By bone replacement, it wasn’t merely just replacing finger bones. That was just a piece of cake in the field of bone replacement.
A true bone replacement was to replace the bones of the arms and legs of a normal person with those of a Corpse of Death. After the replacement, the person was not only able to produce fatal energy, but would also be full of energy, be able to walk at a blistering pace, and have endurance and power that was incomparable to commoners.
Li Mu was tempted. He was now alone with no one to back him up. To put it directly, he was fighting this alone. Hence, he needed to be stronger as soon as possible. He could only protect himself better if he became stronger.
Of course, this would only happen if he found the Bone of Death. If he couldn’t find it, all his imaginations would not come true and he would still be the same old weakling.
No matter which cultivator had obtained the Bone of Death, the first thing that came into consideration was to refine them into corpse puppets. Corpse puppets that had been refined with the Bone of Death weren’t invincible. But they were extremely powerful and were considered as one of the most reliable weapons.
It was not easy to obtain the Bone of Death. And whoever got it would try their best to maximize its abilities. Hence though many cultivators existed, it was rare for them to be involved with bone replacement, which was a stubborn act.
But it wasn’t the same for Li Mu. He didn’t know this. He thought that the Corpse of Death was nothing without an arm and leg.
Besides that, he needed the power. As long as he became stronger, he couldn’t care less whether it would be wasted or utilized. His only consideration was whether it was useful for him or not, as it was for free anyway.
After they set off, Li Mu avoided the expressways and chose the national highways instead, as he’d better be safe than sorry.
When they were getting closer to the mountains, Shen Zixing suddenly said, “Brother Mu, I think I smell it again. Keep going. I’ll try to identify it.”
Overjoyed, Li Mu drove on.
After two hours, Shen Zixing said, “That’s right. It’s the smell of the Corpse of Death. I’m sure it’s in the mountains. Brother Mu, we didn’t travel here for nothing!”
“Don’t be too happy about it first. Let’s only celebrate after getting what we want!” Li Mu said to avoid any disappointment afterward.
“Brother Mu, don’t worry. With me and my sister, the treasure is all ours!” Shen Ming’er said confidently.
“You brat. It seems like all these movies you’ve been watching have made you good at words, huh? Don’t be too confident yet. Listen to me and be more cautious!”
The two of them responded cheekily. But by their expressions, it was obvious that they didn’t take it seriously.
Li Mu asked Shen Zixing instead, “Please lead the way. You can give directions while I’ll focus on driving!”
“Alright. That way!”
Under Shen Zixing’s guidance, the car turned at a junction and headed towards the mountains. Gradually, the conditions of the road became worse and worse. In the end, there was no road for them to go any further.
The three of them got out of the car and prepared to hike into the mountains. Li Mu looked at the large mountains in front of him and couldn’t help but ask, “How much longer do we have to walk from here to the burial site?”
“It’s not too far away!” Shen Zixing replied, “Two more mountains to go.”
Li Mu hurriedly suggested, “Then let’s leave now and get back here before it turns dark!”
“No rush. It is now late noon. And it’s already past 3 in the afternoon. This is not the best time to open the coffin. Let’s wait here overnight and leave at noon tomorrow so we can open the coffin at 3 p.m. in the afternoon to get the bones.”
Curious, Li Mu couldn’t help but ask, “Is there still a time limit to take the Bone of Death?”
“Yes, the fatal energy of the Corpse of Death starts to weaken at noon every day and is at its weakest at 3 in the afternoon. So it is safest to open the coffin at this time. We’ll minimize our danger!”
Li Mu finally understood. The two sisters were experts in this field. Hence he’d definitely follow suit to what they said.
They spent the night without a word at the foot of the mountain. The next day near noon, they took their gears and the two ladies carried Li Mu into the mountains.
The two young ladies sped as fast as lightning. And it didn’t take them long to reach the depths of a mountain pass.
Hidden in the depths of the mountains and surrounded by dense forests that blocked out the sky, there was no sunlight all day and gave off eerie chills.
When the two ladies put Li Mu down, Shen Zixing pointed to a grave not far away and whispered, “Brother Mu, do you see that little bump? That’s where the Corpse of Death is buried.”
Li Mu looked at it and thought it looked just like any other bump. If Shen Zixing hadn’t mentioned it, he would not have noticed it at all. Who would know that the infamous Corpse of Death was buried in this inconspicuous little bump?
“What do we do now? Do we make the next move?”
“Yeah. It’s getting pretty late. Let’s dig the grave open first. We’ll open the coffin at 3 p.m. later to get the bones!”
After saying that, Shen Zixing got the tools and wanted to dig the grave with her sister.
“Wait!”
Li Mu stopped them and took out the masks, gloves, scarves, and sunglasses from his backpack and told them to put these on. He did the same thing to himself and waved his hand as a signal for them to start.
The two sisters felt that Mu was a little too cautious, as they were just opening the coffin to get the bones. They weren’t stealing or robbing anyway. Why was there a need to wrap themselves up so tightly?
Little did they know that Li Mu was just worried about the release of poisonous gas or bacteria after opening the coffin. And it was better safe than sorry.
They sprang into action quickly, especially the two young ladies who sped through like bolt with their shovels. In a split second, the grave was dug open and a maroon-colored coffin was seen.
Seeing the coffin, Shen Zixing suddenly exclaimed.
“What’s wrong?” Anxious, Li Mu asked.
“This is owned by someone else. The person deliberately buried it here with the intention of using the eeriness of this land to feed the corpse!” Shen Zixing explained.
“How do you know?”
“There are symbols carved on the coffin slab. It’s a kind of mark similar to a family totem. And the person who carved it wanted to tell others that the fatal corpse belonged to them and that no one else was allowed to get at it.”
“Let me have a look. Let me have a look!” Shen Ming’er leaned in and exclaimed after looking at it, “It’s true. It does have a mark! Seems like it has an owner. Brother Mu, are we still down to it?”
Li Mu asked solemnly, “What will happen if we proceed? And what will happen if we don’t?”
Shen Zixing replied, “If we do it, we’ll let them take us as enemies then. In case we meet in the future, we’ll let them decide how to take revenge. If we don’t do it, the chances of obtaining a Corpse of Death again are rare. And we’ve traveled quite a lot. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve encountered a Corse of Death.”
“I don’t get it. It’s not like the owner of this Corpse of Death is here anyway. Even if we move it, how would he know it was us?” Li Mu asked, puzzled.
“He has made some marks on the bones of the Corpse of Death. He’ll definitely recognize them when he encounters them later!
“Is there a way to eliminate it?”
“I’m not too sure yet. I’ll have to check it first.”
“Let’s do it then!” Li Mu immediately decided, “After opening the coffin, check it carefully. Bury it back if it doesn’t work. If it works, finder’s keeper.”
“Right!” Shen Ming’er immediately agreed, “Finder’s keeper! So what if we touched his stuff? If he dares to seek revenge on us, I’ll deal with him myself!”
“Make way and let your sister do it alone.”
Li Mu pulled Shen Ming’er back and the latter said with frustration, “Brother Mu, I’m just one year younger than her. I can do what she can too! Don’t look down on me!”
“You’re just one year younger yet you’re still so impetuous. It’s better to let your sister do it as she’s more attentive than you and won’t leave unfinished traces behind.”
“Then her butt isn’t as big as mine!” Shen Ming’er retorted in a small voice.
Li Mu didn’t understand it at all. What did this matter have to do with the size of one’s butts? Did it mean the larger a cultivator’s butts are, the higher the power?”
“So?” Li Mu asked, very vainly.
“The bigger the butt, the more kids you’ll have! I can give birth to a son for you. Brother Mu, that’s something she’ll not be able to do!”
Li Mu scoffed as he couldn’t help but scold, “You little brat. You’re so full of nonsense! Who told you that? Is it your Master again?”
“Nope, the television!”
“That’s all nonsense. You should watch less of those in the future!”
Shen Zixing turned her head and said to her sister very seriously, “I can give birth to a boy too!”
“Talk less and do more! If you two dare to talk nonsense again, leave this instance!” Li Mu shouted and scolded.
After saying that, he knocked Shen Ming’er twice on her head and pulled her away.
Shen Zixing prepared to open the coffin by first taking out a small bag from her backpack. She poured out a handful of incense powder and sprinkled it evenly around the coffin.
“What is your sister doing?” Li Mu asked in a small voice.
“She is sprinkling patchouli powder. Patchouli powder can generate positive energy. And when opening the coffin, it can prevent evil spirits from rushing from the coffin.”
Immediately afterward, Shen Zixing took out a brush, dipped it in vermilion, and began to draw talismans on the surface of the coffin slab. Li Mu knew that this should also be the preparation work before opening the coffin, in order to suppress the fatal energy and prevent any danger.
After the preparations were done, Shen Zixing used a crowbar to open the coffin. She might look weak but she was actually very strong. And it only took her two or three strokes to pry open the lid of the coffin. She then reached out to lift the cover.
From Li Mu’s point of view, he could not see what was inside the coffin. But according to Shen Zixing’s movements, what was inside was certainly rather complicated, causing her to be extra careful.
After observing for a while, Shen Zixing slowly lifted the lid of the coffin, keeping her eyes fixed on the coffin as if she was looking for something.
“You brat. Stop staring. Close the lid!” A chiding voice suddenly came from inside the coffin. The voice was strange and did not sound like a human.
