Chapter 80 Bloodbath in the Mengs

A disgusting and pungent smell had filled the air. The sound of wailing showed that a cruel slaughter was going on. The sound of knives and swords cutting through people’s body had shocked everyone. The number of corpses on the ground kept increasing, and they were about to pile up like a hill. There seemed to be nothing left but the color of red in this world, dyeing the mansion of the Mengs, where once lived the most prosperous and richest family in Huaiyang City.

A royal edict was announced to the public - the Mengs was in treacherous collusion with foreign kingdoms. They forged the former king’s last royal edict and tried to break the laws. They had committed unforgivable sins, and the entire clan of the Mengs should be executed. But the new king was about to ascend the throne. He was merciful, so he spared the daughters of the Mengs and allowed them to work in brothels while others should all be executed.

Last night, Meng Xi, the eldest daughter of the Mengs, secretly stole the tiger-shaped tally from her father’s study room. She gave it to Crown Prince Yun. But as a girl who ran businesses, she was not stupid and naive. She had realized things were not as simple as Crown Prince Yun said. However, she still chose to trust him unconditionally only because she loved him.

Crown Prince Yun got the tiger-shaped tally and asked Meng Xi to wait for him in his bedroom. He said he had to leave for a while. Crown Prince Yun soon returned when Meng Xi was waiting anxiously. He smiled and let her stay in the royal palace to rest.

“Xier, it’s getting late. You should stay here tonight!”

“I want to go home.”

“No need to hurry. Be a good girl and have a good rest first. Tonight, I have to deal with something, so I won’t be here.”

“What are you going to do?”

“It’s nothing important. Just wait for me here. Everything will be settled before tomorrow afternoon. We won’t have to be separated anymore, and we will be together forever.”

Before Meng Xi spoke, Crown Prince Yun kissed her forehead and left his palace. That night, the bedroom door was locked, and the whole place became a prison to stop the girl from going home.

The moon that night was surprisingly round, which had always been a symbol of family reunion. However, it showed a kind of subtle weirdness. Meng Xi stayed up all night watching the moon. Feeling unsettled, she suddenly hoped that daybreak would never arrive.

However, daybreak would arrive sooner or later. Meng Xi hadn’t slept all night, flustered. She decided to secretly knock out the court eunuchs and palace maids guarding her and managed to blend into the army. Meanwhile, Crown Prince Yun took a large group of people heading for the mansion of the Mengs. It was a pity that she was on the last team. It seemed that she was destined to be late—she had to witness the cruelty she didn’t want to see.

Stepping into the mansion of the Mengs again, she heard someone announcing the royal edict. Meng Xi witnessed the Mengs killed by the royal army one by one in front of her. The splattered blood had covered her eyes. Desperate crying was stopped by the cruel slaughter. Meng Xi felt so insignificant in the crowd. The girl in the soldier’s uniform was unable to change anything. Her heart had been torn apart by despair. Her sisters were struggling and screaming desperately. However, they were still caught.

In the front gate of the mansion of the Mengs, only Meng Xi’s parents and one of her father’s concubines were still alive, protected by two confidential guards who were heavily injured. But they couldn’t hold any longer. Meng Xi ran to them desperately, wishing her parents and her father’s concubine could be safe.

Unfortunately, the girl was a step late. When she was about to reach the courtyard corridor, her mother was pushed out by the concubine and ran into a guard’s knife nearby. The gleaming knife mercilessly pierced into her body. Blood flowed out, and the dazzling red color had stimulated the girl’s heart.

At this moment, Meng Xi realized her mother had recognized her. She said, “Xier, run away.” Meng Xi was in a panic, and the soldier hat on her head fell off. Her hair was scattered like a waterfall, dancing in the wind, exuding an indescribable feeling of beautiful sadness. The extreme sadness left Meng Xi at a loss. She ran forward, holding her mother in her arms, and cried bitterly. Blood had soaked her clothes red. She wanted to block the bleeding hole on her mother’s body. However, it was useless no matter how hard she tried with her hands. Her mother’s warm blood flowed through her hands without stopping. Her mother lost all her strength at this moment, but she still wanted to push her to let her escape. Eventually, she failed. Her eyes lost focus and closed forever.

Master Meng was no longer young, but he was a successful and chivalrous man. Seeing his baby girl, he shed his tears for the first time after he became an adult. She was his most precious daughter! If he was gone, who else would protect her? In the meantime, he did not expect his concubine would sacrifice his wife for self-protection. But at the last moment of his life, he had no time to worry about other things. He could only see Meng Xi now, the daughter he raised, his sweetheart, his baby girl.

“Xier, what are you doing here!? I don’t blame you. Leave here as soon as possible...”

However, before he could finish his sentence, a big knife pierced his body. He was still staring at Meng Xi. Without closing his eyes, he fell straight to the ground, making a thud. The sound was not loud, but it hit Meng Xi’s heart. Her heart seemed to be torn fiercely again. It was hard to describe the pain in her heart at this moment. The painful feeling from the bones was heart-piercing, making the girl unable to control herself.

Meng Xi had lost her mother a few seconds ago. Now she lost her father. At that moment, time seemed to stop, and only desperate silence was left. The girl couldn’t utter a word. Her body was frozen, and she was isolated from the world. After a long time, Meng Xi screamed out of her despair. At this moment, that concubine and the two confidential guards had already been killed. Apart from the soldiers, she was left with the corpses of her family. The girl was completely lost in red and the smell of blood. Her sisters’ screaming kept reminding her how ironic and sad reality was.

At that moment, Crown Prince Yun, who was watching aside, had recognized her. Because of the order of not killing the Mengs’ daughters, the soldiers did not kill her even though she was acting madly. Crown Prince Yun couldn’t figure out why his loved girl was here. She should be in his palace! That’s right. Crown Prince Yun had planned to hide it from her for the rest of her life and secretly killed her family. This time, he deliberately didn’t behead the Mengs openly. If he did so, the people could regard it as deterrence of the new king. Still, he chose to give up on this opportunity regardless of other people’s objections because he wanted to keep it secret from her. He closed the door of the mansion of the Mengs and killed them in secret. However, she had witnessed everything with her own eyes. How could Meng Xi endure such pain!? Seeing the girl’s look, Crown Prince Yun panicked. He ran to her in a hurry, ignoring the objection of the people around him. He rushed towards her anxiously and quickly. The closer he moved to her, the harder he felt making the step.

The young girl in a soldier uniform was holding Master Meng’s body with one hand. Her father stopped breathing gradually. Her other hand was holding her dead mother. She cried like crazy, “Father, Mother, I am wrong. I am so wrong. I should never believe in shitty love. I should not steal the tiger-shaped tally. Please come back. Please come back! I promise I will be a good girl... Dad, Mom...” Her crying of grief was so desperate and sad.

What had she done? Her father, her mother, her sisters and their mothers... Everything about the Mengs was buried right in front of her. Meng Xi questioned herself repeatedly and kept crying. There was nothing she could do now but only hate herself. She shouldn’t believe in that man. Dead people could never come back to life.

Finally, Crown Prince Yun came to her. He stretched out his hands and tried to touch her, but he flinched. Finally, he called her, “Xier.”

“Get lost.” The girl didn’t even raise her head. She had a beautiful voice, but right now, it was icy cold. She had cried so much that her voice was hoarse, like a sound from hell.

“Xier, I am sorry.” Crown Prince Yun was so distressed, but he didn’t dare to touch her. He only hoped that he could calm her down with his love again. However, such a slaughter tragedy could not be forgiven because of an apology.

“Are you satisfied now? Crown Prince Yun.” This was the first time she called him Crown Prince Yun. It was also the first time he felt she had made up her mind.

“Xier, I had no choice.”

“After killing all my family, you tell me you had no choice. Don’t you think it is ridiculous?”

“Xier, I’m really sorry.”

“No, you are not wrong. I am too stupid to believe you, asshole.”

Meng Xi’s words sounded calm, but her calmness was something unpredictable. Crown Prince Yun didn’t know how to keep his girl. He was so afraid of losing her, so he talked to her cautiously.

“Xier, come back to my palace with me. I will love you more. I will give you all the love as your family and your lover. I promise I will only be good to you and protect you for the rest of my life.”

“Do you think that’s possible?”

Meng Xi picked up a knife on the ground and tried to stab herself. She moved very fast. However, Crown Prince Yun, who had been paying attention to her, reacted even faster. He hugged her, so the knife in her hand stabbed into his back. Blood flowed out. His blood was still warm, not as cold as the things he did today. It flew on her hand and mixed with the bloodstains of her family. However, it could never touch her heart again.

The girl would no longer have any sympathy for him. Her heart was numb with pain, and she would never feel sorry for him anymore. She pushed him away with all her strength. Meng Xi thought the knife with his blood was dirty, so she threw it away. She picked up another one, trying to end her life again. She didn’t want to have any relationship with him anymore, and she was tired of living. Meng Xi wanted to go to the underworld to apologize to her father.

Crown Prince Yun was stabbed and pushed away. His blood was still flowing out from the wound as other people went to support him immediately. He pushed them away and didn’t want others to touch him. He staggered and almost fell. Finally, he managed to steady himself. He endured the pain, feeling weak and dizzy. He said to Meng Xi, “Xier, if you die, I won’t spare any of your sisters.” He knew that this was the only way to save her life. He loved her so much that he couldn’t allow her to die.

Meng Xi was about to commit suicide, but she stopped as soon as he said so. The knife in her hand was thrown away. The girl wearing a soldier uniform with blood all over her body turned around. She looked at her poor sisters, who were arrested and crying. Deep guilt and nostalgia had haunted her. She turned her head and looked at Crown Prince Yun. She said word by word, “Bury my family decently.”

“Okay, I promise.”

“Your Highness, no! The Mengs are all treacherous criminals.”

As soon as Crown Prince Yun spoke, people started to oppose him immediately. However, Crown Prince Yun ignored them. He stared at Meng Xi and continued, “Xier, I will bury them decently. Follow me back to my palace. We can start over.”

The girl was like a person crawling out of the bloody hell at this moment. She was covered in blood, and her face was no longer as lively and beautiful as before. Looking like a walking corpse, she showed horror, despair, and coldness. Meng Xi didn’t commit suicide only for her sisters. She did not look at Crown Prince Yun, nor did she look at anyone present and her dead family. She went straight to the door and walked out of the mansion of the Mengs.

“The daughters of the Mengs should all work in brothels. I am willing to take the punishment and become a prostitute.”

Crown Prince Yun wanted to stop his beloved girl, but he had lost too much blood. He lost consciousness the moment she left. People were calling him worriedly. However, the only one voice he wanted to hear the most had disappeared. He fell into a coma.
