Chapter 2 Did You Fail the Exam?

The invigilator's words were directed at Wen Ying.

The teacher perceived himself as rescuing a candidate lacking strong determination.

Wen Ying was stunned.

She had dreamed of taking the high school entrance exam many times, but she had never dreamed that she would finish the test paper, let alone the following plot... This dream was really strange. Placing her hand on her forehead, Wen Ying could feel the heat causing her anxiety.

The dream was so clear. Was she really dreaming?

She stood up at once.

"Whatcha doing?"

The invigilator was so anxious that he even spoke out the dialect.

"Teacher, I'll hand in the paper."

Wen Ying was no longer thinking about the exam. She wanted to leave the examination room as soon as possible.

Her actions attracted the attention of other students.

What an outstanding student she was, submitting her paper so promptly!

Even if she finished all the questions, she should check them several times!

The invigilator looked at his watch and said, "No, sit down. It's not time to hand in the papers yet. If you don't want to take the exam, just sleep on the desk. Don't disturb others!"

It was not time to hand in the papers?

Wen Ying could no longer remember the exact time.

Was it an hour after the exam, or half an hour before the end of the exam?

She took this dream a little seriously.

It didn't matter if it was indeed a dream.

She was the dreamer. She could go wherever she wanted.

The invigilator couldn't stop her. Even if her mother, Chen Ru, came, would listen to her obediently in this dream!

If the dream turned out to be a reality and she failed to adhere to the examination guidelines, her score could potentially become invalid...

Wen Ying slowly sat down with a bitter smile on her face.

She thought she was strong enough, but in her dreams, she still showed vulnerability. The failure in the 2004 high school entrance exam was indeed her obsession. Finally, when it was time to hand in the paper, Wen Ying was the first to rush out of the classroom. She was not feeling well and stumbled.

The invigilator shook his head secretly.

This student was too impetuous, and her mind was not on the exam at all.

Parents spent a lot of money on their children to go to school. Nowadays, children couldn't suffer at all.

The invigilator put away the paper of Wen Ying, but when he turned the paper over, he was stunned.

It was difficult to determine whether Wen Ying answered the other questions accurately or not, but her command of English writing had surpassed that of a junior high school student in terms of sentence structure and vocabulary.

Wen Ying stumbled out of the classroom.

She was also very familiar with this school.

The high school entrance exam messed up the ranking of all the students in the county and city, and reorganized their examination ID numbers. Wen Ying happened to be assigned to her own school, thus returning to her primary school.

Wen Ying recognized the path and headed towards the school gate, following her memory. Chen Ru noticed her from afar.

"Wen Ying?Wen Ying?"

Chen Ru held an umbrella with one hand and looked at her watch. She found it almost unbelievable when she realized that that Wen Ying handed in the test paper so early.

Chen Ru had lost all sense of grace and elegance at this point.

Ignoring the fact that many parents were waiting outside the school gate, Chen Ru scolded Wen Ying harshly.

Other parents could totally understand Chen Ru.

If their children were so annoying, they would scold them as well.

The high school entrance exam was so important. How could this little girl hand in her paper so early? Could she get a high score?

Even if she felt that the test was simple, she should check the answer several times.

It was no wonder that her parents would scold her for her lackadaisical attitude.

Wen Ying pondered that the reprimand had been delivered earlier than expected.

As far as she could remember, she fainted as soon as she walked out of the examination room. Her mother was in a hurry to send her to the hospital and didn't even have a chance to ask her about her performance in the English test.

Her mom's anger really didn't erupt until after the high school entrance exam scores were released.

She got 91 points!

Wen Ying's English score not only pulled down the total scores of her high school entrance exam, but also made Chen Ru ashamed to go out. Wen Dongrong often praised his daughter, Wen Ying, for her good English, and some of his colleagues flattered him, saying that Wen Ying would be able to go to a foreign language school in the future. In 2004, Li Yang's Crazy English was on trend, and he traveled all over the country to give speeches, popularizing the concept of learning English to the people. So, even if Wen Ying's family was in a small city under the jurisdiction of Rongcheng City, the concept of learning English well had been deeply rooted in people's hearts.

Wen Ying had always been good at English, which made Wen Dongrong hear a lot of flattery from others.

However, after the results of the high school entrance exam were released, those flattery transformed into sardonic gossip, causing Wen Dongrong to experience a loss of prestige.

During the summer vacation of 2004, Wen Ying was unable to go anywhere as she was compelled to stay at her aunt's residence in Rongcheng City by Chen Ru and Wen Dongrong. She took English tuition classes at her aunt's house for more than a month!

Even if she was not at home, Wen Ying could not escape the punishment of Chen Ru and Wen Dongrong. The couple would called Wen Ying, who was in Rongcheng City then, thrice daily to inquire about the efficacy of her tutoring. Furthermore, they would bring up the matter of her scoring 91 points in English in the high school entrance exam.

Chen Ru even told Wen Ying the favors they would have to request and the amount the family would need to contribute in order for her to attend high school.

While it is not impossible to share such information with children, there should be a more appropriate approach to doing so. Even after countless years, Wen Ying still recalled the anxiety she felt while attending that particular high school.

As Wen Ying contemplated this, she began to feel increasingly lightheaded.

"Mom, please scold me later. I think I have a fever!"

Wen Ying interrupted Chen Ru's scold.

Chen Ru was obviously stunned.

She touched the forehead of Wen Ying and found that it was really hot.

Upon closer inspection, she noticed that Wen Ying's face was also unusually blushed, which didn't appear to be attributed to sun exposure.

Chen Ru stopped scolding her. Instead, she dragged Wen Ying onto her Mulan women's motorcycle and brought her to the hospital.

They had already departed. Standing outside the examination room, a parent who was waiting for his child couldn't help but sigh, "Despite the scolding, how can a mother not love her child? Children are parents' precious treasure. Every parent fears the decline of their children's academic performance, as well as the potential exhaustion and illness. Parents are genuinely worried!"

The other parents also agreed.

Chen Ru drove Wen Ying to the hospital and did a blood test. The doctor said that Wen Ying was suffering from flu, and her main symptoms were rapid onset of high fever, general pain and fatigue.

As for how Wen Ying got infected with the flu, Chen Ru set the cause for her illness in her heart. She thought that Wen Ying and a group of classmates went to the provincial capital to play at the beginning of June. When they went home, it rained heavily. No one brought an umbrella. Wen Ying was drenched. The next day, Wen Ying began to cough for a week. Chen Ru only gave Wen Ying the loquat cough syrup to stop coughing. Seeing that Wen Ying had stopped coughing, she didn't take it seriously... Chen Ru thought, and began to scold Wen Ying in front of the doctor.

"It's all your fault for not listening to me. You can't go to the provincial capital when it's time for the college entrance examination. If you don't go out, you won't get wet in the rain and won't get sick. I don't know if it will affect your high school entrance exam grades."

Wen Ying was lying on the bed, not wanting to say a word.

In the end, the doctor couldn't stand it anymore. He told Chen Ru that the patient needed to rest and asked her to leave.

"It seems your daughter will need to be hospitalized for a few days. Please go and handle the medical bill in advance."

Chen Ru was shocked, "Does she have to stay in the hospital even if she just catches a cold?"

"She's suffering from a flu, and her symptoms are serious. It's better for her to stay in the hospital for treatment."

The flu was contagious to a certain extent. Although a common cold was minor, it can lead to complications, and even death in severe cases.

The doctor told Chen Ru about the severity of Wen Ying's condition. Chen Ru stopped nagging and absorbed the doctor's instructions to handle the hospitalization procedure for Wen Ying.

After paying for all the examinations, Chen Ru had ran out of cash. The doctor now said Wen Ying needs to stay in the hospital for a few days. Chen Ru can only call her husband, Wen Dongrong, for help.
