New journey

"BANG!"

Jonathan pulled the trigger with his eyes closed. Within the time when Jonathan had his eyes closed before pulling the trigger, Aiden strided towards him and pulled his hand back.

But Aiden was late, the bullet still passed through the back of his head. Aiden couldn't manage to pull his hand to safe zone leading the bullet to pass through his lower head.

Just as the bullet passed through his head, his eyes went shot opened. He felt that pain, pain that was making it hard for him to take his breaths. He could feel the blood passing on his neck from his head. With the little sense he had remaining, he looked at the lady who made him crazy, the lady who changed him, the lady whom he claimed to love the most.

He saw her tears flowing down on her cheeks, that brought a small smile on his face. That was the moment he felt he wouldn't regret his decision even if he dies out of all the pain he's having. His vision turned blur, he saw her figure disappearing behind the drop of tears formed in his eyes. And at the end, his body lost all the strength and ended up falling on the land with a thud.

"Nooo!" Helena screamed closing her eyes tight. She could hear the footsteps moving around but was too scared to see the scene in front of her.

"He's still alive! I can still feel his pulse rate!" She heard a voice, that made her heartbeat raise. She was scared to see him but a hope started lingering in her heart.

"Let's take him to the hospital, right now!" She heard Aiden's loud voice. Soon she heard the siren of an ambulance and movement of people. She knew he was being taken to the hospital and the urge to see him increased in her heart. She was feeling scared if she won't be able to see him again and that she would regret not looking at him when she could.

"Helena" she felt Aiden's palm on her shoulder which boosted her confidence. She slowly opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was Jonathan being carried towards the ambulance in stretcher right in front of her eyes. She saw the white cloth stained with his blood coming out from his head.

"Let's go. We need to reach to hospital." Aiden knew she was disturbed but saving him was important right now. He wanted to kill Jonathan with his own hands and was boiling when he placed the gun on his own temples. But then he moved forward to save him when he saw Helena's condition. He knew she'd always blame herself if he dies today. He had already observed the hint of guilt in her eyes although she was not the one to be blamed. He would do every thing today to save Jonathan, just for Helena's sake.

He patted on her back for a while until she became a bit stable. Jonathan was driven on the ambulance ahead while Aiden started driving on his car behind with Helena sitting on the passenger seat praying to her God all the time to keep him safe. She didn't love him at all but after getting to know his story, she could feel what pain he had to go through and how hard it would've been for him. She had not wished bad for even the ones who had hurt her, how could she wish death for him?

Jonathan was taken to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. The doctors didn't delay on doing his operation after Aiden completed all the formalities.

After three whole hours of waiting, the doctor finally walked out of the operation theatre with his medical team. "The bullet had passed through his cerebellum which made it hard for us to operate. But thankfully we did it. Although the operation went successful, we still can't say anything about it. He'll be kept under observation for a day. If he gets conscious within this period of time, it'd be a good news. But if he doesn't...."

Doctor's change in words and expression made Helena impatient. "What if he doesn't doctor?" Doctor took a deep breath before answering to her question. "He might undergo coma if he doesn't come back to senses soon or the situation may turn even worst."

The doctor left after completing his words leaving Aiden, Helena and the chief commander behind. The three of them waited for him till the sun set down.

"Mr. Aiden, you should go back to home with your wife. He's our responsibility. I and my team will be staying here to guard him. I'll inform you if there's anything." Aiden and Helena drove back to their home with silence following them everywhere. They had dinner in silence. The family knew about the incident so they decided not to talk about it and make the situation awkward.

Aiden couldn't hold on more so he walked towards Helena who was standing near the window and carried her to the bed. "I'm sorry." She said as soon as Aiden pulled her close to himself. "I know I'm making you worried but I can't help it. His face is coming in front of my eyes all the time." Aiden didn't say anything for a while, instead he started rubbing her back.

"Baby, get one thing clear. Whatever happened or whatever is happening right now isn't your fault. He had committed crimes for which he had to get punished one day for sure. Instead of surrendering for his crime, he chose the next way and now he's fighting for his life. I don't know what life has planned for him, all we can do is pray for him. But promise me, you won't blame yourself no matter what comes in future."

His words helped her to relax a bit, she promised Aiden not to blame herself. But she would definitely not get ease until he'd come into consciousness. The next day, all of them were waiting for him to wake up or show some signs of improvement for the least but he didn't. Days passed by, it was the third day of him being kept under observation when Aiden, Helena and the commander chief were having conversation with the doctor in his cabin.

"He should've responded earlier but he's still the same. I'm scared we won't be able to do anything if he doesn't come back to senses very soon."

The doctor's words made them lose their confidence but they couldn't give up till the end. Aiden decided to take Helena to office and resume the work so that she will be able to take those things out of her mind. Helena agreed to him as she needed a break from everything as well.

It was the sixth day from Jonathan's case, Aiden and Helena were busy on their individual work on their office when Aiden got a phone call. He packed up everything and walked towards Helena. "Wifey, let's go. He's now conscious."

With Aiden driving on the maximum speed, they reached to the hospital within ten minutes. The commander was already sitting next to Jonathan when they both entered the cabin. Helena was relived to see him conscious but what Jonathan said next shocked all three of them in the cabin.

"Woh! Two more people in the room. Do you guys also know me like this old man is saying?" Jonathan asked pointing out to the commander.

"Jonathan..."

"Huh? Why are you calling me with that name? Wait, is that my name?"

"Wh.. what are you saying?" Helena couldn't understand what went wrong. He wasn't behaving like the arrogant man he was like earlier, in fact he had that beautiful smile and confusion plastered on his face all the time. Aiden got hint of what might have happened with him.

"We shall go and meet the doctor." After Aiden's initiation, the three of them walked to the doctor leaving Jonathan behind with a nurse.

"As the bullet had passed through the cerebellum of his brain, he has lost his memory."

"What do you mean? Doesn't he remember anything? Like anything? Not even his identity?" The commander asked to the doctor.

"No, he's lost every single bit of memory and he's blank. We got the reports, his brain is seriously injured and I'm afraid he will never get his memories back. It would be a wonder if he could ever get his memories back."

That was some thing which they had never expected to happen, but Aiden was still not sure about it. He didn't want to take risk, so he asked his trusted doctors to check upon him under several trials but the results were same; all of the doctors declared loss of memory.

But even though he remembered nothing, the fact that he had to be punished under the law couldn't be denied. That day when he was to be taken to the jail, Aiden and Helena came to see him and the commander.

Aiden looked at Jonathan who was totally unaware of everything happening around him. He suddenly didn't have any more grudges with Jonathan, he was already living a miserable life to pay for his deeds.

"Commander, I have a request for you. Please don't let him know about his past by any chance. It's good that he forgot his past in a way, I believe he'd be able to start a new chapter of his life now on. I believe you saw that guilt on his eyes when he shot himself, pushing him back to the same past would not be right. I hope you understand." Helena was proud of her husband, he had found a new way to see things which helped her to overcome the situation as well. Maybe he was right, surviving with guilt and burdened past would've been much harder for him.

"Why are you cuffing me? Why is the police here?" Helena and Aiden rushed to the ward when they heard Jonathan shouting. He was struggling when his eyes fell upon them holding a ray of hope.

"Please, do you know why are they taking me to jail?" Helena was speechless, she didn't know what to answer to him.

"That is because you were living in prison since a long time. You were taken to hospital when you had some health emergency." Aiden came in front to handle the situation but Jonathan was still not satisfied.

"But why was I in jail?"

"You tried to help someone and you fell in trap instead. You did a crime when you were actually trying to help someone. That's the reason."

Jonathan calmed down after listening to Aiden. "Really, is that so?" He seemed to believe on his words, he didn't struggle and started following the police to the police van. But before he was about to get into the van, he turned around to look at both of them.

"Why did you come to see me? Do I know you, do I have something to do with you?" Helena smiled at him before answering, "we just felt you were good human."

That answer from her subconsciously led Jonathan to smile. He got inside the van and the van drove away towards a new journey awaiting for him.
