Chapter 100 Irreparable

He Xiaoyu opened a gift box and placed a copy of the CD in it. She then sealed the box and handed it to Li Mu.

“Are you planning to settle the score with her tomorrow?”

“Is there still a need for me to do so? I'm going to write her a letter and leave her a divorce settlement. I’ll leave the rest to her!”

He Xiaoyu said with disdain, “She has no choice but to agree for a divorce. What she did was equivalent to agreeing to Lu Fangliang's marriage proposal. I don’t think she has the audacity to not agree for a divorce upon seeing what she did!”

Li Mu took off the wedding ring from his finger and held it in his hand. While looking at it carefully, his eyes were filled with reluctance and perplexity.

He Xiaoyu snatched it away from him and threw it out the window. Not far away was an artificial lake, and the ring plopped into the water with a small splash and sank to the bottom.

This action upset Li Mu and he couldn't help but grumble at He Xiaoyu.

Not taking it seriously, He Xiaoyu said, “Li Mu, was I wrong to throw it away? When we are married in the future, you are never wearing that ring again anymore. Plus, the sight of it will haunt you, so you might as well throw it away.”

“That cost quite a lot of money. What a pity to throw it away!”

“How is it a pity? We'll go buy a new on. Li Mu, she has already agreed to someone else’s marriage proposal. When will you propose to me?” He Xiaoyu pouted.

“Right after she accepted the proposal, I asked you to marry me immediately. What do you think you are, a backup? Do you really want me to do that?” Li Mu asked her back.

“Well, I don’t mind. As long as I’ll be together with you. I want you to propose to me now, or I'll propose to you!”

“Don't be ridiculous, Xiaoyu. If I ask you to marry me now, it is not because I love you. But instead it’s to trigger Lin Wan. This kind of behavior just shows that I haven't let go of her. Do you really want me to do that?”

He Xiaoyu hesitated and was uncertain what to do next.

Li Mu took her hand and said sincerely, “The fact that I'm not proposing now means that I’m still in my right mind. I've always been serious when it comes to marriage issues. I’ll definitely propose to you when the time is right!”

“So, when will the time be right? I'm getting older and older. Are you really willing to let me become a leftover woman who has no husband?”

“After the divorce. I'll propose to you as soon as I’m done with that marriage for good!”

He Xiaoyu was overjoyed and gave him a huge kiss on the cheek. She was worried that any further delays might bring her unwanted trouble. So she wanted to take this opportunity to settle their relationship. By doing this, she wouldn’t need to worry that Lin Wan would try to turn the tables later.

Some may say that Li Mu's promise was a little too hasty. Wasn’t he a little too heartless and unrighteous to Lin Wan, and a little too irresponsible to He Xiaoyu?

This required some clarification. Those videos had torn their love to pieces. So how could one say he was heartless and unrighteous for pursuing happiness after his divorce?

He and He Xiaoyu spent a lot of time together. And they were both in love with each other. All that was left was for them to confess their feelings. They couldn’t do so before the divorce, but they had nothing to worry about after it. As the saying goes, when conditions are right, success will follow naturally.

Still, He Xiaoyu was much more compatible with him than his wife. But fate and destiny are two of the most wonderful terms in the world. Is it always possible to be together if two people are more compatible with each other?

He asked He Xiaoyu to sit down, and the latter nestled herself in his arms and hooked her hands around his neck.

Li Mu did not refuse her intimacy. The two were about to date each other anyway, and it was no longer any need to stay loyal for that soon-to-be-dead marriage.

“Xiaoyu, tell me the truth. How exactly did you get these videos?”

Without a hint of concealment, He Xiaoyu immediately confessed everything about Zhou Zijian, including all the details of his planning.

Lin Wan was clearly inferior to her in this aspect. The latter was always willing to be honest with Li Mu, while the former always liked to come up with beautiful lies.

This had a lot to do with their upbringing. He Xiaoyu’s parents were both well and alive. she did not lack any fatherly and motherly love, and had a strict family ethos. On top of that, she received a good family life education from an early age.

Lin Wan, on the other hand, was an orphan, and was very insecure. In order to create that sense of perfection for herself, she always liked to make up imaginary and delusional thoughts. Over time, this caused her to develop the habit of lying.

Li Mu did not blame He Xiaoyu. This matter may seem like Lin Wan was wronged and a victim. But He Xiaoyu was right. No one forced her to do that. She was the one who liked to step on the borderline. She was the one who ruined her marriage with her own hands, hence she could only blame herself.

In some way, both He Xiaoyu and Li Mu were accomplices. But if one stood in their shoes, there was nothing wrong with their actions.

They could advice and stop Lin Wan from pushing the limits and getting herself into trouble. And then what? If Lin Wan were not willing to come to realization herself, sooner or later she would get herself into another mess like this. Should they control her for the rest of her life? What value was there in a marriage like that?

Li Mu came home the next afternoon. He placed the gift box on the coffee table and a file pocket underneath a gift box. He also left a note for Lin Wan, reminding her to read the contents of the file pocket after she finished watching the gift.

After walking around the room, Li Mu stopped for a long time especially in front of their wedding photos.

He teared up as he recalled their past.

At the same time, Lin Wan was busy leading the students towards victory.

The performance was a huge success. With thunderous applause and high marks from the judges, the choir won the city championship without any doubts.

During the award ceremony, the organizing committee announced at the last minute that there would be an additional award for the best instructor. And it was only fitting that this prestigious award belonged to Lin Wan.

Lin Wan burst into tears with excitement. The happy ending she had been yearning for had finally come true. Her educational career ended without regrets.

After the competition, Mr. Yan invited Lin Wan to a celebration banquet, but was declined by her. All she wanted now was to see her husband and share the joy with him as soon as possible.

The crowd couldn't ask her to stay, hence they sent her off.

Lin Wan hurriedly drove home and when she opened the door to her room, she found that Li Mu was not at home.

She was a little disappointed as this was not what she had imagined at all. She looked forward to a scene where her husband greeted her warmly when she opened the door, and the couple embraced each other tightly, feeling each other's heartbeats and awakening their long-lost love.

Sighing, Lin Wan placed the trophy and award on the coffee table and found the gift box.

With a giggle, Lin Wan laughed out loud. It seemed like her husband had already returned, and hid himself on purpose. He probably intended to make her emotional with his gift first, before ending it with an extraordinary reunion between the two of them.

There was a note on the gift box that stated, “Please watch the gift first, and then the contents of the file pocket!”

Lin Wan's smile grew even bigger as she picked up the gift box, which suddenly felt somewhat familiar. Upon closer examination, she realized that it was the same style as the gift box given to Lu Jiaxue.

She had no idea that her husband would like this kind of gift box too. This gift must be very precious, as the gift box itself costed quite a lot too.

Little did she know that this gift box was not prepared by Li Mu, but by He Xiaoyu, who chose it deliberately to humiliate her!

When the truth came out, this gift box would transform into mockery.

Lin Wan opened the gift box and inside were five discs, each marked with the date they were burned, the latest date being yesterday.

She felt strange. What did this mean? What could her husband possibly have recorded in the CDs?

Thinking back to those words that Li Mu said, “Life of a family”; “Warm memories.” Did this meant that her husband had made a video of their memories?

Lin Wan got a little excited. She hurriedly turned on the projection equipment, put the first disc into the optical disc compartment and pressed the play button.

When the screen lit up, Lin Wan was dumbfounded. She stared blankly at the screen, with her face pale and her head in a complete daze.

It was as if she felt violently from the sky, or as if she went from someone fiery hot to somewhere icy cold.

It took her a long time to react and once she got to her senses, she couldn’t bear to look at it a second more. The laughter in the videos was so ear-piercing. And looking at herself in the video felt like she was watching a stranger instead.

Now that the roles were swapped, she suddenly knew what she had done wrong. As she looked back at the footage again from the perspective of a bystander, it became clear to her that this was not what a wife should do. She finally got to her senses!

Shuddering, she took out the first disc and put the second one in. And the screen lit up once again.

Just a few seconds in, she felt chills all over her body and subconsciously curled her body on the sofa. She wrapped her hands around her knees, buried her head between her legs and wailed loudly.

It was over!

That was Lin Wan's only thought now. It was all over. There was no need to watch the rest of the discs. She remembered what had happened all these days and how she had behaved.

She had never imagined that each and every move of hers would be viewed by her husband. It made her feel ashamed, and she had no courage to face her husband ever again.

Lin Wan finally knew the real reason for her husband's weird actions. Why he no longer ate what she cooked; why he no longer came home; why he was as cold as ice to her; why he sneered and mocked her; and why he used that gift box.

Her husband was so cruel. He exposed her lies in such a humiliating way, leaving her completely speechless.

Lin Wan did not call Li Mu. She knew very well that their marriage was over. No matter how much she begged and apologized, she could not make up for the mental damage she had done to her husband. No one had wronged her this time.

She was wrongly accused! Lin Wan jerked her head up. She was certainly at fault. But how did her husband get these videos?

She suddenly figured it all out. Someone was setting her up and she had foolishly fallen into the trap!

Lin Wan hated it so much. She hated people who had ill intentions for setting her up; hated herself for being stupid; and hated her husband for being so heartless!

She was so remorseful and regretted it to the core. She should have known better than to agree to go back to school and help. She was so stupid to lose something that was so important to her for something else.

At this moment, the trophy on the coffee table was a major insult to her eyes. Lin Wan grabbed it violently and slammed it on the floor. The ceramic trophy was shattered, just like how shattered her mood was at the moment.

After a moment's hesitation, Lin Wan called Mrs. Hong and bailed furiously before she could speak.

Mrs. Hong was taken aback and hurriedly asked what had happened. But Lin Wan just cried and cried without saying a word.

On the other end of the phone, Mrs. Hong who was panicked kept asking Lin Wan where she was.

Lin Wan finally said something, “At home!”

After knowing Lin Wan was at home, Mrs. Hong sped right there. When she entered the house, she saw Lin Wan crying and the broken porcelain pieces all over the floor. Bewildered, she asked, “Did you have a fight with Li Mu?”

It was better not to mention his name, but she did. Lin Wan immediately hugged her and cried bitterly. Mrs. Hong became furious immediately. “Did he bully you? Don't worry. I’ll let him pay for this!”

“No, no. It's my fault. Mrs. Hong, think of a way to help me. I can't live without him. I won't be able to live without him. You have to help me.”

“My dear, what on earth happened? You have to tell me first. How can I help you if I don't know anything?”
