Chapter 6 The Golden Couple

Sarah understood what Chloe’s thinking. She had never hidden what had occurred between her and Eric.

Moreover, the Ericnett family is an esteemed and noble family in New York. As a result, Chloe knew far more about Vanessa than Sarah did. After having eaten for a while, Chloe looked at Sarah hesitantly before finally asking, “Sarah, what are your plans now?”

What could she do? Sarah knew exactly what Chloe was asking. She stirred her soup with a spoon, a slight smile playing on her lips. “I’m going to leave NovaTech Industries.”

“Are you sure? What are you going to do?” Chloe asked, concerned as she noticed how pale Sarah looked.

“Yes, I’ve thought it through. I want to try becoming a TV host. My grandmother used to say she hoped to see me on television.

Now that her eyesight isn’t what it used to be, I want her to at least hear my voice.” Sarah spoke calmly, her delicate face slightly tilted, giving her an air of quiet resolve.

Now that the woman Eric truly loved had returned, Sarah knew she no longer held any value to him. She thought it would be wise to be rational and step aside sooner rather than later, not to interfere with the one he truly cared about.

Chloe was relieved that Sarah had came to a decision. After all, Eric’s family was extremely complicated, and Chloe feared Sarah would get hurt.

“You should have done this sooner. You’ve been serving Eric day and night, and it’s so unfair to you! You’re beautiful and capable, and you were even a radio host in college. After leaving NovaTech Industries, your future will be bright.”

In the past, when Sarah was deeply in love with Eric, Chloe had held back a lot of her thoughts, not wanting to hurt her. But now that Sarah had finally come to her senses, Chloe was genuinely happy for her. “Did you know Daniel Gray is back? People used to say you two were a perfect match back in college.”

Sarah was surprised. “He’s really back?”

“Yeah, haven’t you been following Daniel on Twitter? He’s a rising star in the investment world now, very famous.”

Sarah shook her head. After graduation, all her attention had been focused on Eric, apart from Chloe.

“I always thought you and Daniel would end up together. Even though he was two years ahead of you in college, he was really good to you—I was a bit envious.”

“Don’t be silly, Daniel was kind to everyone.”

It wasn’t surprising that Sarah thought this way. As a freshman, she had felt that Daniel, who was the student council president, was quite considerate towards her. Chloe knew how pure-hearted Sarah was, so she didn’t press the issue further. Instead, she laughed and said, “Silly girl.”

“I heard that Matthew is back!” Sarah couldn’t help but say.

Matthew was Chloe’s fiancé, but when this happened to his family, they were torn apart by Matthew’s father.

Eric and Matthew had a good relationship, so after Matthew’s return, the two major groups had established a very close partnership. Chloe’s smile froze instantly, her expression awkward. “I know.”

“You should forget the past, Chloe. You shouldn’t live like this. Matthew is getting married next month!” Sarah tried to persuade her, knowing that Chloe had been involved with many men only to forget Matthew. Sarah didn’t want to see her best friend hurting herself.

Chloe didn’t want to delve into the past. She raised her glass with a forced smile. “I don’t want to think too much about it. Cheers!”

After dinner, Chloe went to the underground garage to get her car, while Sarah stood by the roadside.

“Sarah?”

Someone called her from behind. Sarah turned around and saw Brianna walking towards her, her face contorted with rage.

Ever since Brianna had been kicked out of the company by Eric, the last few investors in her fashion company had also withdrawn. Upon hearing this, Brianna hated Sarah even more!

But Vanessa had returned, which was a stroke of luck. Everyone knew Vanessa was the woman Eric deeply loved, so long as Brianna could please Vanessa, everything she had lost would be hers again.

Brianna lifted her head, sneering, “Why aren’t you staying by Mr. Taylor’s side today to protect him?”

Sarah remained calm, smiling as she replied, “Ms. Ford, how’s your face healing?”

Brianna almost exploded! Sarah had struck right at her sore spot. Brianna hadn’t even had the chance to pay Sarah back for the humiliation she had suffered. NovaTech Industries! Brianna wanted nothing more than to tear Sarah apart on the spot! “You wretched—”

“Brianna!” Just as Brianna was about to act, a gentle voice interrupted her.

Sarah looked in the direction of the voice and saw a woman in a wheelchair behind Brianna—Vanessa.

She had a naturally elegant smile on her face, the kind that suited a well-bred lady raised in a privileged family.

This kind family would assured that Vanessa had grown up in a comfortable environment. The only flaw was that her health was frail, which necessitated her frequent use of a wheelchair. Sarah has read reports about Vanessa’s battle with leukemia and her treatment abroad.

Brianna saw Vanessa and, suppressing her anger, introduced them to each other. “Vanessa, let me introduce you. This is Eric’s secretary. While you were away, she took care of Eric day and night!” Understanding the implication, Vanessa’s face fell.
