Joanne didn't know how long she had slept. In a daze, she felt that something was stuck to her face.
She opened her eyes and saw Brian sitting by the bed. When she took a closer look, she was caught off guard as she met his deep gaze, which was profound and focused.
Since it was Brian who was with her, she had nothing to worry about.
Joanne closed her eyes again and wanted to sleep for a while, but she couldn't fall asleep at all. Instead, her mind was particularly active.
She felt a little strange.
She and Brian had been married for two years, and they could not be more familiar with each other.
But she found that he still liked to look at her very much.
Even though he was very busy and had no time to waste, he was still willing to spend some time looking at her quietly, as if she was his source of energy.
Every time he looked at her, his eyes would become very deep, which almost her felt like lost in his soul.
Was his strange behavior due to his love for her?
She supposed so.
Thinking of this, Joanne became more and more sleepy. When she was about to fall asleep, she felt that Brian had also laid down.
Before she could react, she was already held in his arms.
Joanne vaguely had a bad feeling, and her mind became much clearer. For no reason, she thought that it seemed to be getting late, and the two little kids should wake up soon.
Her sleepiness was quickly dispelled by her rationality.
She opened her eyes and looked at Brian. "Have you finished your work?"
Brian paused for two seconds before saying, "I've finished my work during the day."
His tone always sounded like he was implying something else.
Joanne thought about the current situation and tragically found that she was in Brian's arms. Even if he had other plans, she had nowhere to flee.
She looked at him uneasily and asked cautiously, "What else... do you need to do tonight?"
She could almost guess his answer.
Brian would probably say, "Joanne, what will happen tonight is between us..."
She knew Brian too well and thought that her guessing must be correct.
Brian held Joanne even tighter, pressed the tip of his nose against hers intimately, and said, "I have two video conferences tonight."
Joanne didn't know what to say.
She was stunned and could not help but curl her lips inwardly.
It was not easy for her to try to guess his plan, but she guessed it wrong.
Brian soon noticed Joanne's unusual behavior. He looked at her with a faint smile and asked in a low voice, "Joanne, what were you thinking?"
Joanne hurriedly denied it. "I wasn't thinking about anything!" She didn't dare to look at Brian, and her eyes unnaturally drifted elsewhere. She tried to explain. "In fact... I thought almost the same as you..."
What she meant was that what Brian was thinking was more serious, while she was less serious.
"It's just a small difference.
"It's basically the same, right?"
Joanne was still trying to convince herself, and Brian chuckled.
He seemed to have heard something very ridiculous.
Joanne had a guilty conscience. When she heard Brian's laughter, she instantly lost her confidence.
She gently bit his chest through the clothes and pretended to be angry, asking, "What are you laughing at?"
The smile on Brian's face became more and more meaningful. He looked at Joanne and said, "We've been together for such a long time. It's still so obvious when you want to lie." Then, he flicked Joanne's forehead and said in a very helpless tone, "Why are you so stupid?"
Joanne was speechless. She could only sigh with Brian and began to shirk her responsibilities. "Yeah. I also wonder why I haven't made any progress since I married you."
The implication was that it was because of Brian that she had not made progress.
As for why Brian was at fault, it was probably because he doted on her too much.
Brian narrowed his eyes, turned over, and pressed down on Joanne firmly.
He lowered his head and stared at a certain part of Joanne's body without hesitation. "I think you're wrong about that."
Joanne's face immediately turned red. She coughed and pushed Brian. "I'm going to see if Aiden and Romy have woken up..." She was hinting that it was time for him to let go of her.
Brian had not planned to do anything to Joanne.
However, looking at her timid look, he suddenly felt that if he didn't do something, he would be letting down Joanne for the way she responded to him.
Moreover, she was in his arms at this moment. In his embrace, she seemed to have no choice but to obey whatever he wanted to do.
Brian had always been a man of action. Thinking of this, he slowly leaned his lips close to Joanne.
She felt that his breath was getting closer and closer, and her hands unconsciously grabbed the sheets under her body.
She didn't plan to push Brian away.
The two of them quickly pressed their lips together and their breaths mingled.
Brian gently kissed Joanne and pampered her in a soft voice. "Joanne, be nice and open your mouth."
The last thing that Joanne could stand was Brian's charm.
She closed her eyes, obediently loosened her grit, and let Brian suck her mouth as much as he wanted.
However, before he could kiss her lips again, there was a hurried knock on the door, which interrupted the ambiguous atmosphere that he had created painstakingly.
It was either Simon or Martha who had knocked on the door.
As for the reason, it was most likely that the two little kids had begun to cause trouble again.
Joanne was used to being interrupted when they were about to have sex, but Brian didn't seem to be used to it yet.
She opened her eyes and saw that his handsome face had darkened, and he looked displeased.
She touched his face and consoled him. "Try to think that no matter what Aiden and Romy have done, they are still your kids."
Brian put his arms around Joanne's waist unwillingly and said, "Should I let them experience real life in advance?"
"Hmm?" Joanne was confused. "What do you mean?"
"They should learn to live independently," Brian said. "We can buy another house in the villa district and let them live there."
Joanne did not know how to respond.
She had never seen a father who would dote on his children so much as Brian, but she had never seen such a ruthless father as him either.
Aiden and Romy were less than a year old. How could he want them to live independently?
"However..."
Joanne was not moved and asked, "Brian, would you really bear to send Aiden and Romy away?"
Brian didn't say anything.
Brian seemed to have considered it seriously, but he did not speak, and there was rare hesitation on his face.
Joanne thought proudly in her heart that she knew that Brian didn't mean it.
He doted on the two little kids more than she did. Why would he bear to send them away?
Joanne said with a smile, "When Aiden and Romy grow up, I won't tell them about this. Well, we should get up now." If she didn't get up now, Martha and Simon would probably be unable to deal with the two little kids.
Brian released Joanne, got up with her, and went to the children's room.
For some reason, Romy was crying loudly, and her tender voice made people feel extremely distressed.
Perhaps because he had heard his sister's cry, Aiden, who had always been obedient, also began to hum. He pouted and lay on the baby bed reluctantly, looking like he was going to cry with Romy.
Martha was tortured by the two little kids and hurried to make milk formula. When she saw Joanne and Brian coming in, she explained, "They woke up together, and Romy began to cry for no reason. I was so anxious that I had no choice but to ask Mr. Xu to go to you.
Joanne smiled and said, "Martha, go and have a rest. Leave Aiden and Romy to us."
Martha left the children's room with the family of four in the spacious room left.
Joanne looked at Brian and said, "Same rules."
Their "rules" had been set not long ago.
Joanne observed for a while and found that Romy preferred her and Aiden preferred Brian.
The couple had agreed that when the two little kids made trouble together again, she would take care of Romy, and Brian would take care of Aiden. They decided that whoever could make the kid behave well first would be the winner.
According to the rules, Joanne should go to hold Romy.
Then, she realized that she had made a wrong decision.
Compared with Aiden, Romy was too difficult to deal with. No matter how hard Joanne fed the milk or held her in her arms to pamper the little girl, she couldn't get what her mother was doing and just burst into tears.
As for Aiden, the little boy had fallen asleep obediently in Brian's arms.
Brian put Aiden on the cot and walked to Joanne. He looked at her leisurely and asked, "Do you need any help?"
Joanne looked like she wanted to cry. "I yield. Would that be enough?"
Brian smiled and held Romy in his arms. The little girl acted like a spoiled child in his arms for a while and soon calmed down. She drank the milk obediently and sighed with satisfaction.
Joanne could not help but cover her face.
"Why?
"Why would Aiden and Romy both stick to Brian and turn a blind eye to her as soon as he shows up?
"I'm their mother after all. Is it okay for them to hurt me like this?"
Joanne simply left the two little kids alone. She rested her chin on her hands and sat on the sofa, quietly thinking about everything she had learned.
Romy soon fell asleep as well. Brian put the little girl on the cot and covered her with the quilt. Then, he walked to Joanne and asked, "What are you wondering about?"
Joanne was lost in thought. Without looking at Brian, she answered as if she were talking to herself, "I'm wondering if they are so clingy to you because you rarely stay with them."
Brian nodded. "That's probably the reason."
Joanne felt that Brian's tone was too perfunctory, so she snorted and warned him, "Mr. Lambert, don't be too proud!"
Brian smiled and sat down. "Mrs. Lambert, are you jealous?" he asked.
Joanne turned her head and determinedly denied it. "You're overthinking this. I'm not jealous. Not at all!"
The smile on Brian's lips deepened. He held Joanne in his arms and comforted her as if he were pampering a child. "Although Aiden and Romy rely on me more, I can't live without you. In this way, you are the greatest winner."
Joanne didn't say anything.
She thought about Brian's words and found that they seemed to make sense.
She finally looked at him and smiled, her peach-blossom-like eyes full of moving brilliance.
Brian seemed to be relieved and asked softly, "Are you in a better mood finally?"
