It took Emily several seconds to stand up with the help of Leana's momentum. Regardless of how painful her tailbone was, she seemed to feel nothing, standing upright with a cold and defiant look in her eyes.
"Why is it that you want me to divorce and I must divorce, want me to go back to my country and I must go back? You say I should make amends, but I don't feel like I did anything wrong. It is you who should apologize to me!"
She spoke each word clearly, each word carrying a sharpness, piercing through: "I faked my death because I had enough of your indifference. I don't want to live as a puppet, and I don't want to see you anymore."
"I just want to live my own life, a life unrelated to you!"
The coldness and disgust in her eyes were so unfamiliar to James. He still remembered the woman who used to look at him with admiration. Although she looked exactly the same as the person in front of him, everything about her was different.
James's eyebrows furrowed tightly as the spot she bit on him burned with pain. He stared at Emily with a heavy gaze, his anger pounding in his head, the veins on his forehead bulging.
He took a step forward, and Leana immediately shielded Emily behind her.
"What are you going to do to my friend?" Leana couldn't understand Chinese, but after observing for so long, she understood what was going on.
However, the next moment, she was restrained by two men dressed in black.
"Hey, what are you doing? Let go of me!"
Emily's expression changed, furious: "James, let go of my friend."
"If you want me to let her go, come back to my country with me."
Leana was Mary's friend, which made her Emily's friend as well. Emily didn't want to involve others, but she knew James too well. He was stubborn.
"What if I don't?" She thought she made herself clear enough, and any person with a conscience would stop bothering her.
Unfortunately, James had no conscience. He was determined to take her back to his country.
"Then I'll throw her into the sea to feed the fish." James lightly pointed his finger, and the men in black dragged Leana to the edge of the railing, as if prepared to throw her over. Leana turned pale with fear and screamed.
"James, this is illegal!"
"I'll count to three, and her life or death will be in your hands." James turned around, leaving her with a tall yet indifferent figure.
He spoke so casually, but Emily felt as though she was in agony. She knew that James could say and do anything.
"James, you bastard!" Emily cursed loudly.
James's expression grew darker as he uttered a number: "One."
As Aria's voice fell, Leana was pressed against the railing, her head already hanging out, desperately casting a pleading gaze at Emily.
The crew members were being held back by the men in black, only able to watch helplessly.
Emily rushed over anxiously, attempting to save Leana, but she was also restrained by two men in black. She struggled with all her might.
"James, don't you love your White Moonlight, she referenced Eva. You want to bring me back to your country, aren't you afraid she'll get jealous and cause trouble for you?"
"Two."
James took a step forward, ready to leave.
Just as the final word "three" was about to escape, Emily shouted, "I'm going with you!"
The black-clad men released Leana, and she stumbled over to embrace Emily.
"Thank you, Aria," Leana said, holding Emily tightly. "You are my savior."
"It's my fault that you got hurt," Emily said, speaking in a voice that only Aria and she could hear. "Can you help me contact Mary?" And finally, she added, "Tell Mary to take care of the two children."
Leana nodded.
The roar of a helicopter resonated above their heads as Emily followed James up, and as the cabin door closed, the black-clad men swiftly retreated.
The helicopter grew farther and farther from the ground, and Emily slowly withdrew her gaze. She stared blankly at a certain spot, with James sitting beside her, engrossed in reading a document on his iPad.
After five years, they sat peacefully together for the first time, at a close distance. She could smell the familiar fragrance emanating from him.
Emily closed her eyes and quietly shifted away from James, putting some distance between them.
James noticed this little movement and frowned, feeling displeased.
Was this woman finding him repulsive?
Ha, it should be him finding her repulsive, right?
James also moved aside a bit.
Neither of them spoke, seemingly devoid of anything to say. Emily rested her eyes, contemplating how to arrange things once they returned to the country.
From the looks of James, he clearly hadn't discovered the existence of the two children. But he would definitely ask, and she couldn't allow the children to appear in front of James once they returned. If James were to find out, he would surely take the children away.
With his temperament, he might not even let her see them again.
Therefore, once they returned to the country, she needed to find a way to quickly rid herself of James. Speaking of which, she was "dead," so did James not marry Eva?
Eva probably wouldn't want her to still be alive either. So, it seemed that she had a good chance of severing ties with James.
Once Emily sorted all this out in her mind, she felt at ease and quickly fell asleep.
The helicopter flew directly to the hotel where James was staying. After it stopped, James opened the cabin door and turned to look at Emily, only to find that she had fallen asleep.
James frowned, his gaze falling on the bruise clearly visible on Emily's wrist.
"Boss," Joseph was waiting below.
"Wake her up and then lock her up," James said coldly, before confidently walking into the hotel.
Joseph and the bodyguard exchanged glances before reluctantly going up to wake Emily.
"Madam, we have arrived."
James disappeared, leaving only Joseph and a few bodyguards. She followed Joseph into the hotel, fully cooperative.
After leading her to a VIP room and about to leave, Joseph was stopped by Emily.
"Is James married?" Emily asked.
Joseph didn't expect her to ask this question, but there was nothing wrong with answering truthfully.
"No."
"He's not with Eva?" Emily's eyes widened in surprise.
Back then, Emily had heard with her own ears that James was willing to divorce her for Eva. James liked Eva, so how could he not marry her?
"Miss Foster has been by the boss's side all these years."
Emily nodded and smiled at Joseph. "Oh, I see. Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Joseph left, closing the door behind him. However, not long after, someone knocked on the door and came in to deliver a tube of cream for reducing bruises.
Emily sat on the soft sofa, staring at the tube of cream for a while before applying it to her wrist. She then laid down, closed her eyes, and let her mind wander. Soon, she fell asleep.
She hadn't slept well for two days.
...
"James, are you sure you don't want me to come and accompany you?" Eva's voice came through the phone, gentle and concerned.
"No, I'll be back in the country soon," James replied indifferently.
He kept his phone open, simultaneously talking on the phone and replying to emails.
"Okay, take care of yourself and don't overwork."
"I know."
"You're busy, I'll hang up now."
"Okay."
Reluctantly, Eva hung up the phone, and immediately, her face went from reluctance to a dark cloud of sadness.
