Lu Fangliang did not know Zhou Zijian as they had never crossed paths before. But the two men who were once strangers became good friends because of Lin Wan.
The first meeting between the two was a difficult one. Being the chairman of Lu Group, although Lu Fangliang was not a prominent figure, he wasn’t someone who could be easily met by just anyone.
Zhou Zijian was aware of their difference in status, and he would probably be given the cold shoulder if he paid Lu Fangliang a visit. The only way to meet Lu Fangliang was to use Lin Wan’s name.
After some prepping, Zhou Zijian made a call to the Lu House.
When Madam Jiang picked up the phone, Zhou Zijian said politely, “Greetings, I would like to speak to Mr. Lu.”
“May I know who’s speaking?”
“My name is Zhou Zijian, and I'm the planning supervisor of Dream Wedding Company. I would like to talk to Mr. Lu about Miss Lin Wan!”
“Oh, alright. Please wait a moment, I'll inform Mr. Lu!”
Lu Fangliang was surprised after listening to what Madam Jiang reported to him. Both the name of the wedding company and the person Zhou Zijian was something he had never heard before. Subconsciously, he told Madam Jiang to reject the call.
Suddenly, he caught the point of that sentence. Miss Lin Wan, wasn't that the woman he had been thinking about for so long?
“Wait a minute!” Lu Fangliang said in a low tone, “Go about your business, I'll have a chat with him.
After picking up the phone, Lu Fangliang said politely, “Hello, this is Lu Fangliang!”
“Hello Mr. Lu, sorry to disturb you. My name is Zhou Zijian. I am the planning supervisor of Dream Wedding Company.”
“Oh, hello Mr. Zhou. Is there anything I can help you with?”
“Well, it's like this, our company held a dream fulfillment activity some time ago to help those who were destined to become a couple. Your daughter was involved in this campaign, and her dream was for you to marry Miss Lin. I am reaching out to you to help you plan the perfect way to fulfill your dream.”
What nonsense was this? Lu Fangliang wanted to hang up the phone. He felt that the other party was just being nosy. There was no need for this at all. How would he, Lu Fangliang, needed someone else’s help to make a woman fall in love with him?
As if he could see his expression, Zhou Zijian said slowly on the other end of the line, “Mr. Lu, if you think we are being redundant, you can hang up on me now. But we are well prepared for this project, and I have some bad news for you.”
“What bad news?” Lu Fangliang's curiosity was successfully piqued.
“The first news is that Miss Lin Wan has resigned, hence she and your daughter will not have any more encounters in the future. The second news is that according to our investigation, we found that she’s actively involved in immigration procedures. Once Miss Lin Wan leaves the country, the two of you will most likely not cross paths ever again.”
What Zhou Zijian said was partially true. Zhou Li was the one who told him this information.
His boss did not allow him to continue to tail Lin Wan, so he had no choice but to find Zhou Li and ask her about Lin Wan's next move.
Unfortunately, Zhou Li couldn't provide much information. However, it didn't take long before she took the initiative to call him.
On the phone, Zhou Li told him clearly that she had resigned, left Shanyang City and divorced her husband. She hoped that Zhou Zijian would keep his promise not to let those evidence come to light so it would not affect her new life.
Zhou Zijian told her frankly that all the evidence had been destroyed and that he would keep his promise. No one else would ever know about those matters.
Zhou Li was satisfied with his response and thanked him. Before hanging up, Zhou Zijian asked her one last time about what Lin Wan had been up to these days. The latter who was probably in a good mood was willing to reveal some new information to him.
Zhou Li told him that Lin Wan had left her job and was preparing to leave the country. She wasn’t sure if it was for travel or immigration purposes, but she knew it happened for sure.
Zhou Li also broke the news to him that the school's choir would soon be competing in the finals. With the current situation, it was highly likely that Mr. Yan would ask Lin Wan back to help him out. This would probably be Lin Wan's last time working with the school.
Afterwards, the boss used his connections to investigate and found that the couple were indeed planning to leave the country. Hence, he instructed Zhou Zijian to speed up, which led to the plans that was happening on the phone.
Both of these news made Lu Fangliang shocked and surprised.
Originally, he planned to take his time and approach Lin Wan slowly. He wasn’t keen to confess his feeling to her in a hurry, but instead to take advantage of the relationship between his daughter and Lin Wan, and gradually get closer to her. But if what Zhou Zijian said was true, then he would stand no chance at all.
“Why do you want to help me?” Lu Fangliang remained alert.
Zhou Zijian smiled, “Mr. Lu, it is not our intention to help you, but it is all because of your daughter who has signed up for this event. To be frank with you, we think of you as a huge customer, and if we can help the both of you fulfill your wishes, this would act as a considerable income for the company.
Lu Fangliang liked what he heard. It was common for businessmen to value and look for profit. The fact that they admitted bluntly they were after his money made Lu Fangliang appreciate how blatant they were.
“How are you going to help me?”
“Mr. Lu, I might as well be straightforward with you. Considering the short period of time left, the usual ways of getting a women’s heart would not work for sure. Desperate time calls for desperate measures. Do you think it’s possible for us to meet up and talk about it?”
“Okay, I’ll leave it for you to decide the location. Let me know and I'll be right there!”
Before he left, Lu Fangliang asked his daughter to re-confirm this matter. The latter told him that she had indeed stumbled across promoters promoting this event on the street. She thought it would be fun to sign up for the dream event, hence she did.
There was nothing suspicious then. After being reassured, Lu Fangliang went for the meet up. The two men met in a restaurant and discussed in a private room for quite some time.
Zhou Zijian told Lu Fangliang the plan in detail while the latter nodded repeatedly. He felt that Zhou Zijian was not a fraud, as the plan mentioned was reliable and had a high degree of success.
Of course it would be reliable, even the boss was personally involved in the planning. With every detail considered clearly, even someone as knowledgeable as Zhou Zijian could not find any fault in it.
In fact, the boss’s constant engagement had already made Zhou Zijian suspicious. He felt that the boss was a little too enthusiastic in Lin Wan’s case.
Could he be doing it for the commission? But the income Zhou Zijian generated for his boss every year was much more than that, so money was definitely not the reason. Why exactly was he so enthusiastic then? Only the boss himself would know.
Without any hesitation, Lu Fangliang agreed to work together and promised, “If this works out, I’ll pay extra 20% bonus on top of the promised amount.”
The most important person in this plan was Lu Jiaxue. Without her cooperation, the whole plan would not be able to be carried out.
While Lu Fangliang was worried about this, Zhou Zijian looked relaxed and told the former that there was no need to worry about this at all. He was confident that all it took was only a few words to get her to be voluntarily involved.
As it turned out, Zhou Zijian was not lying. All he did was said to Lu Jiaxue, “Would you like to participate in a game? The goal is to get Miss Lin Wan back from some baddies.” The little girl nodded her head immediately and agreed.
To Lu Jiaxue, this was just a game. In fact, it sounded like a very fun game. She liked this game a lot and wanted to get her mummy back from the so-called baddies too.
She was just a child in third grade and was unclear of the game’s true motives. She was merely manipulated by adults and believed that her actions were to save her mother from an unhappy family, so she could live happily ever after.
The plan went smoothly and Lin Wan who was unprepared fell headlong into the trap. Who would’ve known that the elder daughter of the famous Lin family in Nanyang City would be led by a little girl by the nose.
Lin Wan loved children. She appreciated their childishness and their naivety. Alas, she never thought that there would be a day that she’d fall into the trap of a child.
...
When Zhou Zijian received the call, he said excitedly, “Great, Mr. Lu, just follow the plan we discussed beforehand. You must remember to not rush things, and do not make any mistakes that’ll make her suspicious. We'll take care of the rest.”
“Alright, no problem, I know what to do!”
After putting down the phone, Lu Fangliang freshened himself up and looked at the mirror repeatedly to make sure he looked great before leaving the room.
It was already late in the evening when Lin Wan arrived at the playground. After parking the car, she held Lu Jiaxue’s hands and walked to the playground.
At first, she thought it wouldn’t take up much of her time, and she would return the little girl back to Lu Fangliang when he arrived, hence she did not call her husband.
However, Lu Jiaxue was so excited that she dragged Lin Wan around and wanted to go on every ride.
It wasn't long before Lu Fangliang arrived at the playground. After locating Lin Wan, he thanked her profusely.
Lin Wan took the opportunity to say goodbye, but Lu Jiaxue cried and said, “Mummy you’re not keeping your promise. You said you would play with me, but you’re leaving now. Mummy, you’re lying, I knew it, you don't like me!”
The little girl's voice was so loud that it caused many people to look over, and some even pointed at them. Lin Wan blushed profusely and looked at Lu Fangliang to ask for help.
Lu Fangliang's expression became a little sad as he said to Lin Wan, “Miss Lin, please don’t blame Jiaxue for talking nonsense. She lost her mother at a very young age. And it has always been her dream to go to the playground with her mother. If it's convenient for you, do you mind?”
Lin Wan squatted down and wiped the little girl's tears. She comforted her, “Jiaxue, don’t cry, teacher won't leave you. I’ll accompany you.”
“Mummy, stop calling yourself teacher. You are my mummy and I am your daughter. Will you be my mummy for a few days?” Teary eyed, the little girl pleaded.
“Jiaxue, stop fooling around. Don’t force people to do things they’re uncomfortable with!” Lu Fangliang put on an act and reprimanded.
Lin Wan smiled and waved her hand as she replied gently, “Sure, I'm your mother from now on. Come on, let mummy give you a kiss!”
Since I can't leave, then I’d better spend this time well with my student. With this in mind, Lin Wan accompanied the little girl to play.
The little girl was finally satisfied. Holding her father with her left hand and her mother with her right hand, she picked rides that all of them could participate in. At first, Lin Wan resisted a little, but ended up going along with it.
What she didn't know was that there was a camera that had everything captured, including happy moments of the three of them as a “family”.
Lu Fangliang did well and did not overstep the boundaries in any way. He was successful in portraying the image of a loving father and good husband.
Many strangers who passed by occasionally exclaimed, “Gee, what a happy family! Is this your daughter?”
Whenever this happened, Lu Jiaxue would reply loudly, “This is my mother, this is my father, and I am their daughter!”
At first, Lin Wan would feel embarrassed and explained herself. But as more people asked, she got used to these questions and gradually didn't bother to explain anymore.
She thought this was nothing more than an act, and she was doing it just to comfort this little girl who had the same fate with her. She even thought of herself as a heroine, and was very proud of what she was doing.
Alas, Lin Wan had forgotten something. It was the word ‘boundary’. She forgot her husband’s temper as well as his limits. There was no one framing her this time, she was the one who fell into the trap willingly.
