Li Mu gazed at the starry sky. The air in the woods was very fresh. And the night was cloudless. He found the Big Dipper, a seven-star constellation shaped like a spoon without any difficulty.

After identifying Dubhe and Merak at the mouth of the spoon, Li Mu successfully traced the North Star that was located somewhere about five times the distance between the stars.

He faced north after identifying the bearing. The front was north; the back was south; the left was west; and the right was east. Finally, he got his direction right.

However, he still needed to know how to walk out of the woods after determining the direction. The stupidest way would be to walk in one direction without turning left or right and knowing where it would lead.

Li Mu decided to use the stupidest method since he did not have a destination in mind. He was not sure whether they could walk out of the woods. But at least they would have a one-fourth percentage of success rate using this method.

The girls strongly disagreed with his suggestion and felt that he was not in his right mind.

He decided to throw his shoe and let it determine which direction to take since they could not agree or disagree with each other!

Li Mu took off one of his shoes and threw it upward. He looked in the direction where the shoe pointed and said to the girls, “Let’s take this direction!”

Looking at his unreliable method, Shen Zixing pointed in another direction and said, “Brother Mu, follow me. I can sense there are humans twenty miles away from this direction!”

Li Mu glanced at her suspiciously while Shen Ming’er laughed by his side and said, “Brother Mu, please listen to her. Her ability to trace Qi is at the advanced level. Even our Master was not as good as her.”

“You should have told me earlier. We don’t have to wander in the jungle at this hour then!” Li Mu said unhappily.

“I thought you know the direction!” Shen Zixing talked back softly.

“You think so? Just tell me which direction to take next time so that I don’t have to throw my shoe anymore!”

“Alright. I will do so!”

After determining the direction, they started to walk quickly. The girls were walking with him patiently. But a short while later, Shen Ming’er complained that Li Mu walked too slowly and asked Shen Zixing to carry him.

Li Mu was an open-minded person. He knew how strong the girls were. So he did not say anything about the suggestion. However, he was very much taller than Shen Zixing. He would be too big for the little girl to carry at her back.

At last, Shen Zixing came out with the idea of carrying him with one of them holding his head and the other hugging his legs.

All three of them agreed with the decision. Therefore, the girls carried Li Mu horizontally and dashed forward fast as lightning. Suddenly, they bumped into two illegal poachers who came to hunt for animals. Li Mu shouted, “There are ghosts here! Help me!”

The poachers saw a man who was carried horizontally by two unknown long-haired creatures that dashed past them with a non-human speed, screaming and yelling at the top of his voice.

They were dumbfounded and one of them fainted out of fear. After the poachers came to their senses, they ran back home terrifyingly. Both of them were very ill after that. Never again did they go to the jungle.

A twenty-mile journey was nothing to the girls. In a short while, they arrived at a nearby small town. In front of them was the marketplace. People would find them odd if they continued carrying Li Mu in that way. Therefore, the girls put him down and walked into the town with him.

Li Mu might not have that much experience compared to the girls in wilderness survival skills. On the contrary, the girls would never be as experienced as Li Mu in city life survival skills.

The girls rarely went down the mountain ever since they were born. Though it was not a busy town, it was enough for the girls to look around and be amazed.

Both of them were cautious and worried that they would get lost. Therefore, each of them hugged one of Li Mu’s arms and followed him wherever he went.

Li Mu got a lot of money with him, which helped him do many things easily. They first found a place to eat. Then they went to the supermarket to buy some daily necessities. Besides, he also bought three backpacks to carry their food and belongings wherever they went.

Next, he got to find a place to sleep overnight. They didn’t dare go to the big hotel because they had no identity cards. They had no choice but to look for a small inn to stay.

That kind of place was dangerous and packed with people from different backgrounds. However, Li Mu was not afraid because the girls would protect him anyway. Those bad guys might be in danger instead if he went to create trouble for them.

Towards the end of an isolated alley, Li Mu found a small inn to stay. After walking into the inn, he saw a plump woman sitting behind the counter yawning and she did not realize somebody had walked into the inn.

Li Mu walked towards her and knocked at the counter. The woman got a shock and lifted her head unhappily. “What do you want?”

Judging from her accent, it seemed like she was from the same hometown as Li Mu. He said politely, “Hi, I want a room!”

The woman looked at them from top to bottom and glanced at the girls couple times.

“Your identity cards?”

Li Mu passed her his fake identity card. The woman threw it to him after briefly checking the details on the card.

“What about them?”

“We were in a rush and have forgotten to bring along their identity cards.”

The plump woman did not say anything but gave him a disdainful smile. Then, she threw a room key on the counter. “Fifty yuan for one night. The deposit is one hundred yuan. We take cash only, no cards.”

Li Mu did not say anything and gave her one hundred and fifty yuan obediently. Subsequently, he took the key and walked into the inn, followed by the girls.

After opening the room door, Li Mu could not help frowning. The small room was shabby, with two wooden beds in the middle and a dilapidated bedside table in between. The bedding was old and had a musty smell on it.

Fortunately, there was a separate bathroom, which was the only good thing about this room.

To be honest, this room did not even worth fifty yuan. Every corner in the room was dark and greasy and made people feel uncomfortable.

Shen Zixing smiled and said, “Brother Mu, see how I’m going to clean this up!”

She took a small porcelain bottle out of the bag when she talked to him. As she opened the cap, a swarm of unknown black bugs flew to the ground from the bottle.

Shen Zixing whistled, and the bugs quickly moved around the room. Wherever they went past, the spots would become sparkling clean.

Li Mu asked in shock, “What kind of magic is this?”

“This is not magic!” Shen Zixing explained, “They are called Dirt Eater and like to eat specks of dirt. It’s convenient to use them during cleaning.”

Li Mu was shocked looking at what had just happened. Though there was a swarm of them, he could not comprehend how these bugs could eat up so much dirt.

Nevertheless, he knew that all these tricks were related to magic and spells, which one could not explain using human logic. He decided not to ask further about it as long as they could eat up all the specks of dirt in the room.

The Dirt Eaters finished cleaning the room in just a short while. Shen Zixing put the porcelain bottle on the floor, and all the bugs crawled towards the bottle and swarmed into it.

After all of them went back into the bottle, Shen Zixing closed the cap and put the bottle back into her bag.

Then, she took some powder from a small sachet and sprinkled it evenly on the beddings.

Immediately, the beddings smelled fresh and looked new. Shen Zixing smiled and said, “All good! We can sleep on them now!”

Li Mu divided the daily necessities evenly for three of them and passed the backpacks to the girls.

“Use this from now onwards. It can carry many things and is easier to carry. These two backpacks are for you. One for each of you. You can put all your belongings into the backpacks!”

All of them tidied up the stuff and went to bed. Though it was a wooden bed, it was considered a good one to Li Mu. Before this, he was sleeping in the cargo piles, which was not even a bed.

After many days of traveling, three of them hadn’t had a good rest until then. They went to bed and fell asleep after locking the door.

There were two beds in the room. Li Mu slept on one of them and the girls slept on the other. Fortunately, both of them were small in size. So it was alright for them to sleep together.

Li Mu was exhausted and dozed off once he got on the bed. He had many dreams. All of them looked like a movie that kept on changing scenes.

He did not know how long he had slept. But as he was sleeping soundly, suddenly, a person pushed him a little.

Li Mu’s alertness had improved tremendously after going through all the past experiences. At once, he woke up from his sleep and found a person squatting in front of him.

When he was about to scream, the person covered his mouth and whispered in his ear, “Don’t make noise, Brother Mu. It’s me!”

Judging from her voice, Li Mu knew that she was Shen Zixing. He realized something had happened and took away her hand. With a gentle voice, he asked, “What’s going on?”

“Some bad guys are walking back and forth outside. Five of them were discussing ideas on how to attack us.”

“How did you come to know that?”

“They’re just ordinary people. They can’t hide anything from us. Brother Mu, they and the plump woman are a gang. They want to kill you and then sell us to somebody in the mountain.”

Li Mu sat up and took a knife from his bag. He bought it from the supermarket, not to cut vegetables but to protect himself.

He waved at the girls and asked them to come near him. Li Mu asked, “Does it help me cultivate fatal energy if I kill them?”

“You can. But it will cultivate very little energy only. You got to kill many people to cultivate fatal energy. It’s not enough to kill just a few people.” Shen Zixing explained.

Then, Li Mu kept the knife and said to them, “You don’t have to wake me up for small things like this. Go and chase them away!”

Shen Ming’er said, “Brother Mu, we don’t know what to do with them. We’re afraid that they will continue to do bad things if we let them go. We can’t keep them by our side if we do not let them go. Both of us are indecisive on what to do. That’s why we woke you up.”

Li Mu did not move and continued lying on the bed. After thinking for a bit, he said, “It seems like this is a gangster inn. They must have done a lot of evils. Remember this. You’re doing a good deed when you get rid of the bad guys. Let them kill themselves somewhere else. You don’t have to dirty your hands for them.”
