Wendy just suddenly realized one thing.
"After the patient wakes up, I should inform the doctor as soon as possible.
"I'm also a doctor, but how could I forget such basic common sense?!
"Well, it's all Gavin's fault!"
The moment she saw Gavin open his eyes, she was so excited that she couldn't remember anything about the basic knowledge.
She hoped that it did not delay Noah and Henry's work, and she could still inform them before it was too late.
When she was halfway to their office, Wendy suddenly recalled that there was a calling bell at the head of the bed. As long as she pressed it, Noah and Henry would receive the message and rush to the ward.
"Why would I have to go there?"
It turned out that once she got anxious, her intelligence would really drop.
"However, their office is right in front of me. I'd better go straight there."
When the nurses saw Wendy in a hurry and greeted her, she merely responded. When they were about to ask what was going on, she had already pushed open the office door and rushed in.
After Gavin's operation succeeded, Noah's tense nerves finally relaxed, and he could live a much more relaxing life. He only needed to do three things now, which were eating, sleeping, and playing video games.
When Wendy pushed the door open, Gavin had just won a game. He had won the MVP in the whole game, so he was in a good mood.
Seeing Wendy rushing in, Noah calmly put down his mobile phone and asked, "What's wrong?"
Wendy took a deep breath and hurriedly continued, "Gavin is awake!"
"Really?" Noah checked the time. It was even earlier than he had expected. He was a little surprised, but he was not in a hurry. He slowly got up and said, "I'll go and check on him."
Wendy was worried that something would happen to Gavin. She couldn't help stomping her feet and urging Noah, "Hurry up, Dr. Sanchez!"
Noah glanced at Wendy.
He understood how the little girl was feeling.
He gave her a reassuring look and said calmly, "It's true that Gavin's operation was very risky, but since it succeeded, it means that Gavin is fine. Therefore, you don't need to worry that much. I'm just going to have a routine check-up so that I can rest assured. He's going to be all right."
Wendy didn't know much about brain diseases, so she couldn't tell whether Noah was telling the truth or not. She could only confirm it. "Really?"
Noah smiled helplessly and said, "Wendy, Gavin's operation has been successful. Why should I lie to you now?"
Only if Gavin's operation had failed would he have to lie to Wendy.
Wendy was still worried. She made way for him and said, "Anyway, you'd better give Gavin a checkup and see if he's doing okay."
"No problem!"
Noah took Gavin's medical record, made a phone call to inform Henry, and then left the office with Wendy and walked to the ward.
On the way, Noah suddenly found it strange and couldn't help asking, "Wendy, Gavin's room has a bell, and you should be very familiar with it. Why didn't you ring it to inform me? Why did you have to get here?"
"I..." Wendy glanced at Noah with embarrassment and said hesitantly, "I was in a hurry just now, so I forgot..."
Noah's smile grew brighter. He could finally understand how nervous Wendy was about Gavin.
He smiled and said firmly, "Well, I promise you that Gavin is fine. If anything happens to him, I'll take the suffering!"
It was unknown why Wendy instantly thought of Hazel.
She had been in the hospital for so long that she was quite familiar with Hazel.
"If she knows that I set Noah up, she will probably no longer be friends with me."
Wendy coughed and emphasized with a serious look, "Dr. Sanchez, I believe in you. I don't need that promise."
"Huh?" Noah was surprised for a moment, and then he showed a satisfied smile and said, "Very good! Wendy, I was right about you!"
Compared with Wesley, Brian, and others, Wendy was really kind.
Noah was not only satisfied but also gratified.
"It would be enough for me to experience this kind of gratified feeling a few times in my life."
Wendy looked at Noah and thought for a while. She felt that it was better not to have him misunderstand her.
She coughed. As if she was explaining or emphasizing something, she said, "I... I'm like this purely because of Hazel!"
The implication was that if it weren't for Hazel, she wouldn't have been so friendly to Noah.
Noah didn't say anything.
He felt as if he had been struck by lightning as he felt that his feelings had been hurt badly.
He looked at Wendy speechlessly and couldn't say anything more for a long while. In the end, he simply gave up and went straight into Gavin's ward.
"This is not okay. I can't understand it. The girls' minds are getting more and more complicated.
"I'll just be a good doctor."
For the time being, there were no diseases that he couldn't cure in the world.
Gavin was in much better spirits than when he had just woken up. When he saw Noah, he smiled and didn't speak.
What he wanted to say had all been reflected in that smile.
He believed that Noah would understand his meaning.
Noah walked to the bedside and patted Gavin on the shoulder. "Well done."
Gavin smiled and said, "It's all thanks to your hard work."
His voice was soft, but it was no longer sickly and weak. It sounded particularly pleasant to the ear.
Noah didn't take any credit. He said honestly, "In fact, as doctors, we merely performed the operation. The success of your operation is most likely... thanks to your will to live. Gavin, this success is the result of our cooperation. Since you thanked me, you should thank yourself as well."
Gavin still smiled and reached out to Noah. "Nice to have cooperated with you."
Noah held Gavin's hand hard and said, "Indeed."
After a while, Henry also arrived.
He didn't have any personal feelings for Noah. He treated the matter according to official principles from the very beginning.
He looked at Wendy and said very gentlemanly, "Miss Moore, we're going to perform a check-up on Gavin. Could you excuse yourself for a moment?"
Wendy knew the hospital's rules and did not intend to make herself special. She nodded very cooperatively and said, "No problem."
She turned around and walked out of the ward. After thinking for a while, she suddenly recalled that she had something to do.
She took out her mobile phone from the pocket of her coat and called Joanne and Chris one by one to tell them that Gavin had woken up.
All the ones she called said that they would be there in a minute.
Then, Wendy dialed Dolly's number.
The reason why she put Dolly last was that she wanted to tell her this news properly.
If Gavin's operation didn't succeed and he suddenly passed away, all of them would be in great pain.
Only she and Dolly would have a hole in their lives that could not be filled.
Now, Wendy was going to tell Dolly that they would no longer have such a hole in their lives, and she could be relieved.
Dolly had just woken up, and her voice was still a little hoarse. She asked softly, "Wendy, why did you call me so early? What's the matter?"
Wendy paused for a moment and slowly said word by word, "Mom, Gavin is awake."
It was as if the other end of the line had been drowned by silence. Dolly didn't say anything for a long time.
Compared with the reactions of Joanne and Chris, Dolly seemed to be much calmer.
However, Wendy knew that Dolly was so calm because she was very excited.
Wendy continued, "Mom, Gavin is really awake. You can come over and see him now."
It was not meaningless for her to emphasize it again.
Just now in the ward, when she first heard Gavin's voice, she also had a feeling of disbelief, thinking that what she had heard was just her illusion.
Just as Gavin had said, people would often have a sense of illusion when their most beautiful dream was realized.
Wendy emphasized that again because she wanted to confirm to Dolly that Gavin was truly awake.
"I heard you." Dolly's voice finally came. The original hoarseness disappeared and was replaced by a choked voice. "Wendy, I'll be right there."
"Okay, see you in a while!"
Wendy smiled sweetly and hung up the phone. She subconsciously checked the time on the screen. It had been more than ten minutes since Noah and Henry had done the checkup for Gavin.
It had been such a while. Normally speaking, the examination should have ended.
Thinking of this, Wendy couldn't help looking into the ward. Noah had just opened the door and said, "Miss, you can come in as his family member."
"Okay."
Wendy ignored Noah's teasing and rushed into the ward like a gust of wind. She hurriedly asked, "How's Gavin doing?"
"Relax. He's doing great. His wound from the operation has recovered. After a period of recuperation, he will fully recover." Noah looked at Wendy leisurely. "How about that? Shouldn't you thank me for it?"
Wendy's eyes sparkled. She nodded obediently and said, "Yes, Dr. Sanchez. Thank you very much!"
"Well, there's no need for the courtesy." Noah changed the subject without warning. "It's mainly that I couldn't bear to see you cry so much when Gavin was sent to the operating room. You cried more miserably than any patient's family member I have ever seen. I was soft-hearted and secretly vowed that I would definitely succeed in performing the operation. I would get to save Gavin and you as well! Saving people is the duty of a doctor. You really don't have to thank me too much!"
Wendy was speechless.
She wondered if he was teasing her.
She thought about it carefully and suddenly realized that she had just fallen into Noah's trap.
She gritted her teeth and glared at him. "You're so cunning!" He was so scheming that she could not guard against him.
Noah crossed his arms in front of his chest and looked at Wendy. "You said thank you just now, but now you're scolding me? Wendy, don't be like this."
Wendy did not buy it at all.
"I also have a temper, okay?"
Wendy raised her chin and said proudly, "This is the way I am. Take it or leave it!"
