Chapter 8 Prey

Wen Ran didn't know Yan Wangshu had solved more than half of their problems in the past ten minutes.

When Yan Wangshu left, his gaze swept past Wen Ran. Although he didn't stay long, it made Wen Ran's heart tremble slightly, and even her eyelashes trembled.

When Yan Wangshu passed, Wen Ran stepped aside a little and smelled the cedary on his body.

She comforted herself, "Take things as they come."

After Chen Xing sat down, she apologized to Mrs. Wong and accompanied her to choose the raw stones.

Wen Ran ran back and forth. Mrs. Wong failed to pick out the raw stone she liked, and her expression became pale.

In the end, she left resentfully.

As soon as Mrs. Wong left, Li Wan ran over.

She wore no makeup, so her face didn't look good. However, she wore bright red lipstick, which made her look okay.

No one knew how long she had been waiting next to them.

Li Wan bowed and apologized repeatedly, "Ms. Chen, I ate the wrong thing last night and had diarrhea. I was injected in the hospital all night."

Chen Xing did not understand her words. Instead, she asked in a harsh tone, "Were you in a coma when you were on an IV drip?"

Chen Xing was usually indifferent, but she had never lost her temper. This was the first time that Wen Ran had seen her like this.

Li Wan lowered her head and said in an aggrieved and choked voice, "I'm sorry, I...I just thought that I could arrive on time. I don't know why the road from the hospital to the company is particularly blocked. I've already..."

"Do you think you can come here on time?" Chen Xing stopped Li Wan from finishing her sentence. "Then can you do it?"

Chen Xing didn't want to hear the reason.

She had no obligation to listen.

Logically speaking, only results matter in the workplace, not the process.

Li Wan paused, lowered her head, and apologized again.

Chen Xing didn't look happy, but a few colleagues from other departments were around. She didn't blame Li Wan and said, "Take Wen Ran to the warehouse."

"Okay, Ms. Chen."

After Chen Xing left, Li Wan wiped the tears.

She walked forward and said, "Come here, Wen Ran. I'll teach you how to store the materials in the warehouse."

To store the raw materials was to confirm the raw stones the client had just chosen back to the original place.

Li Wan was very experienced and explained every step very clearly.

After Li Wan signed the document, the staff of the stone depot said, "Wait a minute. I still need to confirm them."

Li Wan nodded and sat weakly in Mrs. Wong's seat.

She slowly lowered her head, as if she was crying again.

Wen Ran just sat quietly by the side and waited. Everyone knew that it was time to avoid the tears of an adult and be polite.

During this period, a slim receptionist took away the dessert and cups left on the table without saying a word.

After a while, Li Wan's cell phone rang. Li Wan took it out to look and quickly walked to the outermost French window to answer the phone.

Wen Ran looked over and noticed Li Wan had an IV drip stuck in her hand.

Li Wan staggered as she spoke, dizzy and unable to stand still. She took two steps back and leaned against the wall.

Wen Ran ran over in a hurry, and Li Wan was already squatting on the carpet.

Li Wan held her forehead with one hand and tried to control her emotions in the receiver. "Mom, I'm really fine. It's really, just ordinary gastroenteritis...I had breakfast this morning...I asked for leave today and didn't go to the company. I want to sleep a little longer...Okay, I know, I'll take good care of myself..."

Then, Li Wan hung up the phone. She pressed her head against her knees, and her shoulders were twitching slightly.

Wen Ran originally wanted to help her up, but at this point she was in a dilemma and didn't know whether she should go up or not.

Li Wan was the first to raise her head. "Can you give me a tissue? Thank you."

Wen Ran turned around, took two printed tissues from a small golden plate, and handed them to Li Wan.

Li Wan sniffed and then stood up.

The luxurious scene of the exhibition hall was reflected on the floor-to-ceiling window, and it was clear outside the window.

However, Li Wan felt that she was so down. She looked out of the French window and said, "I had planned the infusion time, but I wanted to go to the company early to get prepared, so I sped up the infusion speed. In the end, I couldn't take in any. I left before the infusion was over, but I was still late."

People who were sick were particularly vulnerable.

Hearing Li Wan's words, Wen Ran waited for her to wipe away her snot before saying, "In fact, when you were in the car and knew that you would be late, you could have called your colleagues first and let everyone have time to prepare for it. On the contrary, when Mrs. Wong arrived, no one could contact you. So there was nothing they could have done."

Li Wan turned around and looked at Wen Ran in surprise with red eyes.

In addition to expressing her grievances, Li Wan also wanted this seemingly gentle girl to comfort her.

But Wen Ran didn't. She was logically analyzing this matter, which should have happened.

Li Wan pursed her lips. She did have time to call the company, but she didn't. Later, when her colleague called, she heard it, but she deliberately didn't answer it.

She held that hope inside her heart that Mrs. Wong could wait for her. When she arrived, the project might still be hers.

Li Wan thought of her mother, who was far away in her hometown, and Chen Xing's attitude toward her. She closed her eyes and choked with sobs, "Yes, I don't want to miss this opportunity. I deserve it. I don't deserve anyone's understanding and pity. I have to pay for my actions, right?"

“...”

Li Wan was not venting her anger on Wen Ran, but her tone was indeed aggressive. She apologized to Wen Ran in a low voice, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..."

Wen Ran shook her head to show that she was fine. She turned around, took out two pieces of tissues, and handed them to Li Wan, "I think you should find a way to solve the problem first."

Wen Ran felt that since it had already happened, there was no point in having unnecessary emotional consumption. It was better to solve the problem first.

"Solve it?" Li Wan shook her head and felt that it was a done deal. "There's no other way. Miss Chen..."

Li Wan wanted to say something but stopped on second thought. She looked at Wen Ran.

Wen Ran had a gentle face and clear eyes. The sunlight outside the French windows shone on her face, and her skin was so clear that even her pores could not be seen.

Li Wan had a special feeling for Wen Ran, which she had never had for others since she joined the company.

There was more or less competition between colleagues. It seemed that they had a good relationship, but everybody was just following the social etiquette in the workplace.

However, Wen Ran was different. It was as if she had broken free from the competitive workplace and was analyzing the situation for Li Wan with no distracting thoughts, seriousness, and rationality.

Li Wan began to calm down and analyzed the current situation with Wen Ran sincerely.

Li Wan rubbed the tissue in her hand and asked, "Do you know why our department has the worst future?"

Wen Ran shook her head in confusion at the change of topic.

Li Wan said, "Miss. Chen's ability is actually not inferior to that of the other team leaders, but she is less competitive and unwilling to compete for good projects and maintain interpersonal relationships. Therefore, most of the projects in our team have been left over by the other two teams."

“...”

"I heard that Mr. Yan is also here today. Miss Chen...She won't plead for me."

Wen Ran finally understood what Li Wan was thinking..

Li Wan felt that the only way to solve the problem at this point was to let Chen Xing put in a good word for her or protect her.

Li Wan sniffed and said, "I should leave Carlyle."

Wen Ran had different thoughts. "I think it's better for you to work hard yourself rather than putting your hopes on others."

"What do you mean?"

"Mrs. Wong didn't pick up any raw stones today. If you get her on your side, there should be a turning point."

"But Mrs. Wong..." Li Wan could finish her words. She actually wanted to say Mrs. Wong was too difficult to handle.

But now that things had come to this, it seemed that there was no other way.

Li Wan nodded and said thoughtfully, "I'll try."

After a while, the staff of the stone depot confirmed it and came over with a tablet computer. "Ms. Li, please sign it up."

Li Wan signed the contract with an electronic pen. After taking two steps, she felt dizzy. Fortunately, Wen Ran quickly held her up.

"There's no hurry. You'd better go to the hospital first."

Li Wan refused, "That's because I had diarrhea last night and didn't have breakfast this morning."

“...”

"I'll just go to the cafe to eat a Beiguo later."

Wen Ran didn't try to persuade her.

Li Wan was going to the cafe to eat and invited Wen Ran to join her. Wen Ran said that she wanted to stay a little longer.

Wen Ran hadn't had a good look when she came in just now. She couldn't come here at any time.

Li Wan pointed to the receptionists next to them and reminded Li Wan, "You have to go out when you see that they are almost ready."

Wen Ran nodded.

The jewelry on the left side of the exhibition hall was all haute joallerie of the company, which Wen Ran had seen in magazines. Wen Ran was not very interested in it. She just hurriedly felt its colorful light and details with her eyes.

Further forward were some pictures of jewelry.

The jewelry in the exhibition was at the collection level, and it was necessary to make an appointment in advance to see the real thing.

Wen Ran was more interested in them.

She saw the blood-red ruby ring made of pigeon's blood from Burma, the unburned sapphire necklace made in Sri Lanka, the emerald-green cutting diamond ring, and so on.

What surprised Wen Ran the most was a pearl necklace.

The necklace was made up of 115 round pearls and 7 water-drop-shaped pearls, with an old mine-shaped diamond weighing about 7 carats inlaid on the back.

Wen Ran bent down slightly to observe the details of the pearl necklace.

When Yan Wangshu and Qin Xiao came out of the stone depot, there were no receptionists in the hall.

The huge exhibition hall was full of dazzling light.

Gemstones, diamonds, crystals, and light.

Wen Ran was wearing a white shirt and a pair of light-colored jeans. Her waist was as thin as a pair of arms, and she wore a pair of light pink heels.

Wen Ran bent down slightly, and the bow knot on her collar swayed in front of her chest. Her slim jeans outlined her round and beautiful buttocks.

Qin Xiao clasped a thick stack of documents with his arm and was speaking.

Yan Wangshu suddenly stopped and said in a soft tone, as if he was talking to himself, "It's been three times."

Qin Xiao still heard Yan Wangshu say 'three times'. He quickly flipped through the paper in his hand and said, "Mr. Yan, this...should be the second time."

Yan Wangshu smiled faintly and said, "Go back to the office first."

"I haven't finished sorting out these things yet."

However, Qin Xiao did not ask any more questions. After working for Yan Wangshu for so many years, he knew what to do.

Qin Xiao closed the folder and took two steps forward. From the corner of his eyes, he saw a woman next to the showcase. She looked like a fresh graduate intern. He didn't know which department she was from. Why was she still here after all the clients had left?

Just as he was about to go over, his heart skipped a beat, and he turned to look in the direction of Yan Wangshu.

His boss was standing not far away, with his arms crossed in front of his chest, looking at the "intern" with a smile.

A smile on his face?

Yan Wanshu wasn't someone who liked to smile.

Qin Xiao was taken aback but when Yan Wangshu shifted his gaze, he quickly turned and fled.

He remembered that he had made a mistake on the way to bid last time, and his heart had been in his mouth.

But at that time, his legs were still under the control of his brain.

Unlike now, he felt that his legs had self-awareness and were performing on their own, and his mind was full of the look of his boss staring at his prey.
