Chapter 126 Unexpected Trouble

Joanne's cheeks burned like the morning glow, she vexedly explained to Brian.

"Don't over think about it! It's just like giving a report at a meeting, and I just simply told the fact that I just found out! There is nothing evil!"

Brian looked at the little monster who was blushing and almost cried. "I used to think that you knew nothing about it. Now it seems... you know a lot."

Joanne was confused and suddenly realized what Brian was talking about, thus her face turned redder. She explained.

"I am a medical examiner. We have already learned about this basic stuff when we were still in school. After work, we are all exposed to the deceased with all kinds of idiosyncrasies and distorted characters, which were all found through experimental autopsy. So, for those things that ordinary people can't imagine, we have gotten used to it for a long time, and it's so easy for us to talk about it."

"Why did your brother allow you to learn this?" Brian felt that this decision was the most outrageous one in Chris's life.

"My brother certainly didn't agree," Joanne smiled proudly, "but when I applied for it, he was abroad so he couldn't stop me. Being a doctor or a medical examiner has always been a dream since I was in junior high school, he couldn't stop me even if he was at home."

As for why she had such a strange dream of being a medical examiner, it was probably because of her indulging in various reasoning dramas and whodunit since junior high school.

Freya didn't lure Joanne to be her friend by just a bottle of yogurt, so that she could betray her beloved brother, but because her family had been running the biggest press of bestsellers, as well as holding the copyrights of seven or eight of Joanne's favorite writers both at home and abroad.

Thus Freya could always send Joanne the author's electronic draft in the first time. The physical book would be sent to her as soon as possible after production.

The most important thing was that Freya once took Joanne to see her favorite reasoning writer who was a medical examiner.

Joanne was able to speak fluent English since high school, but that was the only time she couldn't make herself clear because of excitement.

Probably it was at that time that she was determined to be a medical examiner.

Brian thought that if he had not hesitated to show up in front of Joanne, could he have changed her mind about her major?

But now he understood that she still had her own persistence even if she was compliant to him. Her interests and dreams could not be interfered by people other than herself.

It was already past eleven o'clock when Joanne got home. She was too sleepy to open her eyes, and fell into the bed once she went back to her room, leaving the door open and the quilt pressed under.

She seemed to sense that Brian came in to tuck her in. She also heard him adjust the temperature of the room. She couldn't open her eyes, but just enjoyed what he had done for her.

All of which seemed so spontaneous now.

Finally, Brian closed the door for her, and she had a good sleep.

In the afternoon of the next day, all the test results came out, and the police also found important evidence. The case of Maeve finally came to light.

--She died from an accidental overdose of heroin and intense sexual intercourse with several men.

She had arranged full work for the next week, and she also planned to go shopping on Jianshe Road this evening. She did not want to die, but she hadn't realized that her actions were equivalent to suicide.

The handwritten diary found in her study showed that Maeve had been under tremendous work pressure for several years. But since she was a high-ranking socialite and the eldest daughter whose parents had high hopes on, she could only desperately try to reach her goals instead of going to a shrink.

But she still could not relieve her inner depression under such rich material conditions, so she chose drugs and the most primitive physical pleasure to let out the pressure for the time being.

Maeve's family could not accept the investigation results, they would not even believe what Maeve had been hiding underneath. Therefore Ava and her mother came to the police station.

The police understood their feelings and asked them to calm down. They also told them that it was the result of a joint investigation between the police and the medical examiners. It was a fact that they could not change even if their mischief became more intense.

"What the hell is this medical examiner!" Ava yelled out of control, "Who is the medical examiner of this investigation, ask her to come out, I said ask her to come out! I need to ask her in person."

The police would not allow her request since medical examiner generally did not meet the family members of the deceased. But she became even more irritated and started to disturb the regular functioning of the office.

Joanne looked at uncontrolled Ava by monitoring, and said to Captain Turner, "I'll go to see her."

"No," Captain Turner stopped Joanne, "Let Shawn go. She may do something when she is in a state like this right now."

"It's useless for Shawn to do this, she actually knows that the medical examiners are me and Shawn, and I'm the one she wants to see," Joanne smiled, "Captain Turner, we have some personal grudges. I have to solve it, otherwise, the colleagues outside can't work."

After that, she went out. Ava suddenly became quiet when she saw Joanne. She asked her with resentment. "Joanne, did you do it deliberately? You said on purpose that my sister's death is an accident, and you deliberately rumored her private life. You want revenge on our family!"

"Miss Chen, you can question my identification results, but you can't question the conduct of us medical examiners," Joanne appeared to be extremely calm, "what I wrote on the survey report is the truth of the experiment. You can't interfere with public function just because you can't accept the result. Now the police are being sympathy to you, but don't blame us for detaining you if you make it worse."

"Are you saying that my daughter took drugs and had promiscuity?" Ava's mother came up and suddenly raised her hand with her goggling eyes--

It was already too late for Joanne to avoid, "pah", and the burning pain spread on her cheek with abnormal tingling.

The entire office was quiet in an instant.

Two seconds later, Captain Turner roared. "What are you doing! Cuff them!"

Shawn rushed out and looked at Ava's mother's hand. He sneered. "Who wears a diamond ring this big and faces the palm? You were ready to attack the police, weren't you?"

He took Joanne back to the office and brought some cotton and disinfection fluid. He pressed Joanne to sit down. "It'll break your husband's heart if he sees you like this."

Joanne took a small mirror from the bag and looked at it. The cheek on the left was red and swollen, which seemed a bit shocking. She then called Hannah to send her an ice bag.

"Are you dumb? There is a wound! What to do with the ice bag?" Shawn patted her head with slight anger. "Turn your face over, let me clean the wounds."

Joanne turned her face. "I'm about to get off work, I have to diminish the swelling anyway, I'll avoid the wound."

"Are you so afraid that your President Lambert feels bad?"

"No," Joanne thought about it, "It's just the face looks so terrible when it's swollen like a pig..."

Shawn poked her face. "The long scar on your face is even more ugly. Be careful, don't leave a scar."

At this time, Hannah sent the ice bag in. Joanne carefully avoided the wound and applied it to her face. The cold feeling temporarily calmed the burning pain, and it was almost time to get off work.

Brian said in this morning that he would pick her up after work. Should she find an excuse to avoid him first?

However, they would inevitably encounter after they went home this evening and next morning. Forget it, just let him feel distressed.

A couple of minutes later, her cell phone rang. She knew that Brian had arrived outside without guessing. Joanne picked up the bag and saw his car at the door of the police station when she walked out.

She walked towards the car with her head down and pulled the door of the back seat. Brian found something strange so he made an order. "Come here, sit in front."

Joanne slowly moved to the passenger's seat. Brian held up her jaw right after she sat down. "How did you get this?"

Although his sullen look was not directed at her, Joanne still felt terrified. Thus she subconsciously wanted to make an excuse to muddle through, but he had seen clear finger marks.

"Ava came to the police station?"

Joanne was not surprised that Brian guessed right since he already knew on yesterday that she was in charge of Maeve Bennett's case. He assumed that Chen's family could not accept the truth, and Ava was always resentful of Joanne. Thus besides her, who in the police station would dare to do that to Joanne?

Joanne didn't hide it since he had known about it. So she confessed. "It's not her, it's her mother."

Brian looked down, and said with a voice revealing bitter coldness, "How did the wound come?"

"She wore the diamond ring, which scratched my face."

Brian understood it without thinking that Ava and her mother were prepared.

Then they couldn't blame him for what he might do.

He stroked her swollen cheek, and said gently, "Does it hurt?"

Joanne suddenly felt like crying.

Because the medical examiner did not have any obligation to explain to the family, and in fact, she could shut the door and ignore Ava and her mother. But she chose to face it, and encountered this unexpected trouble.

Captain Turner detained Ava and her mother with anger, Shawn was anxious to deal with her wounds, and the police colleagues were all irritated for her, but no one asked her if she was hurt.

Only Brian, he knew that she was afraid of pain, and only he would ask if it hurt.

Joanne blinked her eyes hard to try to take back the tears that were about to pour out. She smiled and said, "It hurt at the moment, but not now."

Brian put the seat belt on Joanne and sent a message to Gavin, and then started the car to go home.

He was always focused while driving, with his dark eyes staring at the road ahead. It seemed that he was thinking about something, but he sometimes seemed not.

Joanne couldn't see him through as she used to, but she faintly felt that... Brian had made a decision and something was going to happen.

Gavin, on the other side, was working overtime at the company. He was confused and depressed when he received the message. "What do you want again? Isn't it enough to just make some trouble for Chen's family? Now you want to totally break them? So ferocious."

He thought about it for a moment and shook his head. "Well, now every one of Chen's family is totally going down."

The assistant saw him talking to himself and could not help asking. "Gavin, what happened?"

"Our Mr. Brian will soon revenge for his beloved wife again," he turned on the computer and began to make a specific plan, "go to work, we'll have another massacre!"
