Chapter 4 She Just Wants a Divorce

Evelyn froze for a moment before she began to struggle desperately. The mere thought of him kissing another woman filled her with nothing but disgust and anger.

“Mm... let go…”

She struggled wildly, but Ethan’s grip on her waist didn’t loosen in the slightest. His eyes were bloodshot, and he kissed her feverishly, his handsome face full of possessiveness.

Evelyn was furious and bit him hard, causing a strong taste of blood to spread in both their mouths. However, instead of letting go, Ethan slid his other hand under her robe.

Evelyn’s body stiffened abruptly, and she struggled even harder.

“Ethan, get off me!”

Ethan seemed not to hear, his fingers continuing to tease her sensitive spots.

“Eve, you need me too, don’t you?”

Evelyn’s struggles were futile, and despair began to fill her heart. Finally, as he pressed against her, she closed her eyes in hopelessness.

"Ethan, don’t make me hate you even more."

Ethan’s movements suddenly stopped. He looked down at Evelyn, his pupils contracting involuntarily.

He had never seen Evelyn like this before, her entire being filled with despair and pain, like a delicate porcelain doll that could shatter at any moment.

He wanted her, wanted her so badly it drove him mad. But at the same time, a voice inside him warned that if he took one more step now, it would be the end of them.

Ethan stared at her intently, his grip on her waist tightening, his eyes full of inner conflict. After several long seconds, he suddenly released her, got up, and quickly left the room.

The bedroom door slammed shut with a loud bang, and the noise made Evelyn flinch. Her grip on the blanket tightened involuntarily.

For the next few days, Ethan didn’t come home. Evelyn called him several times to discuss the divorce, but he didn’t respond at all.

Soon, the weekend arrived. Evelyn was in the living room, sending out resumes as she was looking for a job, when she heard the sound of the front door. Ethan walked in.

He seemed to have become more haggard in the few days they hadn’t seen each other.

Their eyes met, and both remained silent. It was Evelyn who finally broke the silence. She closed her laptop and stood up, looking at him calmly.

“Since you’re back, let’s talk about the divorce.”

Ethan frowned. “I’ve already told you, I won’t divorce you. I came back today to remind you that we’re having dinner at the family estate tonight.”

The Montgomery family held a family dinner once a month. Ever since marrying Ethan, the two of them had gone back to the estate every month.

The Montgomery family members were difficult to get along with and looked down on her. Every time when she visit them, Evelyn would be subtly or overtly put down.

In the past, she could comfort herself by thinking that as long as Ethan loved her, nothing else mattered. But after seeing that scene in the video the other day, she could no longer deceive herself.

“I don’t want to go. You can go by yourself.”

Ethan’s expression showed some helplessness, and there was a hint of impatience in his eyes.

“Evelyn, how long are you going to keep this up?”

"I’m not causing a scene. I just want to divorce you."

At the mention of divorce, Ethan’s last bit of patience was exhausted.

“Divorce? Since marrying me, you haven’t worked. How do you plan to support yourself after the divorce? What company would hire you? And how do you plan to pay for your father’s exorbitant medical bills?”

“Eve, you’re twenty-eight. Can’t you be more mature?”

"I’m the CEO of Montgomery Group. I face all kinds of temptations outside, and sometimes it’s hard to resist. But those women will never replace you as Mrs. Montgomery. What more do you want?”

Why couldn’t she understand? He still loved her, but he would never have only one woman in his life.

Looking at Ethan’s aggressive demeanor, Evelyn found it impossible to reconcile him with the shy boy who had blushed when he confessed his feelings to her in college, promising never to break her heart.

Maybe… this was his true nature—selfish, arrogant, and condescending.

“If your idea of maturity is tolerating your affairs, then I’m sorry, I’ll never be mature. Find another woman to bear that. Here’s the divorce agreement I had a lawyer draft. Sign it when you have the time.”

With a cold expression, Evelyn handed him the divorce papers.
