Chapter 1054 Daddy, I Believe in Gavin

After he got sick, Gavin was indeed physically weaker than before, but his brain was still functioning well.

He understood what Freya meant.

As Conor's daughter, Wendy was going to marry him tomorrow, but Conor had never met him before.

It was almost inevitable that Conor would put him to the test the first time they met, so as to see if he had the ability to take care of Wendy.

Gavin pondered for a moment and suddenly felt that he could completely understand Conor's frame of mind.

If he and Wendy also had a daughter in a few years, and a strange boy suddenly appeared in front of him and asked to marry his daughter after more than 20 years, he would not test the boy, but would instead beat him up.

However, Conor should not have treated him in this way.

Therefore, at present, the most important thing was to find a way to pass Conor's test.

Gavin thought about it and suddenly felt that he should ask someone experienced in this kind of thing for advice.

He checked the time and calculated that Wendy and Conor would not arrive so soon. He looked at Chris and asked decisively, "How did you pass Mr. Norris's test before you married Freya?"

"" Chris did not respond.

Freya glanced at Chris, smiled, and said meaningfully, "He did it in a roundabout way. He first infiltrated his enemy's camp."

Gavin thought for a long time and said with a shrug, "I don't understand."

Chris coughed and said stiffly, "My experience would not be of any help. You'd better drop the idea."

Gavin suddenly thought of something and nodded in agreement. "I understand. At that time, it was Freya who pursued you first."

Freya admitted that she indeed fell in love with Chris first and even pursued him.

She did not mind others bringing this up at all.

However, she had to emphasize one thing.

"Later, I didn't want him!"

Only then did Gavin remember that Mr. and Mrs. Norris had a car accident on the way to Freya's finals held at the TV station. They almost passed away and only recovered after a long time.

Freya then went far away. She said that she was going to take a break and cut off all contact with everyone.

During that period of time, Chris was a model of good behavior and only attended some important social activities. Otherwise, outside of his work, he usually stayed at home and lived like a lonely old man.

Now the story did not seem so simple. Chris must have done something else.

Gavin stared intently at Chris. "What did you do when FreyOriont away?"

Out of goodwill, Chris decided to help Gavin. He said vaguely, "Just give him whatever he wants."

"..." Gavin was confused.

Freya was ever ready to stir up some trouble and could not help giving Chris's game away. "Let me tell you! During that period of time, he went to my house every few days, played chess with my father, and bought my mother the latest products that were not on the market yet. He ate so often with my parents that he almost became part of the family. After I came back, my parents directly gave me away to him."

It was not until now that Gavin knew the story behind Gavin and Freya's marriage.

He smiled and said, "Sure enough, behind every story with a perfect ending, there is an unknown history filled with blood and tears."

Chris coughed. Although embarrassed, he still tried to maintain a natural look. "So, the reason why I said that my experience would be of no help is because you don't have time to drink tea and play chess with Wendy's father. He will be here soon."

"It doesn't matter." Gavin took a deep breath and pretended to relax. "I can deal with difficult partners, so it's okay... even if it is Wendy's father!"

After that, Gavin tidied up his suit and tie.

It was a small action that revealed the fact that he was not that confident.

In fact, Gavin knew better than anyone else that if there was really a relationship between the fathers-in-law and their sons-in-law similar to the partnership between "Party A" and "Party B", then the fathers-in-law would be the most difficult partners.

He was not nervous. He had the ability!

Freya saw through Gavin's nervousness at a glance. Instead of exposing him, she just teased him. "No need to straighten your suit anymore. You are already very handsome!"

Gavin looked down at himself and thought for a moment. Suddenly, he nodded in agreement and said, "I don't think that getting sick has affected my handsome appearance at all!"

Freya told herself that Gavin was a patient. She should care about the patient instead of rebuking him.

Besides, he was telling the truth.

Ever since Gavin fell ill, although he had lost a lot of weight, being sick did not affect his appearance, nor did it affect his handsome and sharp features.

Once he put on a suit, he would still be who he used to be. He could dominate the business world with Brian, and his aura was not reduced at all.

Freya did not tell Gavin that he could definitely pass Wendy's father's test with his elite temperament.

At this moment, someone knocked on the door.

Gavin stood up almost subconsciously. The next second, the door of the private room was pushed open.

It was Wendy who pushed the door open. She stood in the middle, with Conor and Dolly on either side. They seemed to be a very close-knit family of three.

No one in the private room had seen Conor before. In order to show their respect, Chris and Freya also stood up.

For a moment, the atmosphere in the private room became somewhat somber.

Fortunately, Wendy was good at livening up the atmosphere. She directly pulled Conor in and introduced Chris and Freya to him, saying, "Dad, this is my cousin and cousin-in-law."

"Nice to meet you. Thank you for your constant care for Wendy."

Conor behaved with the utmost courtesy towards them. He shook Chris's hand firmly, but shook hands with Freya like a gentleman.

Freya thought to herself, "Gavin's future father-in-law looks nice, so he might not make things difficult for Gavin."

Then, it was Gavin's turn.

Wendy pulled Conor to Gavin, pointed at him, and stated clearly and seriously, "Dad, this is Gavin, my boyfriend!"

Gavin had never feared anyone.

After following Brian back to Arlington from America, he had taken to life there like a fish to water and never had to worry about dealing with people.

At this moment, facing Wendy's father, he was actually very nervous.

Fortunately, after being Brian's assistant for a few years, his acting skills had improved greatly. He was able to conceal his nervousness at the bottom of his heart.

Gavin smiled and naturally greeted Conor. "Mr. Xiao, nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, too. Wendy has mentioned you to me many times." Conor raised his hand and motioned for everyone to sit down. "Everybody, have a seat. It's very tiring to stand."

Chris held Freya and said softly, "Let's sit down."

In front of Dolly and Conor, Freya respected Chris very much and sat down obediently.

Gavin called the waiter and said, "It's time to serve the dishes. Thank you." After that, he turned to look at Conor and said in a neither humble nor arrogant tone, "Mr. Xiao, Wendy told me that you like native dishes. This hotel's native dishes are very authentic. You can try them. We'll go to another hotel another day."

"Okay." Conor smiled and seemed to be looking forward to it. "Although I can eat the same dishes in Austrilia, I always feel that the dishes in non-native restaurants don't taste quite right!"

The dishes ordered by Gavin were soon served one by one. Conor picked up his chopsticks, tried the food, and nodded repeatedly. "It tastes good. The flavor is the same as that in my childhood memories."

Wendy followed suit and tried the food. She nodded like Conor and said mischievously, "It tastes good. It's the very flavor I remember when I was in my 20s."

Everyone laughed, and the atmosphere in the private room eased considerably.

Gavin laughed, but he could not quite relax yet.

Recently, apart from the time when Iris was kidnapped, this must be his most nervous moment.

He had to be fully alert, because Conor's test might come at any time.

If he failed, his wedding with Wendy might not go well.

Halfway through the meal, Conor answered a phone call and talked about work.

Conor was considering purchasing a company called "J&F". He was asking someone to evaluate J&F's state of affairs. The evaluator told him that he should consider making the purchase and asked him when he would sign the contract.

Gavin listened attentively to the details of Conor's phone call. When he heard the evaluator ask Conor when he would sign the contract, he shook his head at Conor, indicating that he should not make a decision rashly.

Conor had intended to sign the contract, but when he saw Gavin's action, he told the evaluator, "I need to think it over. Thank you."

He hung up the phone, looked at Gavin, and asked in confusion, "Gavin, what's wrong?"

Gavin seemed to be at Lambert Group' office. There was a touch of seriousness on his handsome face. "Mr. Xiao, I don't recommend that you buy J&F."

"Oh?" A curious look appeared on Conor's face. "I want to know why."

Gavin put down his chopsticks and analyzed the current situation of the industry and J&F for Conor from a very rational point of view.

In the end, Gavin said, "Mr. Xiao, in fact, J&F is now a shell company without any value."

Conor was even more confused. "The evaluator I hired is a professional."

Gavin seemed to be used to that sort of comment. He thought for a moment and said, "Mr. Xiao, I think you should investigate the relationship between the evaluator and J&F's chairman."

"Well, Dad," Wendy blinked and said mischievously, "if I were you, I would trust Gavin!"

Conor stared at Gavin.

He had to admit that Gavin was one of the few young people who he thought was calm and wise.

It would be good that he believed in the person that his daughter believed in.

He should not make a mistake...
