Brian and Joanne did not spend the first spring festival together after they got married because not long before that festival, Rowdy showed Joanne a document and used it as a form of blackmail to force her to divorce Brian.
For the sake of Brian, Joanne had to agree to Rowdy's conditions.
At that time, the relationship between Brian and Joanne had just improved. Of course, Brian would not agree to the divorce.
Coincidentally, Joanne found out that she was pregnant, which made it even more impossible for Brian to sign the divorce agreement.
However, the document that Rowdy possessed showed that the operations of Lambert Group had not been totally carried not in an honorable manner. Brian had apparently taken advantage of the loopholes of the policies on numerous occasions.
If Brian refused to get divorced, Rowdy would hand the document to the police, which would be a catastrophe for both Brian and the Lambert Group.
Joanne knew better than anyone how much effort Brian had put into the company.
She could not bear to watch the tragedy happen.
She made a plan: she would admit that she didn't love Brian and asked Wendy to issue a fake abortion agreement to mislead Brian into believing that she had given up their child.
When he personally saw her coming out of the operating room, Brian finally accepted the fact and signed the divorce agreement.
After "getting divorced", Joanne moved into Chris's apartment and it happened to be the Spring Festival.
At that festival, Joanne suffered her pregnancy symptoms alone, and Brian also numbed himself with work.
Both of them were unhappy.
However, if Brian had trusted Joanne enough, he would not have easily believed that Joanne had really given up their child and Joanne did not have to go through all the pain and worry about the future.
That was why Brian apologized to Joanne.
However, it didn't matter to Joanne whether he apologized or not.
Joanne pursed her lips and smiled, "It's all in the past."
Brian kissed Joanne's forehead. Suddenly, like magic, he picked up a bag from somewhere and handed it to Joanne.
The logo on the bag told Joanne it was a piece of jewelry inside. She looked at Brian in puzzlement-
"Why would he give her a gift?"
Brian said earnestly, "For the New Year."
Joanne took it and shook the bag, asking, "Can I open it?"
"Of course," Brian said without hesitation.
Joanne thought for a moment and deliberately tried to be difficult. "What if I don't like this gift?" she asked.
Brian narrowed his eyes and said in a highly charged tone of voice, "Will you?"
"Of course." Joanne tapped Brian's forehead with her slender index finger. "Mr. Lambert, you can't be so overbearing!"
Brian pondered for a moment and pretended to compromise. He whispered in Joanne's ear, "Mrs. Lambert, if you are not satisfied with the gift, Mr. Lambert can make it up to you in other ways."
Seemingly, there was nothing special in Brian's words.
But Joanne knew Brian so well that she got the implication immediately. Her cheeks flushed red. She glared at Brian, but her eyes did not show any anger.
Brian smiled at Joanne and held her in his arms.
Joanne was unhappy. She pushed Brian and asked, "Have you prepared gifts for mom?"
She hoped Brian had prepared one for the old lady.
Brian looked at Joanne without speaking.
Joanne suddenly had a bad feeling. She looked at Brian incredulously and asked, "You asked your secretary to buy gifts again?"
"How did you know that?" Brian was as surprised as Joanne.
"Hum-" Joanne smiled lightly and complained, "Before we got married, I would chat with mom sometimes. She always complained that every gift she received was prepared by the secretary, not you. She didn't feel your sincerity at all!"
Brian raised his eyebrows and showed Joanne another bag.
Joanne took it and found a silk scarf and a set of skincare products inside.
The scarf suited Iris well and the skincare products were suitable for the elderly.
Obviously, these were the New Year gifts that Brian prepared for Iris.
Of course, Brian had not chosen these gifts by himself.
It was likely that the secretary listed the options and Brian picked some from them and gave them to Iris in person.
This was a huge improvement for Brian.
This was another surprise for Joanne. She looked at Brian with a smile and teased, "Mr. Lambert, you've grown up."
Brian responded cooperatively, "Mrs. Lambert should take all the credit."
"What does it have to do with me?" Joanne was confused now.
"You don't remember?" Brian raised his eyebrows and looked at Joanne. Seeing her blank face, he continued helplessly, "A few days ago, you told me that presents should be chosen and given by the giver himself. Only in this way would the receiver feel your sincerity."
Joanne thought for a while but couldn't remember anything. She shook her head and looked at Brian blankly.
Brian sighed and said, "Forget it. Get out of the car. We're home."
Only then did Joanne notice that they were already at Prime Villas.
The property management of the villa was excellent. They would decorate the place for every festival. Now, red lanterns and "spring" characters could be seen everywhere in the public area of the villa, which created a festive atmosphere for the forthcoming New Year.
Joanne couldn't help smiling. "Amazing!" she commended.
Brian turned to glance at Joanne, saying, "Are you praising me?"
"No!" Joanne denied firmly. "Mr. Lambert, please ignore what I just said!"
"Ignore the word no?" Brian smiled. "Mrs. Lambert, you mean you were praising me?"
Joanne lost interest in opening the gifts. She decisively got out of the car and walked into the house.
For the past week, Joanne had been busy preparing for Gavin and Wendy's wedding. Working without a break, she did not have time to prepare for the upcoming festival.
Fortunately, she had Iris.
Iris had completely recovered from her injuries. The old lady was very positive. She wasn't affected by the kidnapping incident at all and would go shop happily and like a young girl, come back with lots of bags in her hands.
Most importantly, Iris had good taste. In just half a day, she bought enough decorations which suited the style of the house. Soon, the house was filled with a festive atmosphere.
When Joanne entered, Iris was holding Aiden and playing with him.
Joanne changed her shoes and went straight to the living room. "Mom," she called.
"Hey," Iris responded while coaxing Aiden. "Everything for Gavin and Wendy's wedding is ready?"
"Everything is ready. Just waiting for tomorrow," Joanne said, reaching out her hand. "Mom, give Aiden to me. You can have a rest."
"Okay."
Iris knew Joanne missed the little fellow. She handed Aiden to her, straightened her clothes and stood up.
At this time, Brian came over with a bag and handed it to Iris. "Mom, Happy New Year."
Iris looked at Brian first and then at the bag. She was too surprised and couldn't help saying, "Oh, you didn't ask the secretary to pick gifts for me this year?"
Joanne was amused by Iris's remark and couldn't help laughing.
Brian couldn't smile at all. He stared daggers at Joanne to warn her to stop.
Seeing this, Iris followed Brian's line of sight and looked at Joanne. "All the credit goes to Joanne," she said and gave an understanding smile.
Joanne nodded and pointed at Brian, saying, "He said the same thing."
Brian's face darkened even more.
Joanne did not care about Brian's reaction. She walked over to hold Iris's hand, saying, "Mom, open the gifts. See if you like them."
"I don't need to see it. I'm very happy now." A relieved smile appeared on Iris's aged face. "Joanne, let's prepare dinner together."
"Sure!" Joanne handed Aiden to Brian and said, "Take care of Aiden. I'm going to prepare dinner with mom."
As soon as Brian took the little guy, Joanne turned and ran to the kitchen.
Aiden looked at Brian and suddenly frowned. He snorted as if he was about to protest.
Brian looked down at the little guy in his arms and smiled. "You want mommy? But you should follow me now."
Aiden seemed to be scared by his father and was about to cry.
"Shh-" Brian motioned for the little guy to quieten down and explained, "Be quiet. Mommy is busy."
"Mm..."
Aiden looked at Brian with a wronged expression. He struggled for a while and when his mother did not come over, had to give up. He tilted his head and buried his head in Brian's arms to sleep.
Watching the little guy gradually falling asleep, Brian could not stop smiling.
Since his father passed away, he had moved to America with Iris. There was no Spring Festival atmosphere there, so they had no mood to celebrate this holiday and just went through the motions.
Now things were different.
He had established his own family and had children. He could spend the Spring Festival like how he did when he was a child.
The only difference was that he was no longer a child. Instead, he had become the father of two children.
He was happy to accept such a change.
If possible, he would like to spend each Spring Festival holiday like this in the future.
