Chapter 13 Family

Jiang Sui's thoughts were interrupted by Si Nian. She suddenly felt that she had no appetite and put down her chopsticks.

"I am full."

Si Nian glanced at him without saying anything, and continued eating noodles while looking at his phone.

"The sister Xiao Hai just mentioned, is she from the Si family?"

Si Nian paused for a moment after hearing this, and responded softly, "Yeah."

"How many sisters are there in the Si family?"

Si Nian seemed unwilling to tell her too much, but she couldn't help asking.

"Why do you ask that?"

"Nothing, just asking."

Jiang Sui glanced away awkwardly. Si Nian's attitude might mean that he didn't want to talk about this topic with her, so she shut up and stopped asking.

Unexpectedly, after a moment of silence, Si Nian suddenly spoke.

"Xiao Hai is talking about my second uncle's cousin. She is the only girl in the Si family."

"Does she come here often?"

"No, just that one time."

"You chased them away too?"

"Um..."

After hearing this answer, Jiang Sui finally felt better.

Her hands were stretched out and casually placed on the edge of the table, her index fingers tapping lightly on the surface.

When Si Nian saw her little action, he couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth slightly.

When this girl is in a good mood, she will unconsciously tap the table with her index finger like this, and when she is unhappy, her hands will naturally clench into fists.

Si Nian discovered this since she was a child, but she probably still doesn't know it herself, that her two unintentional little movements can reveal her emotions.

Although he was willing to see her happy forever, he still had to say what he had to say, and he didn't want to implicate her.

After Si Nian finished his noodles, he placed his chopsticks neatly on the plate and called Jiang Sui with a serious expression.

"Sui Sui!"

"Um..."

After many years, Jiang Sui's heart seemed to skip a beat when she heard Si Nian call her like this again. She responded in a low voice and looked at Si Nian with a smile in her eyes.

"You'd better not come to my place anymore in the future,"

Si Nian only said half of the sentence, "tsk", turned his head and sighed softly and continued, "Try not to come! If you have anything, you can call me or send me a WeChat message, it's all fine!"

Jiang Sui looked at Si Nian in disbelief. Why was he always thinking about driving her away? Just now she was happy that Si Nian treated her differently. He drove her away, but found her back, but now he started to bring up the old things again.

"Why? You have to give me a convincing reason!"

Seeing the forbearance in Jiang Sui's eyes, Si Nian felt a little uncomfortable, but he still softened his voice to coax her, "I'm doing this for your own good... You should concentrate on your studies at school. I promise that I will respond to your calls and WeChat messages as soon as possible in the future."

Although Jiang Sui was very reluctant, she didn't want to keep making things difficult for Si Nian. Since he said it was for her own good, she would just take it as something he was doing for her own good. Anyway, she didn't have that much time to come to him.

"It's okay if I don't come, but there's one more thing you have to do: you have to visit me at school regularly."

If he visits her regularly and pays attention, there shouldn't be any problem.

So he agreed, "Okay, I'll visit you once a month."

"No! Once a week!"

Jiang Sui extended an index finger to bargain.

Si Nian frowned and shook his head.

Jiang Sui thought for a moment and held up another finger, "Then it's two weeks, no more!"

Then, without waiting for Si Nian to respond, she glanced away inadvertently and said in a low voice, "You know, I don't have any other relatives..."

That's why I want to get closer to you, because you are my last support and sense of security...

When he heard her say this, Si Nian's heart couldn't help but twitch. He understood what she meant, so he no longer refused.

"Okay, once every two weeks."

Seeing that he agreed so readily this time, Jiang Sui curled his lips in satisfaction.

When washing dishes, Jiang Sui wanted to help, but was rejected by Si Nian again.

He said to Jiang Sui, "I am here, so it is not your turn to do these things. It is not appropriate for a hand that holds a pen to do these things."

There was no expression on Si Nian's face when he said this. She knew that Si Nian didn't want to get involved, but when Jiang Sui heard this, she felt extremely depressed and had an urge to cry.

She knew she had been crying too much recently, so she tried her best to control herself.

She comforted herself in her heart, there was no need to be sad, no matter what he was like now, as long as he was still there, it would be fine. As long as he was there, she would have a brother and a relative again.

Later that day, Si Nian rode his black electric motorcycle through the streets of the city center to take Jiang Sui back to school.

Jiang Sui was very confused when he saw Si Nian parked the electric scooter quite far away from the school gate.

"Why don't you just walk me to the door, or just walk me to the dormitory building?"

Their school is very inclusive, and tourists often go in to take pictures. It's not like outsiders are not allowed to come in. Why is he so self-conscious that he even stays away from the gate when he sends her back?

"You just had dinner. Can't you walk a few more steps? Do you want to turn into a bear?"

Jiang Sui curled his lips. A few days ago he said that she had lost weight and asked her to eat more, but now he was worried that she would become as fat as a bear. He really worried too much.

"Then accompany me to the door. It's quite dark outside..."

Si Nian looked around. There weren't many people outside the school at this time. He pulled his cap down a little more and said in a deep voice, "Let's go!"

Si Nian's shadow was stretched very long under the street light. Jiang Sui followed Si Nian, hopping and skipping, chasing after his shadow.

Jiang Sui's mood has been up and down in the past half day today, but she is satisfied at the moment, maybe because he promised to visit her regularly, or maybe because she feels inexplicably at peace at the moment.

"By the way, why do Xie Xingzhou and the others call you Ninth Brother?"

Jiang Sui suddenly remembered this question and asked it casually.

Si Nian didn't look back, nor did he stop. He lowered his head and walked a few steps and said, "They just called me that casually, there's no reason."

Jiang Sui didn't believe this statement. She pursed her lips and asked another question.

"Is that store you just mentioned yours? Why is it called Wenjiu?"

"No, it's my friend's shop, and he also gave it the name."

"That..."

"Are you asking a hundred thousand questions?" Si Nian suddenly stopped and looked back at her.

Jiang Sui stuck out his tongue and said nothing.

The two walked in silence for a while.

"Year after year..."

When they were almost at the gate, Si Nian suddenly stopped and looked back at Jiang Sui. Jiang Sui almost bumped into him because he wasn't paying attention.

"What's wrong?"

Jiang Sui hurriedly took a step back and looked at him intently.

"Sui Sui, if you want, you don't just have me..."

Si Nian paused, but Jiang Sui seemed to have guessed what he was going to say.

"Actually, Uncle Jiang..."

"Don't mention him to me!"

Jiang Sui's face suddenly darkened, Si Nian didn't dare to say anything more, and the two of them stood there in silence for a while.

Then Jiang Sui said, "I'm going back first, please be careful on the road!"

Watching Jiang Sui walk into the school gate without looking back, Si Nian hummed softly. Jiang Sui's back became farther and farther away, and finally disappeared into the night.

Jiang Sui's university life began to gradually get on track, and his daily routine was very regular.

But sometimes Jiang Sui would feel confused. Ever since she knew Si Nian had given up his ideal, she sometimes didn't know the meaning of her persistence. The person she wanted to pursue was no longer in front of her. This road was very lonely, but habit forced her to persevere.

Now only by being busy can she feel fulfilled.

So when she didn't have classes in her major, Jiang Sui would sometimes take language classes in other majors, where she unexpectedly met Zhou Chengye, a talented man from the Foreign Affairs College.
