Lin Wan nestled in her husband’s arms and said softly, “As the saying goes, cats hide their claws. Who would’ve thought that he was someone like that? Let’s just take it as us being unlucky to meet someone like him and ignore him from now on.”

“And you!” Li Mu couldn’t help but nag, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier that you got yourself into such a mess? Don’t you forget that I am your husband, and I have the obligation to protect you?”

Lin Wan gave her husband a kiss on the cheek and said tenderly, “You’re my husband, and I know you more than anyone else. You tend to be impulsive when things go wrong, and you act without considering the consequences. Since Fang Qiang wanted to act inappropriately towards me, you are his biggest obstacle for sure. Hence, he’ll never let things slide that easily if you attack him.”

“Alas, I get it, but you can’t always act like this. I know you meant well, but you can’t just do everything with your own judgments and dismiss my feelings. I’m your husband, not your son. Even if I were your son, I would have my own thoughts and feelings.”

“Cut the nonsense. My mother-in-law is still well and alive!” Lin Wan reprimanded.

“What do you mean by that? Do you want to take over my mother’s role when she passes away?”

“I told you not to talk nonsense, yet you’re still full of it! Nevertheless, you’d better listen to me this time. You are not allowed to take revenge on him. Chapter closed!”

“D*mn it. I hate to let him off this lightly!” Li Mu said in frustration. It was as if his heart had been harboring an unbearable flame.

Fang Qiang was his childhood friend and his best friend for many years. He had never expected that his closest friend would intend to molest his wife. It was as if he had been stabbed hard in the back by the person he trusted most.

This pain was different from that caused by other people. This pain came with bitterness and devastation. Li Mu was using anger to cover up his sadness and to hide the unbearable feelings of shame.

“Honey, forget it. Listen to me. Don’t settle the score with him. We’ll leave first thing in the morning and never associate ourselves with him again! With a long sigh, Li Mu held his wife tightly in his arms and said softly, “I’m sorry, honey. It’s my fault for not protecting you, and I shouldn’t have made wrong assumptions about you. Please forgive me, okay?”

“No, I’ve explained my side of the story. Now it’s time to talk about yours. If you can’t explain yourself, I’ll never let you touch me again.”

Her reply made Li Mu freeze. Wait, this wasn’t right. Shouldn’t his wife forgive him in such an emotional scene? That is how the plot should go on, right?

“What’s the matter with me?”

“Let me ask you. Did you go to the lake with He Xiaoyu?”

“What?” Lin Wan immediately transformed into a beast and grabbed ahold of her husband. She was ready to strike anytime.

Dodging, Li Mu responded aggrievedly, “Why are you hitting me? Didn’t you go too? I even took many photos!”

Photos? Lin Wan stopped and asked her husband, “Are you talking about going to the lake during the day when we all went together?”

“Yeah, weren’t you talking about that trip? That’s the only one! What’s wrong with you? Are you insane?”

“Did the two of you go out alone at night?”

“What do you think?”

Embarrassed, Lin Wan said coyly, “I know you didn’t go, and I just wanted to make sure!”

“If you wanted to make sure, can’t you ask properly? Why did you hit me?”

“Well, you were the one who was always suspecting me of cheating on you. Aren’t I allowed to vent out some of the stress and negative emotions you’ve caused me?”

Oh, so she was looking for a place to vent out her feelings. Li Mu immediately had an idea and whispered into Lin Wan’s ear. The latter said shyly, “No, this shabby wooden house is not soundproof. How embarrassing it will be if people hear us!”

“Who cares? It’ll be even better if that b*st*rd hears it. Honey, moan as loud as you can, and piss off that id*ot!”

Lin Wan’s thought for a while and agreed immediately, “Alright, let’s piss off that horny id*ot!”

A rumble could be heard just when the two of them were about to make their next move. The wooden house shook violently as if an earthquake had occurred.

Immediately afterward, the loud roar of a motor could be heard, accompanied by an ear-piercing sound due to friction.

The both of them took a closer look and found two huge metal forked heads stabbed right on the surface of a bed, which happened to be Lin Wan’s bed. If they had gone to bed just a second earlier, they would have most possibly lost their lives. Lin Wan reacted extremely quickly and dragged Li Mu straight out of the wooden house immediately. Behind her, the forklift struck again for two more times, and with a crash, the wooden house collapsed.

Immediately afterward, a man jumped off the forklift and ran quickly towards the woods. Within a short time, a motorbike scurried out from behind a large tree and fled down the road into the distance.

With a creak, a vehicle pulled up beside Lin Wan and Mrs. Hong shouted, “Lin Wan, get in!”

Lin Wan leaped onto the vehicle and shouted to Li Mu, “Honey, go wait for me in the office building. Don’t go too far away.”

With a roar, the vehicle raced out and chased towards the direction of the fleeing motorcycle.

At this moment, He Xiaoyu also ran towards Li Mu and hugged him while shouting profusely.

Shuddering, Li Mu patted her shoulder and said, “I’m fine. I’m not hurt either. I was just taken aback.”

“Li Mu, was that the lunatic?” He Xiaoyu asked.

“Who else could it be if not him? Seems like that bow of yours didn’t hurt him. He’s still in good spirits and has the energy to come and take revenge on us.”

Rubbing her chest, He Xiaoyu kept exclaiming how lucky they were.

Li Mu also agreed that Lady Luck was indeed on their side this time.

If it wasn’t for these unexpected occurrences that happened tonight, the four of them would have been in the wooden house. In that case, even if they hadn’t been killed, they’d probably get severely injured.

“Brother Mu, what happened？”

The noise was so loud that it startled all the other guests in the remaining wooden houses. Du Xinzhu who was one of them that ran out to check the commotion rushed over to ask about the situation.

Li Mu looked behind her yet did not see Fang Qiang. He could not resist but ask, “Where is your husband?”

“He left some time ago. Apparently, there was an urgent matter that he needed to attend to in his office, so he left before he could bid goodbye. He asked me to see you off on his behalf tomorrow.” Du Xinzhu replied naturally, obviously unaware of what had happened.

It seemed like Fang Qiang guessed that his wrongdoings were exposed and was afraid that Li Mu would come after him. At the same time, he probably didn’t know how to face Li Mu after what he did, so he found an excuse to leave before things got awkward.

It was very simple actually. If Li Mu was unaware of this matter, Lin Wan might still help him to keep it as a secret for old times’ sake.

On the contrary, Lin Wan would definitely expose his acts to protect her marriage. She’d never lie for the sake of him.

Li Mu sighed to himself. That was probably the best way to end things, as he didn’t know how to face Fang Qiang anymore. By cutting ties, they could both forget each other and never meet again.

“Brother Mu, what happened? Why did the wooden house collapse?” Du Xinzhu continued to ask.

“Do you see that forklift? It was that lunatic striking once again!” Li Mu lowered his voice. He did not want his conversation to be overheard by the other guests and cause unnecessary panic.

“Ahh!” Du Xinzhu exclaimed and covered her mouth with her hand.

Li Mu shook his head with a bitter smile, and he could understand why Du Xinzhu shrieked. This lunatic was insane with his countless attempts to kill them! Including this time, it was already the third time he had tried to take their lives. And most importantly, they weren’t sure how they’ve offended him.

“Du Xinzhu, is it alright if I’d like to spend a night in the office building?”

“Sure, sure. The staff dormitory is currently empty. You guys can go ahead and take some of the rooms there. The office building is definitely safer than your wooden house for now.” After pondering for a while, she went on, “Wait for a second, I’ll go along with you!”

The few of them went to get their luggage which was placed near the table respectively. Fortunately, this area suffered the least damage so their belongings weren’t damaged severely.

Li Mu and He Xiaoyu got their luggage out from the rubble together and headed towards the office building after meeting up with Du Xinzhu.

After entering the office building, Du Xinzhu locked the door tightly immediately. She started making phone calls, presumably to the security department and her husband. She asked them to rush to the scene to deal with the accident immediately.

It was unclear what Fang Qiang said on the phone, but what he said struck an argument between him and Du Xinzhu. Li Mu did not want to poke his nose into their family affairs and took He Xiaoyu to the staff dormitory on the second floor.

After some time, Du Xinzhu came into the building and said to Li Mu, “Brother Mu, could you come out for a while? I have something to tell you.”

Before leaving the room alone, Li Mu told He Xiaoyu not to worry about him and get some rest.

With Du Xinzhu leading the way, the two of them walked to the end of the corridor. Du Xinzhu stood still and turned to look at Li Mu. “Brother Mu, what’s going on between you and Fang Qiang? There’s something wrong between you. Did the two of you had an argument?”

“Nothing’s wrong between the two of us. Don’t make any wild guesses!”

Du Xinzhu went silent for a moment and asked, “Is it because of Lin Wan?”

Well, it was undeniable that women were much more meticulous than men and were better at noticing even the slightest change in other people’s emotions.

What made Du Xinzhu suspicious was how her husband acted after knowing about the incident. He did not care about his best friend’s wellbeing and sounded very impatient. Hence, she immediately guessed that something wasn’t right between the two of them.

They were very close friends and always had a good relationship. They shared the same values and viewpoints and had no financial disputes. Hence, what could possibly be the reason for their conflict? The answer was pretty obvious by now.

Li Mu didn’t say a word. He didn’t want to cover up for Fang Qiang after what he did. That b*st*rd wanted to molest his wife! As generous as he was, he could never just shrug it off. He also couldn’t care less if Fang Qiang’s marriage would be affected if Du Xinzhu knew about it.

There were many kinds of hatred. Some hatred could be put aside, while some hatred stayed lifelong. Since ancient times, if a friend killed another’s father or had an affair with another’s wife, they could never be friends again.

Du Xinzhu sighed. She already knew the answer although Li Mu did not say anything.

“You walked in on them having an affair?”

Li Mu snorted in disdain, “An affair? Bah, he could dream on! Lin Wan is not that kind of person. He wanted to but Lin Wan did not agree and warned him sternly. I assume he doesn’t know how to face me anymore, so he’s not showing up on purpose.”

Du Xinzhu nodded and laughed bitterly, “I’m not sure when did he start having inappropriate thoughts about Lin Wan, but he hasn’t been behaving like before for some time now. He doesn’t really care about me anymore, not to mention sleeping together.”

“He’s acting so arrogantly because of the advancement in his career. This boost of confidence made him shift from his inappropriate thoughts to making a move.” Li Mu sighed.

“Yeah, Brother Mu, I think you have a point. That should be the reason. He is now considered a successful person who is rich and powerful. He doesn’t really take anyone seriously nowadays and has been acting very arrogant.”
