Chris and Freya had come over together. He happened to meet a business partner and wanted to discuss something with him, so he asked Joanne and Freya to go to the cafe and wait for Wendy by the way.
He didn't expect to hear Wendy say that he was a jealous man as soon as he came back after the discussion.
It seemed that he did not dote on his cousin enough.
Chris walked up to Wendy leisurely and asked unhurriedly, "Wendy, what did you just say?"
Wendy didn't expect there to be such a magical thing in the world that Chris would arrive as soon as she talked about him.
She took a deep breath and hurriedly denied it, "I didn't say it. Freya did!"
She just summed up Freya's words. In general, the culprit was still Freya.
Chris looked at Freya and then at Wendy. "I heard you talking just now, not her.
Wendy was speechless.
Wendy suddenly understood that Chris did not intend to hold Freya accountable at all but only her instead.
"It's obvious that he's playing favorites!
"I can't just give up like this!"
"Ahem!" Wendy tried to explain with any phrase she could use. "Chris, 'jealousy' is not a negative word. You like to be jealous, which means that you love your wife dearly. Nowadays, as long as you love your wife, you can be accounted as a good man!"
Chris was quite pleased with this explanation, but he couldn't help making things difficult for Wendy. "Wendy, do you mean that I'm not a good man when I'm not jealous?"
Wendy felt like she had fallen into a trap that she couldn't get out of.
She shook her head and feebly denied, "You must have misunderstood my meaning!"
Chris suddenly realized that it was fun to tease Wendy occasionally.
No wonder Noah said that after Gavin and Wendy got married, their lives would either be full of joy or be in chaos.
Now, it seemed that the former possibility was bigger.
While Chris was thinking about how to tease Wendy, Joanne came over and said, "Brother, drop it when you should."
Unexpectedly, Chris said, "What if I don't feel like dropping it yet?"
He meant that he did not intend to stop yet.
Joanne didn't know what to say.
She didn't know how to talk him into letting it go. She turned to hand over the job to Freya and said, "Freya, keep my brother under control."
There was a casual smile on Freya's face as if she was telling Joanne that it was none of her business and she was just here to watch the show. She looked interested as she said, "This is quite interesting. I'll stay watching for a while."
Joanne was speechless.
No matter how slowly Wendy reacted, she still realized that Chris and Freya had joined forces to bully her. Moreover, Joanne could do nothing about it.
"It's so unfair that both of them are bullying me alone!"
Wendy gritted her teeth in anger. That was the only thing she could do.
At this moment, Brian came in with a file bag in his hand.
Wendy was not interested in the stuff in Brian's hand. She looked at him with a sad face and an aggrieved expression.
She assumed that although Joanne couldn't do anything about those two guys bullying her, Brian should know how to deal with them.
Brian was quite surprised and asked softly, "Wendy, what's the matter?"
Wendy pretended to be hurt and said in a crying tone, "I was bullied!"
Brian looked around and found that in addition to Joanne, there were only Chris and Freya.
Wendy didn't say who had bullied her, but these people usually liked to tease her.
If Joanne was the one who bullied Wendy, it would be difficult for Brian not to play favorites.
Brian looked interested and asked, "Wendy, how did they bully you?"
Wendy was stunned and asked with a strange look, "Brian, aren't you supposed to ask me who bullied me?"
Brian thought for a moment and decided to tell Wendy the truth. "Wendy, my answer may let you down."
Wendy blinked and asked, "What is your answer?"
Brian slightly smiled, and the tenderness in his smile was definitely not for Wendy. He explained slowly, "If the one who bullied you is Joanne, I may... not take your side."
Wendy was speechless.
She froze and was stunned in the cafe.
She really couldn't understand why people would treat her like this.
She just went shopping. Why did she have to be teased by Chris and Brian?
"So, what I need is not someone who can help me to uphold justice, but... Gavin?"
Looking at Wendy who looked like she was about to cry, Joanne really couldn't bear it. She came over and comforted her. "Don't be sad. Ask them to cover your expenses today."
Joanne was the apple in Chris's eyes, and Brian was even more obedient to Joanne, so what she said worked.
Wendy shook her fist and looked at Chris and Brian angrily. "Your cards will definitely be maxed out today!"
Brian was not mad at all. He said lightly, "Wendy, don't worry. My credit card doesn't have a limit."
Wendy didn't know what to say.
She was very sure that Brian was not comforting her but fighting back.
This time, she admitted defeat.
However, she would not just let it go like that.
Wendy proudly raised her chin and snorted. "Terrific!"
They set off from the first floor and started shopping from the children's clothing store to the women's clothing store. Finally, they went to the jewelry and cosmetics stores. Winston and Chris's chauffeur kept coming over to take the things they had bought and put them in the cars.
Even though the guys had Winston's help, Brian and Chris still needed to carry a lot of shopping bags in their hands.
Joanne and Freya finally stopped shopping with satisfaction at two o'clock in the afternoon.
Joanne looked at her watch and saw the pointer pointing at two o'clock. She was stunned. "It's already two o'clock?" Then, she looked at Brian and Chris and asked with uncertainty, "Are you... hungry?"
Brian couldn't understand women's enthusiasm for shopping. If it weren't for Joanne, he wouldn't have wasted his time on such a boring thing, let alone starve for a whole noon because of shopping, which made him suffer.
Brian's face looked darkened. "What do you think?"
Joanne became more and more guilty and coughed. "Well, I also feel hungry. Let's go and have lunch!"
The fifth floor of the mall was full of restaurants. Joanne and Freya both preferred the dishes of a particular restaurant. Brian and Chris, of course, had no objection and followed them into it.
It was already three o'clock in the afternoon when they finished their meal.
Wendy stretched herself and said, "I have to go back to do some reviewing. The exam will be held in two days. If I can't pass it, it will be too embarrassing."
Brian took the opportunity to hand the file bag to her.
Wendy took it with curiosity and confusion. She shook it in her hand and asked curiously, "What's this, Brian?"
Brian said lightly, "The exam paper of the postgraduate entrance examination two years ago, and the exam paper of simulated examinations."
Wendy widened her eyes and tried her best to control herself from rushing over to give Brian a big hug. She said excitedly, "Thank you, Brian!"
What he gave her was what she needed most now.
She had almost reviewed all the relevant medical knowledge, and she only needed to do a simulation exam.
She could use the materials given by Brian to check the results of her review. She was grateful for his timely help.
Brian still looked indifferent, but there was a kind of gentleness in his tone that he did not have for strangers. He said, "You're welcome. Joanne asked me to do this."
Wendy knew that Brian was clearly indicating that she should thank Joanne.
She finally didn't have to restrain herself anymore. She rushed over and hugged Joanne. "Joanne, thank you."
"You're welcome. Good luck with the exam," Joanne said, "and if you pass, we'll celebrate for you together!"
"Great." Wendy thought for a moment and said, "I think that on the day when my exam results are announced, Gavin will be fully recovered."
Joanne nodded with a smile. "That's wonderful. We'll have a big party to celebrate it together!"
As they spoke, they had already walked out of the mall. Their chauffeurs had already prepared the cars and were waiting.
Wendy was the first to get in the car. In the end, she rolled down the window, looked at Joanne, and said, "Joanne, we'll do as we just agreed!"
"Okay!" Joanne smiled and said, "It's a deal."
Wendy waved at Joanne before she rolled up the window and asked the chauffeur to drive back to the hospital.
Not long after she left the hospital in the morning, Gavin fell asleep. When she came back, his consciousness was just restored.
Noticing the noise in the room, Gavin opened his eyes and saw that it was indeed Wendy. He asked with a smile, "How did your shopping go?"
Wendy put down the bags in her hand and calmly said, "Well, it's okay."
Gavin silently counted the bags on the floor and frowned. "You bought so little?"
When he was still working at Lambert Group, he didn't have much spare time.
He was not as keen on shopping as girls. He bought his custom-made suits and leather shoes from the same tailor as Brian.
However, he still liked to pick out some small objects and casual clothes in person, and he would replace them regularly every year.
Every time he went to the mall, he would buy more stuff than Wendy just did.
Gavin deeply suspected that his wife wasn't serious about shopping.
"Honey," Wendy suddenly squatted down in front of Gavin's bed, looked at him with a pair of big almond-shaped eyes, and said with a smile, "how could I let you down?"
Before Gavin could react, Wendy suddenly got up, ran to open the door, and said to someone outside the door, "Sir, please bring the stuff in for me."
Gavin naturally turned to the door and saw Brian's subordinate coming in with a dozen shopping bags.
He finally realized that he had been too naive.
The man put down the shopping bags, greeted Gavin, and then left the ward.
Wendy turned around, looked at Gavin with a smile, and asked, "How is it? Are you pleased with what I got?"
Gavin did not answer but asked, "What did you buy?"
Wendy had bought too many things, so she couldn't recall all of them for the moment. After thinking for a while, she said, "Just some spring dresses, shoes, and so on. I picked some, Joanne picked some, and..."
Gavin was not interested in what Wendy would say next.
His attention was focused on the first part of what she said - spring dresses, which sounded very nice.
After saying that, Wendy found that Gavin was absent-minded. She waved her hand in front of his eyes and asked, "Gavin, are you listening to me?"
"Of course," Gavin said, "I'm just thinking about something."
"Hmm?" Wendy tilted her head and looked at Gavin in confusion. "What is it?"
Gavin looked at Wendy and said, "I'm thinking if you put on the new dress you bought, I will be more pleased."
