hearing this, Xu Xi found that she had stood up as she was too nervous when asked.
She smoothed her hair around the ears and sat down again.
Then, Jiang Shouyuan looked at Yang Jing, who performed the surgery on Ye.
"Yang Jing?"
Yang Jing nodded and answered rather calmly when his name was called, "Yes, Mr. Jiang."
Jiang Shouyuan stared at him, "You're the operating doctor and took part in the patient's last surgery. What do you think?"
Yang Jing said, "The patient died of cardiogenic shock despite treatment. I'm not sure about the reason for his death now, so I'd like to wait for the result of the forensic identification."
His answer was rather objective.
Jiang Shouyuan agreed with him.
Thus, he said, "Then I'll tell forensic pathologist."
Yang Jing agreed.
Since only those who had contact with the patient before his death were asked at the meeting, people all believed that Song Shuang had nothing to do with it.
Actually, that was true.
Song Shuang had never participated in Ye's surgery or rescue treatment.
The only thing he did was find a person to help Yang Jing, who was almost unable to perform the surgery. Everyone who took part in that surgery knew it.
However, no one mentioned the operating doctor who took Yang Jing's place at the meeting.
It was a complicated matter.
If the result of the forensic identification showed that the patient's death had something to do with the surgery, the operating doctor, Yang Jing and other participants should be responsible for it.
Otherwise, there was no need to mention that female doctor or to bother her.
She helped Yang Jing to perform the surgery out of good intentions.
Thus, it was inappropriate to blame her before the cause of death was established.
At the meeting, Jiang Shouyuan asked every doctor and nurse who had contact with Ye, including Xu Xi, Yang Jing, and other people.
The meeting lasted for nearly two hours.
After the meeting, Zhou Yiyi wanted to go back with Xu Xi.
However, Xu Xi looked pale and walked away quickly as she saw Zhou Yiyi approaching.
Zhou Yiyi was annoyed by the way Xu Xi dodged her as if she were a ghost.
She could do nothing but complain to the Head Nurse about it, "Xu Xi is so sensitive. I didn't say anything to her just now. Why did she suddenly act like that? She was trying to bite me as if she were a cat and I stepped on her tail."
The Head Nurse consoled Zhou Yiyi, "She's the last one who took care of the patient. Now, the patient is dead, and she is more stressed than us. It's understandable that she is so nervous."
"Why is she so nervous? She isn't the cause of the patient's death." Zhou Yiyi said.
The Head Nurse shook her head and said, "Don't be a blabbermouth."
Nevertheless, Zhou Yiyi was not intended to stop talking.
Instead, she continued gossiping with the head nurse, "Can she work in such a mood? Perhaps we should ask her to take a rest, or other patients may get injured if she makes a mistake."
The head nurse gave Zhou Yiyi a stare as she heard this.
Song Shuang stopped for a while as he saw Zhou Yiyi and the head nurse leaving the meeting room.
Yang Jing stopped beside him and said, "Let's go for a coffee, Dr. Song."
Song Shuang nodded.
He knew Yang Jing had something to say.
Yang Jing and Song Shuang bought canned coffee at the downstairs shop. They pulled the ring pull and sat on the bench in the back garden of the hospital in silence.
"Are you under great pressure?"
Song Shuang asked Yang Jing suddenly.
Yang Jing didn't deny it, "I'm waiting for the result of the forensic identification. Ye's death will inevitably cause trouble."
Song Shuang also knew that.
In recent years, there were great tensions between doctors and patients.
If Ye died during the surgery, he died because he was seriously injured in a fire though all rescue measures were provided.
However, Ye survived and was moved into the intensive care unit. He could wake up in a few hours.
Then, he died.
It was unreasonable in everyone's eyes.
Yang Jing had a sip of coffee. As weariness replaced the faint smile in his eyes, he said, "I've never been the best one in so many years."
Yang Jing was a good doctor.
He had worked for about ten years in the hospital but couldn't compare with Song Shuang when it came to capability.
Also, he lagged far behind Gu Baisheng, who was dead.
He had been striving to improve himself for many years, but he didn't make much progress.
Others were also improving themselves as he was.
Therefore, generally speaking, he just didn't get worse and almost made no progress.
"No one can do his best." Song Shuang looked at him.
Yang Jing forced a smile, "I even need other people's help in this surgery. That wouldn't happen if you or Gu Baisheng were the operating doctor."
Yang Jing felt a little sorry for mentioning Gu Baisheng, "I didn't mean it." He was just inspired at the moment.
Song Shuang didn't blame him for that. Yang Jing said, "If Ye's death is caused by the surgery according to the result of the forensic identification, I..."
"That's impossible," Song Shuang interrupted Yang Jing and said with absolute trust in his eyes, "The doctor who helped you is as capable as me. She won't make any mistake in an operation."
Yang Jing was surprised by Song Shuang's trust in that female doctor.
He opened his mouth and asked in surprise, "Have you known her for a long time?"
Otherwise, how could he know her so well?
Song Shuang nodded, "Yes."
He paid attention to her since she went to the school of medicine and kept doing so until she died, so he was sure that she was capable.
Gu Baisheng hadn't made any mistake when operating. All surgeries she performed were perfect.
Thus, she wouldn't make any mistake this time, either.
Yang Jing knew that Song Shuang absolutely trusted her.
He nodded and said, "Since you trust her, I believe Ye's death is not caused by the surgery, too."
Song Shuang had never misjudged anyone.
If Song Shuang trusts that female doctor, Yang Jing would trust her, too.
...
The sunshine was warm and quiet in the garden of the hospital.
At the nurse station, Xu Xi was packed and left the hospital with an application for leave after telling the Head Nurse.
Seeing Xu Xi walking feebly down the hall, Zhou Yiyi said to the Head Nurse with knitted brows, "Ping, don't you see that? Xu Xi is really abnormal."
Lv Ping, the Head Nurse, was busy at looking her notebook. She said casually when she heard Zhou Yiyi, "It's understandable as this is the first time that she has met with such an accident."
"But she has been working here for five years." Zhou Yiyi said.
It was unreasonable that she looked such abnormal as she had witnessed people's death for five years.
