Chapter 317 The Surrendered One

Maybe it's been too long since I've seen a back like that.

She looked in that direction for a moment longer, before Zee came out of his room rubbing his eyes and jumped into her arms in a flash, "Mommy, where's Daddy."

The little one was still sleepy and hazy, his voice heavily nasal.

"Your daddy just came back in, but went out again." She wrapped her arms around Zee and gently rubbed his hair.

Zee just leaned into her arms, the scene seemed so cozy at the moment, "Mommy, is Daddy going to have to wait until school starts to pick me up again this time he's gone?"

"It won't." Thinking about the decision she had just made with Gu Jinchi, she couldn't help but smile and shake her head.

"Your daddy will come over tonight and have dinner with us, and your daddy will sleep here for the rest of the time, happy?"

"Really?" He lifted his head quickly from the embrace, but his brow quickly furrowed again as if his mood was low again, "Daddy didn't used to say that, but in the end it was all a lie."

"Mommy, don't lie to me."

He sounded frustrated, even if it was clear now that he had just been thrilled with the innocence and cheerfulness of a small child the moment he had heard that news.

"Mommy didn't lie to you." Her heart sank and she cradled his head and rubbed it tenderly.

"Daddy just said it himself, you don't believe Mommy, if your daddy isn't back on time tonight, we'll go to the office together and look for him, okay?"

Her heart was also vaguely looking forward to Gu Jinchi's return, not to mention anything else, but at least to let Xiao Ze know that his daddy wouldn't continue to lie.

"Then let's pull the hook, pull the hook and hang ourselves for a hundred years not to change ..." Ozawa was excited to pull the hook.

But after pulling the hook it occurred to me that the wrong person had pulled the hook, "I should have gotten up earlier to pull the hook with Daddy."

The little guy scratched his head, somewhat chagrined.

Looking at his little face wrinkled into a ball, Su Qinglan couldn't help but pinch the tip of his nose, "It's all the same, mommy will definitely take you to your daddy."

"Go wash your hands and eat something, then we'll wait for the sun to go down and have dinner with Daddy, okay?"

She coaxed gently, and Zee would be lying if she said she wasn't looking forward to it, being a gullible little kid in the end, nodding vigorously and humming a children's song before heading into the restroom.

She played with Zee from the end of dinner until the afternoon and again until the sun set.

Little Ze was still very excited and hyperactive and kept running around the house, "Yay, I get to eat with Mommy and Daddy today!"

But looking at the slowly darkening sky outside, a not-so-good feeling suddenly came over her.

As expected, the clock went on for another hour, Gu Jinchao didn't come back, and Xiao Ze's mood went down.

She really didn't understand Gu Jinchi, why did he say the words if he couldn't fulfill them? Because pretty words sound good?

But she couldn't ignore Xiao Ze's bright eyes, she looked at the dishes on the table that had already been warmed up by the nanny, and squatted down to rub his head, "Let's eat first, and then we'll go to daddy's company to look for him in a while, okay?"

"But ... I want to eat with daddy." Looking at the table full of food, Zee's mood was still low, but her stomach was rumbling.

Su Qinglan helplessly reached out and rubbed his stomach, "If you eat one less meal, you'll get shorter, what if you can't grow taller fast enough to protect mommy when the time comes?"

The words did work after all, and after watching Zee eagerly finish his meal, she complied by taking Zee with her as she drove to Gu's.

Nearly before she left the house, she also gave Gu Jinchi and An Nian a call, but there was no answer.

When she thought that it was not uncommon for them to have cross-country meetings, she didn't think much more of it.

Little Ze was still very excited about the fact that he was going to go with her to Gu to find his daddy, although she didn't know what the little guy was excited about.

But she smiled in relief to see him in high spirits.

When they reached Gu, they were stopped by the security guard, "Sorry, we are not allowed to visit without an invitation."

"Wait, I'll call ... them now." At the time of addressing Gu Jinchi, she got stuck for a moment and took Xiao Ze to the side.

This time her worried phone call connected, Gu Jinchi's voice was a bit tired, "I'm sorry Qinglan, there's no way I can go back for dinner today?"

Although she had already had a premonition, hearing this news still made her heart go cold, and the trust that had been so hard to build up collapsed once again.

She was okay with that, and after glancing at Zee next to her, she calmed herself, "Is it because of work? Or do you have to work late?"

"Ze wants to see you, we're downstairs at the office right now."

"Downstairs?" He couldn't help but be a little stunned, and after a moment of silence, he said, "I'm not at the office right now, I have some things to take care of outside, so you guys go back first, I'll make it back before I go to bed."

From the other side of the phone, she faintly heard something.

Just now, perhaps Gu Jinchi had blocked the earpiece, but vaguely, she was still able to hear Aunt He and Shirui's voices.

The pot of cool water suddenly became like an ice pick, piercing her heart a little.

Especially when she saw that Xiao Ze was still waiting with bated breath, the fire burned up, but she held it back and asked in a pretense of calmness, "Where are you now? Let's go pick you up together."

"I'm in another company right now to talk about things, it's not convenient, you tell Xiao Ze to be obedient, I'll be back soon, let's not talk about it for now." Almost just two hurried instructions, Gu Jinchi hung up the phone.

Zee looked over and lifted his head, his eyes were thick with loss, "Mommy, are we not going to see Daddy today."

As if the little guy had a premonition, she felt bad in her heart and was wondering how to explain when he stood up from one side and patted the dust on his body, "It's okay, I knew it already."

"Don't be sad mommy, it's because daddy is too busy, daddy would definitely eat with us if he wasn't busy."

The little guy knew enough to not only comfort himself, but still comfort her as well.

Without her having to say anything, Zee climbed into the backseat of the car all by herself and looked out the window after buckling her seatbelt.

The whole thing was quiet, a far cry from the vivaciousness of a moment ago.

Such an action made her heart feel as if an invisible boulder had been pressed on it, making her want to find Gu Jinchi out and beat him severely, then tell him not to make random promises to others if he couldn't do it.

To finalize what she had in mind, she took a look using the location message from Ozawa's parent-child cell phone.

As expected, Gu Jinchi was now at the Gu family home, and he even claimed that he was talking about business, which was really too disappointing for her.

When he got home, Zee, like a robot that had run out of power, went straight back to his little room and closed the door.

Whether he was washing and changing or sleeping in his bed, he was awfully quiet at the moment.

It's when little kids aren't making a fuss that it's most worrisome.

She pushed the door open and Zee's room was dark, "Zee?"

She called out softly, but there was no response.

By the light outside she sat on the edge of the bed and lowered her head to gently kiss Zee's head.

But on getting up, she still felt the wet sheets.

She didn't move to stand up and slowly closed the door to her room, but the touch of the bar was already calming her down.

Even now that it was getting late, she didn't have the slightest desire to sleep now, and only wanted to wait and see if Gu Jinchi would come back tonight as she had said the second time.

Unfortunately, from the time the moon was high overhead, until the sky turned fish-belly white the next day, there wasn't even a single bang on the door of the room.

She also didn't want to call to rush Gu Jinchi, she just wanted to see if any of the words that came out of his mouth were true, or if they were all lies depending on his mood.

Once again, he lied and deceived them.

The atmosphere was especially eerie and hushed during the quiet day in the small home.

But Xiao Ze's state was recovering nicely, fiddling with the toys again as if nothing had happened, but still cautiously testing her, "Mommy, will Daddy be back for dinner tonight?"

She was stunned, and the remaining fire in her heart was once again aroused, "Then let's call Daddy later and ask, okay?"

"Too grandpa has been sick lately, and perhaps your daddy has been too busy to sleep well." She coaxed softly as she gently ran her hand through Zee's short hair.

"Okay, I knew Daddy was just busy with something yesterday, he didn't lie right?" Ze tentatively sought for an answer.

After seeing her smile, he happily picked up his cell phone again and dialed Gu Jinchi's number, "Daddy, are you coming back for dinner today?"

The phone was put on speakerphone, and even Su Qinglan was able to hear it clearly.

"I've just finished shopping and I'm on my way back now, just a moment."

She couldn't help but be a little startled.

Gu Jinchi cared about the lyrics so much that it was rare to fulfill what she had said, even to the point that she couldn't believe it.

Maybe it's because it's been a disappointment before.

It was Ozawa, on the contrary, who shuttled between the kitchen and the dining room in high spirits.

Soon, there was a rattle from the door of the room, and Gu Jinchi and An Nian, who was carrying a large bag behind him, walked in.

"Daddy!" Xiao Ze shouted excitedly and quickly rushed over and hugged Gu Jinchi's neck, holding on tightly without letting go.

Gu Jinchi smiled and picked him up from the ground, gently patting his back, "I'm sorry, daddy broke his word yesterday and didn't come back to eat with you."

"That's okay." Ze smiled and shook his head, as if he had already forgotten about yesterday's unpleasantness, "Mommy said it's because Great Grandpa's in the hospital and Daddy's got a lot on his plate."

"So I can understand Daddy sacrificing the little for the big la."

"You still understand this?" Gu Jinchi smiled and answered, looking at Su Qinglan with a few more moments of puzzlement.
