Chapter 24 The Illusion of Mutual Love

Listening to the sound of a car engine starting downstairs, Su Youqing grabbed the teacup on the bedside table and slammed it against the wall, clenching her fists so tightly that her nails dug deeply into her flesh.

“Ji Xiao!”

Su Youqing's eyes were filled with hatred.

It started raining shortly after I got home. After I went back home and took a shower, the rain got heavier and heavier, and the bedroom windows were crackling with raindrops.

Ji Xiao stood by the window looking outside, the lights of a car shone on her eyes. After a moment, she looked at the car again and her heart skipped a beat.

This car...

Why does it seem to be his?

Raindrops slid down the window, quickly blocking her view.

What are you thinking? How could it be him?

He is either in the old house or with Su Youqing. How could he appear here in the middle of the night?

Ji Xiao almost felt ridiculous for his absurd idea, but he also felt obvious disappointment in his heart.

What a lack of ambition.

Just as I was about to draw the curtains, my sight suddenly caught a figure and my heart began to beat wildly.

No matter when or where, she can always recognize Gu Jin's figure at a glance!

He didn't hold an umbrella, his tall and straight body just stood there.

What does he want to do?

Mom was already asleep, so Ji Xiao tiptoed to the living room to find an umbrella and ran downstairs in his slippers.

The car lights were still flashing, Ji Xiao walked closer and closer, until he saw Gu Jin standing next to him, his heart trembling faster.

“Why are you here?”

Ji Xiao walked over, raised his hand and held the umbrella over his head.

The umbrella was a little small, so the two of them had to get close together. They had just kissed passionately in the afternoon, and now just by being scented by his scent, Ji Xiao felt a little weak.

Gu Jin didn't say anything, but just looked at her with his dim eyes.

“Gu Jin?”

He was a little tall, and Ji Xiao had been holding the umbrella, so his arms were a little numb.

Gu Jin held Ji Xiao's hand holding the umbrella and lent her some strength.

“cold.”

The voice was low, yet somewhat gentle.

The hand holding her was too cold. Ji Xiao pursed her lips and lowered her eyes. “You know it's cold, why don't you go home quickly? Why are you here so late?”

“You left something at the old house.” As he said that, Gu Jin raised his other hand. In his hand was the hat that Ji Xiao wore when he went there. He had been holding it in his hand and it was now soaked.

Gu Jin pondered, standing at the door in the heavy rain late at night just to give him a hat?

Ji Xiao took the wet hat.

“ Here's the umbrella. I'll take the hat. You can go home quickly.”

As she said this, she tried to let go of his hand but he held it tighter.

“I'm cold and can't drive.”

“What if you can't drive? Then you sleep in the car?”

Gu Jin shook his head and looked up at Ji Xiao's window where the light was still on.

......

Three minutes later, Ji Xiao was silent as she looked at Gu Jin, who was wearing her pink slippers and sitting on her bed.

“You sleep on the floor and I'll sleep on the bed. My mom has to go to the hospital for a follow-up visit tomorrow morning. You can leave when my mom is not around.”

Ji Xiao took out a quilt from the cupboard and spread it on the floor, and also put his favorite teddy bear pillow on the floor. After tidying up, he met Gu Jin's gaze, and his heart tightened. He couldn't help but take a step back, and stuck to his side somewhat stiffly.

“You want me, the young master of the Gu family, to sleep on the floor?”

“Then, then you sleep on the bed and I sleep on the floor?” Ji Xiao asked tentatively.

Gu Jin narrowed his eyes and said, “The bed is big enough for two people to lie down.”

“I'm not used to sharing a bed with someone else.”

The man seemed not to have heard what she said and continued, “Do you want to come here by yourself, or do you want me to carry you over?”

Ji Xiao looked up at him, hesitated for a moment, then picked up the little bear on the ground and climbed onto the bed.

The smile in Gu Jin's eyes deepened.

The two of them were lying flat on the bed with a little bear between them.

“Ji Xiao.”

Ji Xiao wasn't asleep to begin with, and when she heard Gu Jin calling her name, she responded subconsciously.

“I'm hungry.”

“Aren't you full from all the food tonight?”

“I’m not full.”

This is also true. During the meal, I was so busy watching her flirting with Jiang Yi that I didn't eat much at all.

“Order takeout.”

Ji Xiao turned around, curled up and turned his head inward.

The little bear behind him was grabbed by the ears and carried away by someone.

Her back touched the man's warm chest. His hand passed through her waist and gently fell on her lower abdomen. Gu Jin's teeth gently bit her earlobe.

“I want to eat what you cook.”

“I don't know how to cook.” Ji Xiao continued to close his eyes, but his heart trembled even more violently.

“You can. My mother told me that you learned it for me.”

This is true. Before getting married, Ji Xiao had taken a cooking class and did quite well. Mrs. Gu said the food was delicious, but Gu Jin had never had the pleasure to eat it.

Pulling away his increasingly restless hand, Ji Xiao covered her pounding heart and quickly sat up from the bed.

“Then stay in the room and don't go out. I'll get you something to eat.”

Then Ji Xiao decided to make him a bowl of noodles, instant noodles, and added two vegetables and an egg at most.

It's not that there are no other things in the refrigerator, but she was afraid that the noise would wake up her mother. She already disliked Gu Jin because of their divorce. If she saw Gu Jin in her room, wouldn't it be even more difficult to explain?

Stirring the noodles in the pot, her face turned even redder when she thought of Gu Jin's whispers in her ear just now.

“Instant noodles?”

Gu Jin put his arms around Ji Xiao's waist from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder.

“It smells good.”

For some reason, Ji Xiao felt that his behavior today was very abnormal. Such intimate behavior always gave her an illusion.

The illusion of mutual affection.

The cooked noodles were served and Gu Jin started eating without being picky. He stood in the kitchen.

The kitchen is so small that two people can fill it up standing alone.

Ji Xiao looked at the pink slippers on Gu Jin's feet, half of the heel was exposed, and it was pale from the cold.

“43 yards.”

“Ah?” Ji Xiao didn't understand.

“I wear a size 43. I can prepare some slippers here in the future. Um, pajamas can also be prepared.”

???

What does this mean? Is he planning to live here permanently?

After he finished eating, Ji Xiao was washing dishes in the kitchen while Gu Jin was wandering around the living room.

When Ji Xiao finished washing the dishes and went out, he saw Gu Jin staring at the wall in a daze.

Hanging on the wall was a photo of their family of three. In the photo, Ji Xiao was just a little girl, probably in her early teens.

“My dad was so busy that this was the only photo I could show him after the accident.”

Gu Jin turned his head and saw the woman leaning against the wall with a peaceful look on her face.

“When did we meet?”

Gu Jin frowned. He tried to recall it carefully, but he couldn't remember it. It was as if he didn't know when a little tail suddenly appeared behind him.

“When I was fifteen, I went to attend my uncle's birthday party. I got lost in the back garden of the banquet villa and squatted on the ground crying. You took me out.”

So, sometimes feelings are very magical.

She liked him, perhaps just because he wore her favorite white shirt that day, or perhaps because of the warmth of his palm when they held hands that day.

This love lasted for eight years.
