He Xiaoyu and Li Mu got out from their hiding place behind the tree. At a fast pace, they rushed towards the office building one after the other.

What they didn’t know was that the moment when Lin Wan left the wooden house, the back window was pushed open quietly by someone else. A figure was seen to leave the wooden house and headed towards the office building, covered by the shadows of the woods and the darkness of the night.

The figure who was silently tailing them was none other than Mrs. Hong. She tailed Lin Wan unhurriedly with the intention to provide immediate assistance when necessary.

Relaxed, Mrs. Hong wasn’t worried about Lin Wan’s safety at all because she trusted Lin Wan’s competencies. These trashy men wouldn’t even stand a chance as long as Lin Wan didn’t give them any chances.

After taking a few steps, Mrs. Hong stopped in her tracks vigilantly and hid in the shadows.

There were some people else, who were acting all sneaky and seemed up to no good.

Mrs. Hong sneered and prepared herself to strike. When she saw who they were, she couldn’t help but cry out sorrowfully.

The two figures who were tiptoeing around turned out to be Li Mu and that troublesome woman! Mrs. Hong muttered to herself, “Oh no, how is Lin Wan going to explain herself this time? Alas, Lin Wan shouldn’t have met him. It was really unnecessary!”

Li Mu and He Xiaoyu did not notice Mrs. Hong at all, as they were so focused on tailing Lin Wan. They had no idea that the hidden Mrs. Hong had noticed each and single move they made.

Their attention was all on the office building while they made their way carefully and gingerly to the front door.

Inside the room, Lin Wan crossed her arms and stood coldly opposite Fang Qiang.

“Go on. What’s the matter?”

Fang Qiang said cheekily, “Lin Wan, thank you. You’re not only very beautiful but also very kind-hearted. I didn’t expect that you would still agree to meet me after what’s happened. I must’ve saved the universe in my past life to be able to meet you.”

“Did you ask to meet me just to tell me these?”

“Lin Wan, it’s not like that. I called you out because I wanted to apologize to you formally. Although Li Mu is disloyal to you, I shouldn’t have tried to take advantage of the situation and tried to hit on you. I’m really sorry for that.”

With an unchanged expression, Lin Wan said calmly, “I’m glad you feel that way. You are both Li Mu’s and my friend, and both of us cherish this friendship a lot. I truly hope that you’ll take this friendship seriously.”

“I will definitely turn into a new leaf. Lin Wan, to be honest with you, we’re actually in the same boat. Xinzhu, she, she is cheating on me. I was so sad that I wanted to take my life. And when I see how Li Mu take you for granted, that triggered my feelings for you because we could both relate to each other. Lin Wan, can you forgive me?”

At this point, Fang Qiang who looked very distressed sat down on a chair and clasped his head with both of his hands.

“Did you misunderstand Du Xinzhu? She doesn’t seem to be someone who’d act like that?”

“I have proof, and she admitted it herself as well. I loved her dearly so I chose to forgive her, but in my heart, I felt depressed. It was as if someone had stabbed my heart and left a scar that could never be healed. Lin Wan, I’m devastated.”

Fang Qiang sobbed and wailed. It was hard for Lin Wan to imagine that a grown-up man like him could cry so hard until she saw it happen in front of her.

Lin Wan contemplated whether to step forward and comfort him, but the rationale in her knew that she should keep a distance from him. However, when she saw him crying in such agony, she felt bad for not doing anything to help him feel better.

“Fang Qiang, don’t be too sad over this. Since you have made up your mind to forgive her, you must force yourself to let go and forget what has happened. You can’t possibly drown yourself in pain and misery all the time. If you really can’t forget what happened, it’ll be better to let go. Otherwise, it’ll be torture for both of you. You are still young and should learn to look ahead.”

“Lin Wan, this is so unfair. We both share the same experience. How is it fair that we pour our hearts and souls in return for our partner’s infidelity? Just this evening, Li Mu went moongazing with that woman at the lake. Is this what a husband should do? Shouldn’t he show his side of romance to you alone?”

Lin Wan was taken aback and asked in a sullen tone, “What are you talking about? They went moongazing together at the lake?”

“Yes, I saw them meeting up and going to the lake together with my own eyes. How could I possibly lie to you about something like that?”

Lin Wan was so angry that her whole body shivered. Fang Qiang took the opportunity to lean closer to her with the intention to hold her in his arms.

“Stay there!” Lin Wan said coldly. “Know your place. I will not repeat myself again. Don’t force me to show no mercy on you!”

Resentful, Fang Qiang stood still and held his hands up awkwardly. He didn’t know whether to put them down or keep holding them up.

Just then, Lin Wan’s mobile phone rang. It was a call from Mrs. Hong.

“Mrs. Hong!”

“Leave now. Li Mu entered the office building.”

Lin Wan almost fainted from shock and immediately realized that it was a trap. Her husband going moongazing at the riverside was most likely a camouflage that he set up on purpose to catch her in an affair.

It was a sticky situation, as she must never let her husband see her in the same room with Fang Qiang. It would be difficult to defend herself and she would never be able to explain why they were both alone in the same room.

Lin Wan walked towards the window and pushed it open. She glanced down, turned to Fang Qiang, and instructed, “I’ll leave now. My husband is here. Don’t say I’ve been here!”

With that, she leaped out of the window and landed lightly on the ground.

Shocked, Fang Qiang rushed to the window and found that she was long gone.

Leaving Fang Qiang to deal with Li Mu’s questioning, Lin Wan hurriedly returned to the wooden house after meeting up with Mrs. Hong. They did not dare to enter through the front door and chose to sneak into the house from the window. Only then did Lin Wan heave a huge sigh of relief.

Mrs. Hong couldn’t help but nag, “You just won’t listen to me, will you? You’re so stubborn and insist on carrying on with what I went against. Did this meetup do you any good? This is obviously a trap set by Li Mu. He deliberately created the opportunity for both of you to be alone, yet you still fell into the trap! Alas, I don’t know what else to say to you anymore!”

Annoyed, Lin Wan sat on the edge of the bed and clutched the bedsheets with her hands without a word.

About half an hour later, Li Mu walked in with a sullen face followed by the gloating He Xiaoyu. It was obvious that things did not turn out well between Li Mu and Fang Qiang, and Li Mu was convinced that his wife was cheating on him.

“Did you go to see Fang Qiang?” Li Mu asked directly.

“Yes!” Lin Wan replied without hesitation.

“Did the two of you have a romantic rendezvous in the woods and in the hot spring club too?”

“We were alone, but it wasn’t a rendezvous!”

Li Mu’s chest heaved violently while he clenched his fists tightly. After a period of silence, he turned to He Xiaoyu and said, “Xiaoyu, pack your things. Let’s go home!”

Lin Wan rushed straight over and wrapped her arms around him, “Honey, listen to me first.”

Li Mu tried his best to shake her off, but no matter how hard he tried, she was still clinging to him. She was like an octopus that wrapped herself tightly against him with endless force. He couldn’t even budge a tiny bit.

Seeing his embarrassment, Mrs. Hong let out a laugh and said to He Xiaoyu, “Lass, let’s leave them alone, and let them have a good chat. On behalf of Lin Wan, I promise you, if he refuses to forgive her, you can take him away from her. We’ll not stop you at all.”

He Xiaoyu pondered for a while and said cheerfully, “Okay, but you have to keep your word. Promise me you won’t take back what you said afterward.”

“Okay, I promise you!” Lin Wan interrupted impatiently.

After He Xiaoyu and Mrs. Hong walked out of the wooden house one after another, Lin Wan let go and said in tears, “Honey, don’t be angry. Listen to my explanation first. If you still think I’m a sl*t after this, I’ll leave you without a word and will never beg for your forgiveness. Just be patient with me for a while, okay?”

Li Mu sat down on the table, “Go ahead, I’m all ears.”

Lin Wan sat down beside him. She took out her phone and played a recording without saying anything.

“F***!” Li Mu jumped up and was about to rush out of the cabin!

Lin Wan dragged him and wrapped herself around him like an octopus, making him unmovable once again.

“Let go!” Li Mu roared.

“Do you know why I was hiding the truth from you all this while? I’m worried that you’ll act impulsively. He’s your best friend and I know you’ll never forgive him. I’m not worried for him, but instead, I’m worried for you! I’m afraid you’ll make a big mistake out of your act of impulse!”

“What kind of friend is he? My best friend wanted to molest my wife! I don’t want to have a friend like him, he’s a total b*st*rd! Let go of me, I must settle the score with that b*st*rd!”

“Honey, forget it. After all, I didn’t suffer any losses, and he didn’t get his way. You could easily get into a fight with him if you try to sort things out with him right now. And whether you win or lose, it isn’t worth the loss. Listen to me, stay out of his way, and let’s just take it as us being unlucky. We’ll avoid him from now on.”

“Then why did you agree to meet with him again tonight?” Li Mu asked grumpily.

Lin Wan sighed, picked up her phone, and played another recording. At the end of the recording, she said to Li Mu, “If he keeps pestering me, sooner or later it would affect our relationship for sure. I went to see him tonight because I wanted to end this once and for all so that he would think no more of me.”

“Nonsense, what good can you do? Isn’t it very risky for you to do so?”

“Mrs. Hong was with me, so I was certain that I won’t be in any danger. Look!” Lin Wan showed him a call log, “When you went to the office building with He Xiaoyu, Mrs. Hong was nearby to make sure I was safe. She was also the one who found out about your presence and tipped me off.”

“Why didn’t I spot you in the building? Where were you hiding?”

“I jumped out of the window, and mind you, I was on the second floor! By the way, honey, I’m pretty slick. If He Xiaoyu ever fought with me, I would beat her up in a trance!”

“Don’t change the topic. Let me ask you. Why did you escape?”

Lin Wan said aggrievedly, “I’m doing it for the sake of you. I was worried that you’ll be in a fit of rage and attack him without considering the consequences after you see us in the same room together. Honey, we’re living in a society where the rule of law prevails, not a society where men are always right. If you’re involved in a lawsuit just because of this, what on earth should I do?”

“Well, I can’t let him go just like that!” Li Mu said with hatred.

“The best way is to cut ties with him and to never associate ourselves with him again. He’s just a scumbag who will do anything to get what he wants. He doesn’t deserve to be our friend.”

“So, you didn’t believe a single word he said?”

“To be honest, I almost believed him at first. But after listening to the recording again, I don’t believe a single word he said now. He was lying to me just to gain my sympathy and in turn, take advantage of me.”

“D*mn, this son of a b*tch, I regret to treat him as a friend all this while. Well, who knows he would reciprocate my trust to him with such inappropriate thoughts to my wife? Id*ot!”
