Chapter 63 The Real Expert

Li Mu looked at his wife and asked perplexingly, “You make me a little nervous. Why are you being so polite? Are you thinking of doing something bad again?”

“Then I am not telling you anymore!” Lin Wan said with a pout.

“Alright, alright. Tell me about it. I promise I will listen and discuss with you seriously.”

“That’s what you said. You can’t get angry or overthink after hearing it!”

“Okay!”

“The choir that I formed has entered the finals of the singing competition. I plan to use this time to go to school every day to tutor students and also accompany them to participate in the competition. You also know that this is the only opportunity in my teaching career, and I really don’t want to have any regrets!”

Li Mu readily nodded and replied in a serious manner, “I will support you. Just do what you want. I won’t hold you back. I will go and support you guys in the finals!”

Lin Wan gave her husband an affectionate kiss on the cheek and said, “Thank you, honey!”

“There is no need to thank me. By the way, honey, is my attitude right or not now?”

“What do you mean?”

“Should I be angry or not? Please give me a clear signal, just in case you use another young and handsome bastard to piss me off again later!”

“You don’t need to be angry. I am discussing something serious with you now!”

Lin Wan arrived at the music classroom at three o’clock sharp that afternoon.

As soon as she stepped into the classroom, the students immediately let out screams of joy and gathered around her to greet her.

Seeing this, Lin Wan got a little teary-eyed. Although some of the children nowadays were precocious, most of them still retained their innocence, so they often revealed their true feelings in their words and behaviors.

She had formed this choir from scratch, and through their daily interactions, she had already established a deep relationship with the students. How could they not be excited when they saw each other again at this moment?

Several female teachers from the music department watched them from the side, with jealousy and envy written all over their faces.

Ms. Fang was extremely delighted and exclaimed loudly, “Oh, Ms. Lin, you are finally back. I really can’t handle these kids anymore. It’s too torturous. I will return them to you now!”

Wang Shen was also at the scene. He walked over, extended his right hand to make a handshake, and said sincerely, “Ms. Lin, thanks for coming. I’ll leave the rest to you.”

Lin Wan shook his hand generously and expressed her thanks to him. After playing with the children for a while, she asked Ms. Fang, “Ms. Fang, have you decided what are you going to let them sing in the finals?”

Ms. Fang listed out more than a dozen of song titles at one go, and almost all of them were the most popular pop songs of the moment.

Lin Wan asked in surprise, “Can they practice so many songs?”

“Oh, to tell you frankly, their singing gets worse and worse. They can’t sing any of these songs well! I want them to practice all the songs so that we can choose the best one to participate in the competition.”

Lin Wan didn’t say anything and just smiled softly.

“Ms. Lin, since you are back, I’ll let you decide on this. This group of children was chosen by you. So, I think it’s better to let you decide what they will sing at the finals!”

A female teacher said cryptically, and then the others responded perfunctorily. Their attitudes were obviously insincere.

Lin Wan didn’t take it to heart as she had already expected this before she came back.

She was an old colleague who had already submitted her resignation. To some people, her return was completely unnecessary, and the reason she came back was to take the credit from them.

Lin Wan had been managing the choir since its formation. On usual days, there won’t be any traces of these music teachers at all.

Now that the choir had made it to the finals, all the teachers from the music department were here. There was definitely a hidden meaning behind Ms. Fang’s words. Both the children and these female teachers were difficult to handle.

Their cryptic remarks didn’t bother Lin Wan. As the head of the Lin Family, she had seen all kinds of people. Therefore, she had a good understanding of human nature.

To these women, Lin Wan was just a woman who would soon become their former colleague. As a result, they no longer bothered to put on a hypocritical pretense in front of her.

Lin Wan smiled gracefully and said in a calm tone, “Alright, since all of you trust me, here are my suggestions.”

Meeting the gazes of everyone, she continued without haste, “I think the children should sing their own songs. Although pop songs are nice to listen to, they may not be suitable for children to sing, especially in such a formal singing competition. Letting the children sing pop songs will make people feel nondescript and lack the sense of innocence.”

Lin Wan’s words immediately aroused the displeasure of some people. The teachers began to discuss among themselves, and all their conversations revealed their dissatisfaction with Lin Wan.

“I think what Lin Wan said makes sense. It seems a little inappropriate to let the children sing a pop song in an elementary school singing competition!”

The speaker was Zhou Li. Just like Lin Wan, she was also a contract staff. The two of them came to the school almost at the same time, and Lin Wan helped her a lot while working in the school.

To Zhou Li, Lin Wan’s resignation was very bad news, which made her feel that she had lost a strong backing.

It was not surprising that she felt this way. Lin Wan’s aura was very strong. With her around, no one dared to bully them. Without Lin Wan, she couldn’t even utter a word in the music department.

Since the beginning of choir rehearsal, Zhou Li had always been a spectator. No one took notice of what she had said, and no one cared about her opinions.

Therefore, Zhou Li didn’t bother to participate in it. She had quietly been a spectator until Lin Wan showed up. It was only then that she dared to express her opinions.

“Oh really? Since the songs we proposed are not suitable, then Ms. Lin, would you please tell us what the children should sing in the finals of the singing competition?”

Wang Shen had been listening with a smile on his face, without saying a word. He wanted to see how the eldest daughter of the Lin Family would react in such an awkward situation.

Lin Wan’s expression remained unchanged while she casually suggested a few song titles in a calm tone.

As soon as she finished her words, the teachers began to clamor again, making the scene looked like a wet market.

However, their thoughts had been clearly expressed. All of them felt that the songs she had suggested were too old and couldn’t keep up with the times.

Lin Wan gave a light cough, and the strange thing was that it had instantly quieted them down. Her strong aura had suppressed them.

“You all are wrong. There is no such thing as old or new in music, but rather whether they sound good or not. As long as the music sounds good, it will strike a chord with people and make them intoxicated.”

Speaking of this, Lin Wan smiled faintly, walked straight onto the podium, and raised her arms gracefully.

“My Old Memories of Pijing and Farewell. Lu Jiaxue will sing solo, and the rest will sing in harmony. Zhou Li, you will play the piano!”

“Okay!” Zhou Li happily agreed as she walked to the piano and sat down.

Accompanied by the melody of the piano, Lu Jiaxue’s crisp and clear voice sounded.

“Outside the pavilion and along the ancient road, the green grass seems to join the sky. The evening breeze sways the dripping willows, whilst the descending sun sets beyond the mountains. Half of my friends are scattered to every corner of the world. With a goblet of distilled wine, let’s enjoy what remains.”

With the end of the performance, the music classroom fell into complete silence. All those teachers had stopped saying a word.

Wang Shen applauded vigorously. He was not trying to please Lin Wan, but he really acknowledged this song and the student’s performance from the bottom of his heart.

With the vice-principal taking the lead, the rest of the teachers also applauded awkwardly.

Different people produced different results. Guided by them, the choir was disorderly and lacked teamwork.

However, guided by Lin Wan, the potential and teamwork of the choir had been fully unleashed. It was as if they had been two different groups of people.

The difference was clearly evident, and no one mentioned pop songs again. They were all adults, so they would somewhat know what they should do and not give others another chance to embarrass them.

The children were also very happy. During Lin Wan’s absence, these aunties’ reprimands had hurt their self-esteem. After Lin Wan took over, they had immediately regained their confidence.

“Mommy Lin is the best!”

Lu Jiaxue called out loudly. Her voice was the crispest, and her shout echoed through the classroom. With her taking the lead, many other students also began to call Lin Wan “Mommy Lin”.

Lin Wan blushed, feeling a little sorry for her goddaughter.

Since the last time. Lin Wan had never given Lu Jiaxue one-on-one tutoring. She was no longer her home tutor.

The following rehearsals went on smoothly. Lin Wan randomly picked a few songs that they had practiced in the past and asked the students to sing them one by one. The results were naturally very satisfying.

Many people even thought that they would not have any more problems. They could just choose two songs from them to participate in the competition and didn’t need to rehearse every day.

However, Wang Shen disagreed as he wanted to strive for perfection. Although children sang very well, they must not be arrogant and should continue to rehearse hard.

However, only he himself knew what he was truly thinking about.

After the rehearsal, all the students were picked up by their parents. Wang Shen said to everyone, “Today’s rehearsal is very successful. I will treat everyone to a meal and then to the KTV. Let’s enjoy ourselves tonight.”

Upon hearing that, the group of female teachers cheered joyfully. A charming and generous man like Mr. Wang was now the favorite of most of them. This was also the reason why he received an enthusiastic response when he said he would treat everyone to a meal and the KTV.

Especially Zhou Li, who responded most enthusiastically. Wu Heping died young, and all her sacrifices went in vain. She could only pin her hopes on this handsome vice-principal to help her secure a permanent position in the school in the future.

What was more, the former was a forced sacrifice, and the latter was a voluntary sacrifice. If she could hook up with him, not only could she achieve her goal, but she could also give him her body willingly.

However, Lin Wan refused without hesitation. There was no special reason. She just felt it meaningless to mix and mingle with these people.

Wang Shen tried hard to persuade her to join them. Everyone also echoed the vice-principal in unison and enthusiastically invited Lin Wan to join their get-together.

Several people even mentioned that the previous farewell dinner was unsuccessful because the main lead didn’t show up. Therefore, they could make use of this opportunity today to throw her a farewell dinner.

Whether it was real or fake, it was hard to reject everyone’s kindness. In the end, Lin Wan had no choice but to nod her head and agree.

Then, Lin Wan called her husband and informed him about the dinner gathering tonight. Li Mu didn’t say anything. He only asked her to come back earlier and not to drink too much.

Lin Wan responded with a smile, “I’m preparing my body for pregnancy, so I won’t drink at all. Don’t worry. I’ll only drink plain water.”
