Chapter 1146 Because We Have a Tacit Understanding

"You are."

What he said was very simple, but Joanne heard it without warning.

It was an expected answer, but she felt that her heart seemed to have been hit by something, and a warm and sweet feeling spread from the bottom of her heart.

At this moment, it was as if a big hand full of strength was gently stroking her.

She was completely relieved.

From then on, there was nothing in the world that could make her feel uneasy.

Joanne reached out her hand, stroked Brian's face on the screen, and said, "I'll be with you tomorrow."

Brian's eyes suddenly became deeper, like a maze. It was as if people could get lost in them.

He just looked at Joanne and said, "Each second I am away from you seems an eternity."

Joanne was more willing to consider Brian joking. She laughed out loud and played along by saying, "I'm really sorry to hear that." After that, she gave Brian a comforting look.

Brian's eyes were vaguely revealing dissatisfaction. "Joanne, aren't you supposed to say something else at this time?"

Joanne played dumb to the end. She pursed her lips and looked at Brian in confusion. "What am I supposed to say?"

Brian was speechless.

It would be meaningless if Joanne repeated what he just said.

"Nothing." Brian helplessly told Joanne, "You should go to sleep early."

This time, Joanne listened to him. She obediently replied with an "alright" and kissed Brian's face on the phone screen. "You should go to sleep early too."

Brian's face, which had been cold and solemn for a long time, finally showed a smile. "Good night."

"Good night."

Joanne knew that Brian would not hang up on her, so she took the initiative to end the video call. She put the phone on the bedside table, adjusted to a comfortable posture, and breathed in the residual smell of Brian in the room. She had been tossing and turning before. In the end, she soon fell asleep.

Brian had always been a good medicine for her sleepless nights.

What Joanne didn't know was that Brian, who was far away in the private hospital, was still looking at his mobile phone at this time.

He was playing a video, which showed Joanne and Aiden.

Of course, this wasn't peeping.

It was just a replay of the video.

After Joanne hung up the video call, Brian thought for a moment and saved the video directly without much hesitation.

The video was replayed for about ten minutes. It could be seen that Aiden reached out his hand to touch the screen, and then a satisfied smile appeared on his face. His simple and lovely appearance warmed people's hearts.

Brian thought that after Aiden and Romy grew up, he and Joanne would tell them that Romy, who was receiving the video call, was temporarily staying in the hospital for observation.

Romy would know that her brother had already been conscious of protecting her since she was a child.

If Brian kept this video, it would have extraordinary significance for him, Joanne, and the two little children.

After watching the video, Brian put the phone on the bedside table, turned around, and looked at Romy, who was sleeping soundly.

The little girl usually liked to cry, but as long as she fell asleep, she would be quiet and well-behaved. Her breathing was shallow, and her little mouth, which was similar to Joanne's, opened slightly and then closed again. Occasionally, she would snort in her sleep, and her voice was soft and lovely. Or she would move her slender and tender little hands, and her movements were like those of a slow panda who had just woken up.

Brian often wondered. "How could there be such a little angel in the world who happened to come to me?"

Of course, there was no answer to this question.

But because there was no answer, Brian cherished the arrival of his two little kids even more.

Brian tucked Romy in and put her little hand, which was beside her head, under the quilt. He touched her tender little face and said, "Good night."

Not long after Brian closed his eyes, he also fell asleep.

The night didn't last long. In the blink of an eye, the morning light had shone and scattered the night, and a new day had arrived in the world.

That night, Brian did not sleep well. He got up in the middle of the night and fed Romy milk formula several times.

Therefore, it was rare that he did not wake up on time the next morning.

However, it wasn't the same for Romy.

She had slept for the whole afternoon and the entire night yesterday, so she had enough sleep. Early in the morning, she opened her eyes, waved her hands, and did kicking on the bed. She looked around curiously and played with herself.

Not long after, the little girl was tired of playing and began to babble.

When she was at home, as long as she made a sound, someone would immediately come to hold her. At least, someone would be with her.

But today, she put in a lot of effort to make a noise, but she got no response.

She got angry.

Romy pursed her lips and cried with a grievance. At the same time, she turned her head to look for others, only to see Brian.

A child who was a few months old could already recognize people. Although she didn't know that Brian was her father and the person who gave her life, he had always been there for her when she grew up. She was familiar with him and had already developed a dependence on him.

Romy quieted down and just stared at Brian.

In the past, as long as she acted like this, Brian would definitely hold her in his arms.

But today, everything seemed to have changed. She had been looking forward to it for a long time, but her dad ignored her.

She blubbered right away.

Feeling aggrieved, Romy burst into tears at once, and her clear cry instantly broke the silence of the morning.

Brian heard the noise and soon realized that Romy had woken up.

Then, he did not have time to react at all. As soon as he opened his eyes, he hurriedly picked up Romy. While wiping away the tears for the little girl, he asked softly, "What's wrong, hmm?"

Romy rubbed herself against her dad's chest and replied with a "hmm" in an aggrieved tone. She calmed down and just looked at Brian with tears in her eyes.

He smiled and rubbed the little girl's face. "Morning."

Romy was different from Aiden.

Aiden didn't like to be touched. When Brian occasionally met Aiden, the little boy would only smile when he was in a particularly good mood. Most of the time, he would turn his head and look unhappy.

Romy and her brother were completely different.

The little girl was much more entertaining than her brother. As soon as someone gently rubbed her face, she would immediately kick and laugh with two small dimples on her face, which looked very cute.

Perhaps because Romy had had a good rest today, she was happy and willing to interact with people.

"Mm... Ah!"

Romy seemed to know that her dad was greeting her, so she made a dolphin-like sound, and her dimples became deeper and deeper.

Brian held his daughter in his arms and suddenly felt that he had been satisfied. He had an impulse to skip work.

He had a daughter, and he could completely give up on many worldly possessions.

However, there were some things that he had to deal with. He had not solved them yet, and he could not have such great freedom.

At this time, Brian's assistant sent a text message reminding him that there would be a meeting for the higher-ups of the company at 9:15. It was meant to discuss some of the company's plans and development this year, and all the shareholders of the board of directors would be attending.

Brian could not be absent from this meeting in any case.

Brian put Romy on the bed and kissed her tender little face. "Good girl, I'm going to get changed. You need to play on your own first."

After settling Romy down, Brian went to the bathroom to wash up.

The door was pushed open as soon as he came out of the bathroom.

Except for Joanne, no one dared to enter Brian's room without knocking on the door.

Brian fully opened the door and saw Joanne standing outside.

He smiled. "Morning."

Compared with Brian, Joanne was much more surprised. She looked at him blankly and said, "I wanted to give you a surprise. How did you know I was coming?" Then, she handed two bags to him.

Brian took the bag and kissed Joanne's forehead. He explained calmly, "Because we have a tacit understanding."

This explanation was simply faultless.

Joanne looked up at Brian and asked, "Where's Romy?"

Before Brian could answer, Romy, who was lying on the bed, let out a cry as if she wanted to tell Joanne where she was in this way.

Joanne looked in the direction of the sound and saw the little girl lying on the bed. She had kicked the quilt to her knee. The smile on her face was very happy. It seemed that kicking the quilt was a great pleasure in her life.

"Romy." Joanne picked up the little girl. "I'm here to pick you up."

Romy stared at her and smiled. She turned her head and buried her face in Joanne's arms. She hummed as if she was going to tell her mom something.

Joanne kissed the little girl's face. "Baby, did you miss me?"

"Mm!"

Romy looked at Joanne with her big watery eyes for a moment as if she wanted to tell her the answer in this way.

Joanne smiled and rubbed her forehead intimately against the little girl's. "How long have you been awake? Did your daddy give you milk formula?"

Of course, Romy could not answer, but Brian could do it for her.

Brian said, "She just woke up, and I haven't fed her anything yet."

"It doesn't matter. I'll do it." Joanne sat on the sofa with Romy in her arms, opened the other bag she had brought, took out a lunch box, and pushed it to Brian. "This is your breakfast. Have it now, or you'll be late for the meeting."

Now, Joanne knew Brian's schedule like the back of her hand, and she didn't need to spend much effort to inquire about it.

Brian's schedule was arranged by his secretary and assistant. If he got busy with something, he would inform the secretary in advance and ask her to make time for him.

After arranging Brian's schedule for the day, the secretary would send it to his mailbox.

Joanne didn't know if Brian did it on a whim or just thought it was fun. He had sent Joanne's email address to the secretary and asked her to copy his schedule and send it to Joanne.

Joanne had asked Brian about it. "Why did you do that? I don't remember asking you to do that."

Brian said lightly and deservedly, "I want you to know what I'm busy with. What's the matter? You're not willing to have my schedule?"

Joanne did not dare to say that she was unwilling. She quickly shook her head and said insincerely, "I'm glad to have it!"

From that day on, Joanne was pressured to read Brian's schedule every day.

However, there was actually nothing bad about this.

After reading many of his schedules, she could speculate whether Brian would work overtime today through his schedule for the day and how long he would have to work overtime if he needed to do so.

After speculating for such a long time, Joanne could basically not be wrong about it.

Later, Joanne tried to reveal her new skill to Brian and asked, "Mr. Lambert, what do you think of it?"

Brian kissed her and said, "Mrs. Lambert, I'm very happy that you know me so well."

Joanne was speechless.
