Stella hurried over. "Are you... Dylan?"
Damian paused for a moment before nodding.
Stella was shocked as she looked at him.
She had actually agreed to marry a blind man!
Lily, seeing her future daughter-in-law, was naturally overjoyed. She still kept her hands on Damian as if she were supporting him.
"Stella, you’re so beautiful."
Stella blushed at the straightforward compliment.
"Hello, ma’am."
Stella quickly moved to Damian’s other side. "Let me help, ma’am. I’m sorry, I didn’t know that he... that he couldn’t see."
"Can’t see?" Lily looked up at her son. His sunglasses, the proud way he held his head still, and the fact that she was supporting him—all of it really did make him seem like a blind man.
"Yes! He can’t see. He’s blind!" Lily agreed without hesitation.
Behind the sunglasses, Damian narrowed his eyes slightly. What was she saying?
Lily immediately stepped on Damian’s foot, and he understood—she wanted him to play along.
This mother was a never-ending source of surprises, always knowing how to adapt to the new situation seamlessly...
"Let’s go, my soon-to-be daughter-in-law, let’s go inside and register."
"Okay."
Stella supported Damian as Lily let go and watched the couple stand together.
How perfectly matched they were!
Inside the county clerk's office, Stella filled out her paperwork, while Lily filled out Damian’s.
When it was time to go through the marriage procedures, the staff at the county clerk's office, understanding that Damian was blind, didn’t make him remove his sunglasses.
As they walked out of the building, Damian glanced at the clock in the hall. His meeting was about to start.
But then he remembered that he was supposed to be blind.
"Mom, what time is it?"
"Almost four."
"I have something to do, so I’ll leave first," Damian said coldly.
Lily knew Damian had a lot on his plate. His schedule was always precise down to the minute, so she didn’t argue with him.
"Come home early tonight. After all, tonight is your wedding night."
As Damian left, Lily took Stella’s hand. "Stella, let’s go home."
Not far away, a Maserati was parked.
The window rolled down slowly.
A man approached and respectfully said, "Miss, they’ve registered. They used a fake identity—Dylan."
"Very good." The woman’s red lips looked especially striking in the sunlight.
"Should we report this to the higher-ups?"
"No need. I know what I’m doing."
"Understood."
The car window rolled up slowly, and the woman’s smile grew even more confident.
Lily brought Stella to a neighborhood on Deerfield Road called Starlight Village.
It wasn’t too old, but it wasn’t new either.
"This house, well, it’s a rental. Stella, I’m sorry to say, but we spent all our money—over a million dollars—so there’s not much left."
Stella suddenly felt a pang of discomfort.
It was probably because Dylan was blind that Lily was willing to spend all her savings to get her son a wife.
To give everything for your children—that type of person deserves respect.
"It’s fine, ma’am. This house can be fixed up nicely. If we both work hard, we should be able to save up for a down payment on a home."
Lily was even more pleased that Stella didn’t show a hint of displeasure and instead accepted the situation cheerfully.
"Don’t call me ma’am anymore. You should call me Mom now."
"Mom..." Stella felt a bit shy.
"Ah, good. Stella, there’s one more thing I need to ask of you."
"Yes, Mom?"
"Dylan is blind, so in matters of... intimacy, you’ll have to take the initiative."
Stella’s face turned crimson. How could Dylan’s mom be talking about that with her?
"I know this might be hard for you, but with Dylan being blind, he’s probably not very confident in that area. He’s already twenty-eight—not young anymore—and I really want to be a grandmother."
Stella couldn’t argue. Lily had probably spent most of her life focusing on her son.
She just wanted to be a grandmother—it was understandable.
"Alright."
"Then it’s settled," Lily said, taking Stella’s hand and putting a Rolex watch on her wrist.
"Mom, this isn’t right."
"What’s wrong? This watch isn’t worth much. Just a little gift from me to you."
After Lily left, Stella found herself alone.
Stella sighed. She had actually married a blind man.
She forced a small smile. It didn’t matter; blind or not, life was something she had to make the best of.
Stella quickly unpacked her things and moved in. The house had two small bedrooms—one so tiny it could only be used as a storage room.
She spent the entire day cleaning and organizing the house.
But Damian didn’t come home all night.
Stella got up early the next morning and hurried to work.
After graduating, Stella had joined B.C. Group as an administrative assistant in the Office Services department.
To be honest, she had studied art at an art school, so her background had little to do with being an admin assistant.
But after graduation, she couldn’t find a good job. She wanted to draw comics, but that wouldn’t pay the bills. Her side gigs were also unstable. She needed a steady income.
So, by chance, she ended up in the Office Services department at B.C. Group, doing odd jobs.
A sound of clapping came from nearby.
Everyone looked up at their department supervisor.
"Mr. Clark will be here in a few days, and he needs an admin assistant. The candidate will be chosen from among you. If you’re interested, you can come to me to sign up, but the final decision will be up to Mr. Clark."
Her colleague, Candy Brown, nudged Stella’s shoulder. "Stella, are you going to sign up?"
Stella shook her head. "I’m not interested."
She had been at the company for a while and had her own understanding of the role of an admin assistant.
The admin assistants of the company’s vice presidents were often taken out for dinners and drinks, and one vice president’s admin assistant had even become his mistress.
She preferred to keep a low profile, doing her job and staying out of trouble. She had her side gigs to help make ends meet at home.
"I heard the salary is $70,000."
"$70,000?" That number surprised Stella.
To be honest, she needed money—desperately.
That amount was very tempting.
Stella bit her lip but remained silent.
"I also heard that Mr. Clark is really handsome! But..." Candy leaned closer to Stella’s ear, "He’s not into women."
"Really?"
"Maybe he’s not capable, or maybe he likes men," Candy said with a gossipy smile.
Stella’s expression grew more disbelieving. "Is your information reliable?"
Candy’s father was one of the company’s board members. Her job here was arranged by her father, and no one dared to boss her around. She mostly spent her days having fun.
"It’s reliable. My dad told me! He’s been working with Mr. Clark for three years and has never seen him with a woman."
Stella couldn’t help but feel intrigued.
If the president wasn’t into women, being his assistant shouldn’t involve any trouble, right?
"But, Stella, Lilith Garcia is determined to get this position."
Stella glanced over at Lilith.
