Chapter 261 First Time Meeting Song Zhaolu

Lin Fengya's words saved Song Zhaoyang's face and were not too harsh to Song Zhaolu.

Song Zhaolu looked down smilingly after hearing Lin Fengya's decision, saying, "OK. Let Yi stay."

Lin Fengya felt relieved.

It was much better to let Song Yi rather than his mother stay.

If Song Zhaolu stayed, she would definitely be up to something.

But if Song Yi stayed, no matter how strategic he was, he was no match for his aunt.

She would by no means allow her nephew to stir up any trouble.

On thinking about it, she looked at Song Zhaolu.

Song Zhaolu was not happy because she didn't manage to stay with her son in the Song Family as she expected.

But Song Zhaolu's unhappiness made Lin Fengya happy.

Lin Fengya smiled.

Song Zhaolu saw Lin Fengya's smile and pretended to look down unhappily while sipping the tea served by the maid.

But Lin Fengya didn't see Song Zhaolu's sneaky smile hidden by the teacup.

And Song Zhaolu's eyes were full of schemes and pride.

Lin Fengya really thought that she couldn't make trouble if she wasn't physically here.

What a joke!

Even if she was not here, she could turn the house upside down if her son could stay here temporarily.

In the doorway, the doorbell rang.

Song Zhaoyang suddenly remembered something and looked up at the door, "It must be Shuang."

Lin Fengya suddenly became excited when she heard Song Zhaoyang's words.

"Really?"

She asked the maid to open the door for Song Shuang.

Song Zhaolu hadn't seen Song Shuang before.

But when she heard how happy Lin Fengya sounded, she looked at the door thoughtfully.

Gu Baisheng was standing next to Song Shuang and waiting for the door to be opened.

When the door was open, Song Yi could see both of them walking in after he took a few steps closer.

Gu Baisheng was surprised when she saw Song Yi, so she couldn't help opening her mouth, "You..."

After uttering one word, she saw Song Zhaolu and Song Shuang's parents sitting in the living room, so she swallowed the rest of the sentence back.

She greeted Song Shuang's parents politely, "Happy new year, mother and father."

Lin Fengya and Song Zhaoyang didn't like their daughter-in-law.

But now Song Shuang took her home.

And Song Zhaolu was here.

They couldn't drive Gu Baisheng away.

Because she greeted them politely as soon as she walked in, Lin Fengya signaled the maid.

And the maid handed a red bag to Lin Fengya in a hurry.

Although Lin Fengya disliked Gu Baisheng, she had to pretend that she liked her in front of Song Zhaolu.

"It's the first year that you become our daughter-in-law. This red bag is from us. Come and sit here."

Gu Baisheng thought that she would face Lin Fengya's cold face after entering the house.

She didn't expect that Lin Fengya was so kind to her and even gave her a red bag.

She was really surprised.

But she still walked to her and took it.

"Thank you both!"

After Gu Baisheng took the red bag, she thanked Song Zhaoyang and Lin Fengya.

Song Yi saw his uncle and aunt's faces and couldn't help showing contempt in his eyes.

They didn't like their daughter-in-law.

But they acted as if they had liked her in front of other people.

What they did was quite impressive.

For newly married women in Beicheng, they were supposed to receive red bags from their in-laws in the first year as customary.

After Gu Baisheng accepted the red bag, Lin Fengya looked at Song Zhaolu while talking to Gu Baisheng, "This is your aunt, Shengsheng."

"Nice to meet you, aunt."

Gu Baisheng greeted Song Zhaolu.

She was very kind and polite.

Song Zhaolu smiled, "I should've bought you a present for your first year of marriage, but I went back in a rush and didn't have time to select presents. Please accept this."

While speaking, Song Zhaolu took the green jade bracelet off her left wrist.

Although Gu Baisheng had zero knowledge of jade, she knew that Song Zhaolu's bracelet cost a fortune.

She turned it off right away, "It's too expensive, aunt. I can't accept it."

Song Zhaolu held Gu Baisheng's hand and said to her gently, "Although I meet you for the first time, I really like you! It seems that we really get along with each other. I live in Beicheng now. Please come to visit me later!"

Song Zhaolu's good attitude towards Gu Baisheng made Song Zhaoyang and his wife surprised.

Song Yi was surprised at his mother's attitude, too.

He knew his mother the best.

When he had a girlfriend that was recognized by his mother, his mother wasn't so friendly to her.

Why was she so nice to Gu Baisheng on their first meeting?

And she even gave Gu Baisheng the jade bracelet that her mother left to her.

Didn't she say that she would give it to her future daughter-in-law?

Song Yi subconsciously had a bad feeling when he looked at his mother's smile.

But he couldn't explain his feeling.

What was Gu Baisheng's use to his mother?

How could his mother offer to give her the bracelet?

"I heard Fengya call you Shengsheng?"

Song Zhaolu held Gu Baisheng's hand and put the jade bracelet on Gu Baisheng's wrist.

It was such a coincidence.

The bracelet fit Gu Baisheng's wrist perfectly.

Gu Baisheng nodded, "My name is Bai Shengsheng."

Song Zhaolu nodded and looked at the jade bracelet on Gu Baisheng’s wrist kindly, "Please take good care of it. It's gifted by my mother, Shuang’s grandmother."

"It belonged to grandma?"

Gu Baisheng was surprised, "It's too valuable."

"It's a family heirloom. You're the perfect choice."

Song Zhaolu patted Gu Baisheng's hand.

Lin Fengya looked at the jade bracelet and suddenly felt annoyed.

She couldn't help frowning.

Song Zhaolu glanced at Lin Fengya's frowning face and had a smile in her eyes.

Still, anything that made Lin Fengya unhappy made Song Zhaolu happy, no matter it was a thing or a person.

...

Lots of people came to visit the Song Family on New Year's Day.

But after Song Zhaolu left, Lin Fengya and Song Zhaoyang asked Gu Baisheng to go upstairs because they didn't want to see her.

Gu Baisheng didn't like dealing with the visitors.

So, she was happier when they asked her to do so.

After all, she was like a puppet in a rich and powerful family when she was with them.

She could only smile at the visitors politely.

Except for some greeting words, she barely talked to them.

The visitors were either doing business with the Song Family or seeking Song Shuang and his family's help because of their medical skills.

Gu Baisheng didn't want to deal with this type of interaction.

After Gu Baisheng reached the second floor, Song Shuang talked with the visitors for a while, went upstairs, and joined her soon.

He pushed open the bedroom door.

He saw that Gu Baisheng was reading the books on the nightstand and desk.

Song Shuang closed the door and asked, "Are you looking through my books again?"

Gu Baisheng enjoyed doing so.

She would definitely look through all the books wherever she saw some, unless the condition didn't permit it.

Gu Baisheng took a hardcover novel and shook it, "Do you like this book too?"

The book in her hand was a work of martial arts fiction called "The City of Mirror".

It was about a lake where two exact same cities co-existed above and underneath the lake.

And two same women lived in the two cities.

One day, the woman who lived in the real world above the lake died.

So, the protagonist who also lived above the lake tried to break through the enchantment and went beneath the lake to take the same woman to his world.

That woman was the heroine.

And the protagonist tried to erase her former memories and make her believe that she belonged to his world.

Gu Baisheng read this book in middle school.

She liked it a lot.

She was impressed by the book after buying and reading it.

Later, she wanted to learn medicine because she wanted to know if there were two same people in this world.

Finally, she went to a medical school and became a doctor.

After she studied medicine, she felt it ridiculous every time she recalled the question inspired by the book.

How could there be two same people in this world?

It only happened in fiction.

Their thoughts, experiences, and memories were totally different.

Seeing her hold this book, Song Shuang took the book from her after walking to her.

"I bought it a long time ago and I haven't read it yet."

Song Shuang put the book back on the shelf while talking.

Gu Baisheng became excited when he said that he hadn't read it, "I read it before! Do you want to know the plot? The book is about..."

"No spoilers."

Song Shuang interrupted her and looked at her unhappily, "It's not a good thing to do."

Gu Baisheng smiled, "Why did you buy a book which you're not interested in?"

After putting the book back, he replied casually, "I just happened to see it."

"You bought it because you happened to see it. It means that you're interested in this book. Why don't you read it?"

Gu Baisheng was curious.

Song Shuang glanced at her when she kept asking, "You're like a child who is curious about everything."

Gu Baisheng smiled, "I feel that if you put a physical book on the shelf without reading it, it will scold you the next time you see it."

"Scold me?"

Song Shuang found it funny, "What for?"
