Chapter 5 Ninth Brother

In order to avoid embarrassment, Jiang Sui moved faster this time and walked towards the snack street before Si Nian. The night breeze blew through her hair that only reached below her ears, making her hair hot and itchy.

After a long time, she heard Si Nian's footsteps following her.

Jiang Sui didn't dare to look back at Si Nian's expression, but just slowed down his pace again.

"Cough..." After a few seconds, Si Nian coughed softly beside him, "What do you want to eat?"

Jiang Sui glanced at Si Nian out of the corner of his eye, and there was a barely perceptible curve at the corner of his mouth.

She immediately felt relieved and answered casually, "I...anything is fine..."

Si Nian paused for a moment, glanced at her, and continued walking forward. He stopped in front of a seafood restaurant and turned back to ask Jiang Sui, "Would you like some seafood?"

Jiang Sui took a look inside the store. There were too many people. She didn't like noisy places, so she shook her head at him.

Si Nian led her forward a little further, turned around and asked again, "Barbecue?"

Jiang Sui still shook her head, Si Nian stopped and faced her and hissed, "You can call this anything?"

Jiang Sui stuck out her tongue a little embarrassedly, looked away, and suddenly found an open-air barbecue in the corner at the end of the road. Maybe because the temperature in Shenhai City was still a bit high, there were not many people sitting outside to eat, so she pointed over there and said, "Eat this!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Sui ran happily towards the barbecue stall. Si Nian stood there looking at her back with a smile on his face. Even at this age, she still likes to eat at roadside stalls.

Si Nian followed Jiang Sui to the barbecue stall, picked a seat in the corner and sat down. The proprietress quickly came over with the menu and took their order.

Si Nian pushed the menu in front of Jiang Sui. Jiang Sui looked at it carefully for a while and said to the proprietress, "Give me ten skewers of lamb and a bowl of cold noodles!"

The lady boss smiled and said, "Want something else?"

The proprietress's last tone rose heavily when she heard this. Jiang Sui was stunned for a moment, then he looked at Si Nian with wide eyes.

Si Nian's lips curled up slightly, revealing a beautiful dimple. He took the menu and told the proprietress a bunch of names. The proprietress wrote them down one by one. Finally, Si Nian told the proprietress, "The cold noodles should be at room temperature, without ice!"

The proprietress said "OK" generously and left.

After the proprietress left, Jiang Sui turned around and looked at Si Nian. He was unpacking the tableware with his rough fingers, a smile still on his lips.

Jiang Sui was puzzled, "What are you laughing at? Don't you think the boss lady's words are a bit..."

“The boss and his wife are from Northeast China!”

Before Jiang Sui finished speaking, Si Nian's words resolved her doubts, and she nodded in understanding.

After a while, Si Nian got up and brought back two bottles of peanut milk from somewhere. He found the bottle opener in front of the boss's barbecue grill as if he was familiar with the place, opened the bottle cap, handed one bottle to her, and placed the other bottle directly on the table.

While the two were waiting for their meal, Si Nian sat opposite Jiang Sui and looked down at his phone. Jiang Sui took a sip of peanut juice from time to time and looked up at Si Nian from time to time.

Si Nian didn't look up. The light from the phone shone on his face in the dim environment, making his facial features look more three-dimensional.

"You have something to say to me?"

His eyes were still on the phone, but it was as if he had eyes on the side of his body, spying on Jiang Sui's thoughts.

"You...seem to be very familiar with this place?" Jiang Sui asked tentatively.

"good!"

Si Nian was still looking at his phone, and it seemed that he only had time to squeeze out two words to answer her.

Jiang Sui took another sip of peanut juice and glanced away. In a short while, two more tables of customers came to the stall. Judging from their attire, they should be students from the surrounding area.

"Are you studying or working here?"

When asking this question, Jiang Sui simply wanted to find out about his current situation, because she clearly remembered that her mother had pointed to a map and told her that Si Nian's grandfather's home was in a city in the south of the Yangtze River, which was very close to Shenhai, but not Shenhai.

This time Si Nian suddenly raised his head and stared at Jiang Sui for a moment. Jiang Sui's eyes suddenly dimmed when he saw him, then he put away his phone and turned his head to look away.

Just when Jiang Sui thought that he was not going to answer her question, his faint voice seemed to come from the depths of the distant ocean, making it difficult to hear clearly.

“I haven’t read for a long time.”

I haven't read for a long time...

These words suddenly hit Jiang Sui's heart, making her heart suddenly tighten.

Did you not go to college, or did you not continue your studies after graduating from college?

Before Jiang Sui had the chance to ask in detail, the proprietress brought out the grilled skewers and cold noodles they ordered.

Jiang Sui might be really hungry. When she smelled the burnt aroma of various meats, her mouth was watering.

As soon as the proprietress put it down, she grabbed a skewer of lamb and put it in her mouth, but before the skewer was about to touch her lips, it was snatched away by someone. Jiang Sui stared at Si Nian with wide eyes, "What are you doing?"

Si Nian did not answer, but calmly took a few napkins from the side, wiped the ends of the skewers in his hand, and handed them back to Jiang Sui.

Jiang Sui took it and took a bite silently, watching Si Nian take more than half of each kebab on the table, wipe it as he had just done, put it on an empty plate, and pushed it in front of her.

Then he picked up a skewer at random and started eating it by himself.

Jiang Sui looked at the skewers of meat on the plate in front of Si Nian. Both ends of the skewers had some traces of charcoal burns. Although he didn't care and just picked them up to eat, he still patiently helped her clean the remaining ash on the skewers. On the hot late summer night, Jiang Sui's heart suddenly felt a sense of coolness.

He is still the Si Nian who always cares about and takes care of her.

Jiang Sui no longer wanted to mention the confusion and doubts in his heart at the moment. As long as he was still the same person he used to be, it would be fine.

Si Nian only ate a few skewers and then started looking at his phone again. Jiang Sui was the only one eating. She thought the dishes ordered by Si Nian were quite delicious, so she couldn't stop eating once she started. She didn't eat many bites of the cold noodles, but she almost finished all the grilled skewers.

"Hey, Brother Nine!"

Jiang Sui and Si Nian looked in the direction of the sound and saw a lively and handsome boy walking towards their table. Behind him was a girl who looked average but had a bookish air.

As soon as he came over, his eyes kept roaming back and forth between Jiang Sui and Si Nian, making Jiang Sui's hair stand on end.

"What a coincidence, Brother Jiu, this is the first time I see you dating a girl!"
