Chapter 6 Meet Adrian Again

Though she had consistently reminded herself to forget everything about that night.

Adrian glanced back at Ethan, his gaze casually sweeping over Evelyn Moore. He nodded indifferently and then turned to walk straight into the main house.

Seeing Adrian walk away, Evelyn let out a sigh of relief. The moment Adrian had looked over, she had been so nervous that she forgot to breathe, terrified that he might say something outrageous. Fortunately, he said nothing.

Hopefully, he had forgotten about that night’s incident. Evelyn thought it over and decided she should find an opportunity to talk to him alone later.

When the two of them entered the living room, Charles and Catherine were chatting with Adrian.

Some people are just born to stand out; you can spot them in a crowd with just a glance. Adrian was one of those people.

Noticing that Evelyn’s gaze was fixed on Adrian, Ethan’s expression darkened.

“Why are you staring at my uncle?”

Evelyn withdrew her gaze, her tone indifferent. “What does it matter to you?”

Sensing her coldness towards him, Ethan said in a low voice, “Eve, you know I don’t like you paying attention to other men!”

Ever since they got together, Ethan had been extremely controlling, forbidding Evelyn from interacting with other men.

She let out a cold laugh. “I don’t like you sleeping with other women, but my words didn’t stop you, did it?”

Ethan gritted his teeth. “Today is a family dinner. We’ll talk about this when we get home."

Evelyn looked at him with disdain. “If you don’t want to cause a scene here, then stay out of my business.”

She knew Ethan was terrified of Charles being disappointed in him. Although he was managing Montgomery Group now, Charles still held most of the family’s shares.

As they spoke, Catherine noticed them and smiled. “Eve, Ethan, you’re back! Come and sit down!”

Evelyn took a deep breath, and by the time she turned around, her face was already wearing a smile.

Although she didn’t like interacting with the Montgomery family, she still maintained basic manners toward the elders.

She walked over to Catherine and greeted her with a smile. “Hello, Grandpa, Grandma!”

“Come, have a seat.”

Catherine nodded and then looked at Adrian with a hint of disapproval. “You see? Ethan manages the company well, has a beautiful wife, and they might even have a child in a couple of years. But what about you? You’re almost thirty and still all single. If you don’t bring a girlfriend next time, don’t bother coming back!”

Hearing this, Adrian glanced at the couple, a faint smile playing on his lips. “She surely is beautiful.”

Evelyn frowned. For some reason, Adrian’s tone seemed a bit flippant when he said that.

Sitting next to her, Ethan also noticed the strange way Adrian was looking at Evelyn. As a man himself, he could tell that Adrian wasn’t looking at Evelyn like an elder would at a younger relative—it was more like a man looking at a woman…

His hand clenched tightly at his side, and his body tensed up.

Catherine frowned. “Is that the point? You need to give me a definite answer today. When are you going to bring my daughter-in-law home?”

“Depends. If I meet someone I want to marry, I could bring her home tomorrow.”

"With your standards, it would be a miracle if you select anyone. I’ve arranged a blind date for you. Be ready tomorrow and try not to show off that careless attitude of yours…"

Adrian raised an eyebrow and glanced at Ethan. “It’s been a few years since my dear nephew got married. Instead of pushing me to get married, maybe you should push him to have kids. That might be more effective.”

Catherine agreed. No matter how much she urged Adrian, he would never listen. He’d had his own ideas since he was a child.

She turned to Ethan and Evelyn with a loving expression.

“Eve, you two have been married for a few years now. When do you plan on having a child?”

Evelyn Moore looked at Catherine and said calmly, “Grandma, I’m currently job hunting, so the child thing... might need to be postponed.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, the living room fell into a heavy silence. Ethan’s expression turned incredibly dark.

His aunt, Helen Montgomery, let out a cold snort. “Evelyn, I don’t mean to be harsh, but you and Ethan have been married for years. Don’t you think it’s time you had a child? After all, the Montgomerys aren’t just any ordinary family.”

“If Ethan hadn’t insisted on marrying you back then, do you really think, with your family background, you could’ve married into the Montgomery family?”

She looked at Evelyn Moore with condescension and disdain in her eyes.

Sensing the tension, Catherine Montgomery stepped in to smooth things over. “Evelyn, you and Ethan are still young. If you don’t want to have a child just yet, it’s fine to wait a couple more years. But don’t overwork yourself either. The family isn’t short on money — just treat work as a way to pass the time.”

Evelyn Moore nodded. “I understand, Grandma.”

The unpleasant little episode passed, and the atmosphere in the living room gradually returned to its earlier harmony.

Seeing that everyone’s attention had moved on, Ethan abruptly pulled Evelyn out of the room.

He didn’t stop until they reached the back garden. Only then did he let go of her, his voice cold and sharp. “Evelyn Moore, are you out of your mind? Are you really happy only when everyone in the family knows we’re fighting?”

Evelyn rubbed her wrist, which still ached from his grip, and replied coldly, “We’re not fighting. We’re getting divorced.”

The moment the word divorced left her lips, Ethan’s expression changed drastically!
