Chapter 228. Do you want to quarrel with me?

Everyone was talking and laughing at the table, and no one noticed that Huo Yuanchen was acting strangely.

Only Wen Yongjie asked, "Why doesn't Yuanchen eat? Are you not used to the taste here? Otherwise, ask your aunt to cook a dish for you. What do you want to eat?"

Wen Li was reluctant to let Hu Huifen work so hard, so he quickly reached out to stop her and said, "Dad, he is used to it. My mom has been busy since she got up in the morning, let her take a break."

Wen Yongjie must have loved his wife more. Hearing this, he no longer insisted and just told Wen Li, "Take good care of Yuanchen."

Wen Li felt that Huo Yuanchen was just being hypocritical. An Wen's home was not far from here, and the tastes of the two places were similar. He could get used to the food at An Wen's home, but not at her home?

She agreed perfunctorily and went to talk to Winnie with a smile.

Winnie sat next to Tong Hao, who treated her like an aunt. When eating fish, Tong Hao would pick out the bones before putting it in Winnie's bowl. As for what Winnie liked to eat, Tong Hao knew it by heart, and he knew Winnie's taste better than his cousin Wen Li.

Compared with Tong Hao, Huo Yuanchen has nothing good except his good looks.

Wen Li was even too lazy to care about him.

After three rounds of drinks, everyone took turns raising their glasses to wish Grandma Wen a happy birthday, saying auspicious words as if they were free. Tong Hao's mouth was as sweet as honey, making Grandma Wen laugh so hard that she almost smiled like a flower.

The old man was in good spirits today. He looked at Tong Hao and then at Winnie, with satisfaction in his eyes. Even the uncle and aunt couldn't help but feel happy, and their expressions when they looked at Tong Hao were much more enthusiastic than before.

Then it was Wen Li and Huo Yuanchen's turn.

Logically speaking, Huo Yuanchen is not a relative of the Wen family, but he is the son-in-law that Wen Yongjie has personally praised. In the eyes of the Wen family, it is no different from being married.

Someone immediately joked, "Wen Li, you are a professor, you have to say a few more auspicious words to grandma, and don't let Tong Hao outshine you."

Wen Li smiled at the man, but was sweating in his heart.

Fortunately, Huo Yuanchen didn't say anything, and his birthday speech was quite standard. Although he was not as good at pleasing the old man as Tong Hao, he didn't embarrass Wen Li.

She added two more sentences and drank the wine with Huo Yuanchen.

Grandma Wen smiled and waved at Huo Yuanchen, motioning him to come over.

She rummaged in her pocket for a long time, took out a red envelope and stuffed it into Huo Yuanchen's hand. She squinted her eyes and smiled, saying, "I gave Tong Hao's share when he first came to my house. This is for you, keep it."

He refused to accept it, so Grandma Wen deliberately put on a stern face and said, "If you don't accept it, then I won't let Wen Li marry you."

Huo Yuanchen glanced at Wen Li indifferently.

Wen Li immediately understood what he meant. He had never thought of asking her to marry him, and Granny Wen's threats were useless to him. It was just that he couldn't refuse directly because of the old lady's face.

So, leave the trouble to her and let her figure it out herself.

Wen Li went over and held Grandma Wen's hand, and said coquettishly, "Grandma, I haven't decided whether to marry him or not, how can you agree for me? You can keep this red envelope first, and give it to him when he proposes to you."

Grandma Wen was a little anxious. She motioned for her to come closer and whispered in her ear, "Grandma is afraid that she won't be able to wait until that day."

Wen Li almost cried. She pretended to be fine and coaxed Grandma Wen, "Don't talk nonsense, I'm sure you'll get there."

Grandma Wen still shook her head.

Wen Li had no choice but to say, "Then I'll talk to him later and ask him to propose to me quickly, and then you can give him a red envelope, okay?"

Grandma Wen tapped her forehead, stuffed the red envelope into her hand, and said in a low voice, "It doesn't matter whether you give it to me early or late. I feel relieved when I give it to you."

Wen Li kissed Grandma Wen on the cheek and gave the seat to the next relative who came to celebrate the birthday.

She did not return to her seat, but went into the kitchen when no one was paying attention.

She was still holding the red envelope that Grandma Wen had stuffed into her hand, and her tears couldn't stop falling.

After she had cried for a while, Huo Yuanchen came over to find her. Unexpectedly, he saw her crying. He looked at her in surprise for a long time and handed her the tissue.

Wen Li didn't take it. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand and handed him the red envelope. "My grandma gave it to you. You keep it."

Huo Yuanchen raised his eyebrows and said, "This is a red envelope for your future husband. I can't accept it."

Wen Li glanced at him, curled the corners of his lips sarcastically, and put the red envelope into his pocket.

She calmed herself down, turned around and walked out.

Huo Yuanchen held her back, stuffed another red envelope into her hand, and said, "I didn't have time to buy a gift, so this is my birthday gift to grandma."

Wen Li took a look into the red envelope and saw a thick stack of cash, estimated to be over 20,000 yuan.

She smiled at him, but the smile didn't even reach her eyes.

Huo Yuanchen frowned and asked , " What's wrong with you?"

Wen Li said, "Nothing. I thank you on behalf of my grandma."

Huo Yuanchen held her back, not letting her leave. His eyebrows knitted together, he said in a slightly unhappy tone, "If you have anything to say, can't you just say it now? I came all the way here to celebrate your grandmother's birthday, and you never gave me a good look from the moment I walked in. How has this red envelope made you unhappy now?"

Wen Li didn't want to argue with him. Today was an important day for her family, and she didn't want to make fun of the relatives who came to visit.

He said nonchalantly, "I'm not unhappy. Professor Huo, you're worrying too much."

Huo Yuanchen's jawline was tense, and he stared at her deeply for a long time. Finally, he let go of her hand and let her go.

He himself stayed in the kitchen for a while before leaving.

He sat at the dining table, feeling that he had no appetite at all. The Wen family was talking and laughing, but what did it have to do with him?

No matter in the past, present or future, he would never have any relationship with these people. He even regretted why he accepted Wen Yongjie's invitation.

You should find an excuse to get away with it and say you don't have time to come.

He sat for a while and felt really bored, so he sent a message to Wen Li, asking her, "How long will it take for the birthday party to end?"

Wen Li immediately knew that he wanted to leave, and replied without hesitation, "If you want to leave, just leave. Why are you asking me?"

Huo Yuanchen said, "I'll wait until it's over before I leave. What about you, do you want to stay here, or go back to Hai City with me?"

He saw Wen Li read his message, but she didn't react at all. She turned around and started chatting with Winnie without even glancing at him.

Leave him aside like a fool.

Huo Yuanchen was almost unable to suppress his anger.

After finally waiting for the birthday banquet to end, he immediately said goodbye to Wen Yongjie, "I have something else to do, so I have to leave first."

Wen Yongjie didn't think much about it and told Wen Li, "Go and see Yuanchen off."

Wen Li saw Huo Yuanchen off the door with his head down. He didn't speak to him along the way. He just walked him to the door and was about to leave.

Huo Yuanchen grabbed her wrist, not allowing her to refuse, and pulled her to a secluded place.

"Is it okay now?" He said to her coldly, "Don't you want to quarrel with me? There's no one here, go ahead."
