Chapter 13 Seeing Through at a Glance

Gao Haisheng shouted, "I am an authority in cardiopulmonary disease! I am an expert! I can assure you that no one can cure Mr. He's illness."

"Your so-called expertise means nothing to me," Ye Bufan retorted. "I can tell you for sure, no one else can cure Mr. He's illness, but traditional Chinese medicine can, and I can!"

Gao Haisheng burst into laughter at Ye Bufan's words, looking disdainful. "What a joke, this is the funniest thing I've heard in my life! If traditional Chinese medicine could cure illnesses, pigs would fly!"

Upon hearing this man once again disparage traditional Chinese medicine, Ye Bufan frowned. "Are you willing to make a bet with me? If I can cure Mr. He's illness, you publicly apologize to traditional Chinese medicine across China. If I lose, this check is yours."

He presented the million-dollar check he had obtained from Hundred Herbs Hall.

Gao Haisheng shook his head, saying, "Mr. He's condition is already beyond hope, such a bet is meaningless."

"How about it? Are you afraid?" Ye Bufan challenged.

Being confronted by a young man in his twenties like this angered Gao Haisheng. "Since you're so ignorant, let me teach you a lesson. If I lose, not only will I publicly apologize to traditional Chinese medicine in a reputable publication in China, but I'll also give you 1 million."

"Deal," Ye Bufan agreed, then turned to hand the check to He Tianqi. "Please, Mr. Qiming, act as our witness."

He then started walking toward He Changqing's bedside, but He Shuangshuang blocked his path. "Stop right there. You're not allowed to touch my grandpa. He's not a tool for your bet."

Ye Bufan furrowed his brow. "I'm here to treat your grandpa."

"I don't need it. I don't trust you. I'll contact WMA's experts again for my grandpa's illness," He Shuangshuang insisted.

Cao Xinghua stepped forward. "Shuangshuang, Bufan is indeed an excellent traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. Please trust him."

"He Shuangshuang said, 'Grandpa Cao, I only trust you in traditional Chinese medicine. I don't believe he can cure illnesses that you can't.'"

Since the bet had been made, Ye Bufan couldn't back down. To make the stubborn girl believe in him, he proposed, "How about this? I'll diagnose Mr. He first. If I'm correct, you let me through. If I'm wrong, I'll leave."

He Shuangshuang retorted, "My grandpa is critically ill now. You can't touch him."

"No problem. In traditional Chinese medicine, we follow the 'inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and pulse-taking and palpation' approach. Through inspection, I can also determine his condition," Ye Bufan explained confidently.

Having thoroughly understood He Changqing's condition already, he continued, "Mr. He sustained a gunshot wound to his left lung when he was young. Though not severe, inadequate recovery led to lingering issues. In recent years, his frequent alcohol consumption, coupled with exposure to cold, exacerbated his pulmonary condition."

He Shuangshuang's expression changed. She hadn't expected his description to be so accurate, matching Mr. He's condition precisely. However, she remained obstinate. "Enough talk. What's his current condition?"

"His condition is very severe now. The lung markings are thickened, the left costophrenic angle is blunt, there's thickening and adhesion of the right pleura, and there's accompanying fluid accumulation. There's old pulmonary tuberculosis in the upper left lung with restricted movement and tendency towards atrophy of lung lobes. Most importantly, there's worsening fibrosis in the lungs..."

Gao Haisheng couldn't believe his ears when Ye Bufan finished speaking. He never expected the young man's description to match his own findings from the medical tests so accurately.

He Shuangshuang, shocked, said, "I know! Grandpa Cao must have told you about my grandpa's condition, that's why you know so much."

Ye Bufan stopped Cao Xinghua, who seemed about to defend him, and smiled, saying, "Since you still don't believe me, let's try another approach. Let me tell you about your own health."

He glanced at He Shuangshuang, his face showing a hint of mockery. "Overall, your health is decent. You've been practicing martial arts since childhood, with a scar on your right leg and an injury to your left arm. You experience soreness in your left chest, where there's a lump indicating hyperplasia. Additionally, due to improper care for your body during martial arts training over the years, you've accumulated coldness in your body, leading to menstrual cramps. You had an episode just two hours ago..."

"You... Shut up!"

Although Ye Shuangshuang was outspoken and carefree, she couldn't bear having her privacy exposed in public. Internally, she was also shocked. If Grandpa Cao possibly informed Ye Bufan about her grandfather's condition, she had never revealed her own health issues to anyone. How could he know?

He Tianqi and Gao Haisheng were both astonished, their mouths gaping. While they were unfamiliar with He Shuangshuang's health, her reaction confirmed Ye Bufan's accuracy. The ability to see through others' conditions at a glance was beyond human imagination. Did he have X-ray vision in his eyes?

Cao Xinghua, relatively composed, wasn't too surprised. How could the successor of Revival Nine Needles be ordinary?

Seeing He Shuangshuang standing there in shock, Ye Bufan just smiled faintly, paying no further attention. He went around to the bedside and began treating He Changqing, taking out silver needles and swiftly inserting over a dozen of them into He Changqing's chest acupoints.

Once the needles were in, their tips trembled incessantly, as if they were fitted with electric motors, never pausing for a moment.

"Revival Nine Needles! This is truly the technique of Revival Nine Needles. He has a chance now!" Cao Xinghua watched from the side. Though he couldn't use Revival Nine Needles himself, he had read many accounts and immediately recognized Ye Bufan's technique.

Initially, he might have had some doubts, but now he was completely convinced. Seeing this legendary needle technique in his lifetime made him feel fulfilled, even if he died immediately after.

He Tianqi noticed his reaction and asked in surprise, "Uncle Cao, what's so special about Revival Nine Needles?"

Cao Xinghua calmed down his excitement and said, "Revival Nine Needles is the supreme acupuncture technique recorded in ancient Chinese medical texts, rightfully earning its title as the divine needle. It encompasses the pinnacle of acupuncture and moxibustion techniques. The nine needles represent the summary of nine different acupuncture methods, including nourishing qi, strengthening tendons, fortifying bones, promoting circulation... and even body reshaping and revival of the soul.

In legend, the Revival Nine Needles are said to have the ability to revive even the dead, with metaphors like bringing back the soul and leaving Death helpless.”

He Tianqi exclaimed excitedly at Cao Xinghua's words, "Really? Does that mean there's hope for my father's illness?"

"Is it really that miraculous?"

He Shuangshuang, coming back to her senses, muttered quietly. She felt Cao Xinghua's description was exaggerated, but deep down, she still hoped her grandfather could be cured. So, she didn't say much and focused intently on watching Ye Bufan perform the Revival Nine Needles technique.
