The closer the birthday was, the more pleasant Brian felt.
Gavin involuntarily sighed to his colleagues: Mr. Brian's temper was getting better and better recently.
At the same time, Gavin summed up a truth: making Joanne happy was more useful than appeasing Brian directly. Anyway, the President's mood entirely depended on Mrs. President.
But in fact, during these days, Joanne's mood wasn't well; instead, she frowned deeper and deeper. Freya could hear Joanne's sigh every time she called her. After a few times, she involuntarily asked her about what had happened.
Joanne said with a sigh, "I don't know how to celebrate Brian's birthday..."
"It's only a birthday, everyone has it every year. Why are you so worried?"
From time to time, Freya was invited to birthday parties of a Young Master or a Young Madam which could cause a stir within the whole city. The birthday itself was not a rare thing for her, but an excuse to celebrate grandly.
"But Brian hasn't had a birthday party for a long time." Joanne said two things she cared the most about. "And, this is my first birthday with him. I want him to remember it all his life. Aren't you known as the party talent? Immediate emergency! Help me out, will you?"
Rarely being entrusted with a heavy responsibility, Freya carefully considered the trade-offs and said, "In fact, such man like Brian, has seen most of the good things before, and there is no grand scene that he hasn't yet experienced. The average person's birthday can aim for a grand sensation, but for Brian, you'd better come up with something original."
"Hmm!"
For the first time, Joanne felt that the words spoken by Freya were the truth. Sure enough, some things still needed experience!
Then, Joanne seriously discussed with Freya, countering problems, and finally, they determined how to celebrate Brian's first birthday after their marriage.
A few days later, Brian's birthday was approaching. And fortunately, it was Sunday.
Early in the morning, Gavin called to rouse Brian from his sleep and asked him to play golf.
Hanging up the phone, Brian met Joanne's eyes, which were full of mirth and love.
She smiled cleverly and sensibly. "You can go play with Gavin, I can be by myself at home!"
Brian looked at Joanne with suspicion. She quickly added, "I'm not a ten year old! If you don't go, Gavin and others might think that you're a henpecked husband!"
Brian raised his eyebrows. After getting up and washing, he easily went out.
This was exactly what Joanne intended, and she also had no time to think too much. She immediately called Freya for help and then worked hard at home in accordance with the plan.
Countryside, golf course.
On the early autumn morning, the breeze was pleasant, and sunshine warmed the green grass on the court.
Brian appeared in an unhurried manner. Gavin and Wesley were already there, who were eating an exquisite breakfast under a parasol.
Brian also pulled out a chair to sit and poured himself a cup of coffee.
Immediately, he perceived the strong coffee aroma.
He elegantly took a sip. Then, he asked, "For how long did Joanne ask you to drag me around?"
That's right, he guessed it.
When he received the phone call from Gavin early in the morning, he began to suspect that this was a plan. Later, Joanne performed so well and sensibly; the speculation was in his heart.
Gavin didn't expect Joanne to deceive Brian successfully. He honestly said, "You have to wait until dinner time." Then he looked at his watch and couldn't help but smile. "This is my first time feeling we have plenty of time. Hey, how do we play today?"
Wesley rose up and said, "Play a few shots first."
Three people left the parasol resting area and walked toward the course. Wesley told Brian as if chatting normally along the road, "I checked Rowdy's recent whereabouts and found that he went to Thailand and Nepal during this time. If nothing goes wrong, he will come back soon."
This time, when Rowdy came back, inevitably, Brian and he needed to have a face-to-face meeting.
After the encounter, peaceful days would be finished.
Brian made a decisive shot, and the white golf ball made a beautiful but sharp arc above the green grass.
"The sooner Rowdy comes back, the better it will be," His voice was laden with a gloomy chill.
Wesley raised his lips and smiled. "I think so too." Just like the sooner the trouble was solved, the better it would be.
In Glasgow, the status of his Hayes Family had never been shaken, and when Rowdy returned, he had dared to covet his business.
He would like to see how much Rowdy had trained, who had been recruiting and refining for many years.
Thinking of it, Wesley swung a powerful shot. The white sphere seemed to be endowed with infinite power, which was full of murderous intent and precisely rolled into the hole.
Just like hitting an enemy. One punch, giving a deadly hit.
This was Wesley's consistent style.
Gavin took the club from the caddie's hand and asked Brian when he was squatting, "Do you want Chris to know about Rowdy?"
"He has the right to know." Brian said, "I will pick the right time to tell him."
Gavin was curious. "Aren't you afraid that he would ask you to divorce Joanne?"
Joanne was the treasure that Chris held in his hand. If he knew about Brian and Rowdy's feud, he wouldn't let Joanne stay with Brian any longer; it would otherwise be equal to let Joanne take risks.
Brian's hands froze.
His profound eyes showed a flash of coldness, which left without a trace. "So far, I can't divorce Joanne anyway."
If Rowdy hadn't yet eyed Joanne, in order to guarantee her safety, he might have allowed the "divorce" to happen.
But now, Rowdy was threatening Joanne. Only by staying with him, Joanne would be safe, and he could also feel at ease.
Therefore, even if Chris requested it, he could not divorce Joanne.
"Well..." Gavin shook his head and sighed, then played another shot.
He didn't know what magic effect love had, but he knew how destructive it was.
It seemed that no matter what thing it was, as long as it had a relationship with love, it would become a series of twists and turns.
Just like Rowdy's matter. If it didn't involve Joanne, how else could Brian hesitate?
But it came down to four-words: Battle to the death!
He also wanted to ask what love was.
Wesley looked at the hole in the distance and smiled. "So, I insist on divorcing. It's a correct and wise choice."
Love?
When hearing this, an unrealistic feeling came to him at first. Even if love came, it was big trouble.
Brian looked at Wesley with a faint gaze.
He waited for the day when Wesley stumbled upon love.
While at this time, the family was busy with the celebration.
When Freya rushed over, she became the chief planner along with Simon; together they organized all arrangements, and Joanne shut herself in the kitchen, to single-mindedly battle with the birthday cake.
She was good at cooking and making some small snacks, but she had only tried the birthday cake several times a few years ago. The taste was not outstanding, and it was no different from one picked at a roadside shop.
This was Brian's birthday cake, how could it be ordinary?
She consulted information on cakes for more than an hour. After mastering some techniques, she asked the chef to help her prepare all the things and carefully started working after lunch.
Although in the level of apprenticeship, Joanne had a very excellent cooking skill, so it was not particularly difficult to operate, as long as she used the right amount of ingredients.
When the cake base was baked in the box, she baked two cupcakes alongside it. When Freya was coming in after preparing, she happened to see the baked cake base and was called by Joanne to have a sampling.
She handed a cupcake to Freya. "Have a taste!"
Freya was defenseless against Joanne's food. After allowing the cake to cool, she immediately took a bite and Joanne looked at her with a look of hope. "How is it?"
"Oh, huh!" Freya pointed at the cake; unable to speak, she only nodded.
Having eaten the whole cupcake, Freya felt satisfied. She tapped Joanne's shoulder and said, "Joanne, you are virtually better than the cake chef."
Joanne took a bite from another cupcake, and Freya didn't seem to exaggerate. After being assured, she cut the big cake embryo and beat the cream.
Freya stared at the cupcake that only had a bite taken by Joanne and swallowed. "Joanne, aren't you going to eat it?"
Joanne knew Freya well. She said, "You can have it."
"Don't mind if I do!"
Freya picked up the cupcake and jumped on the long table beside it. She leisurely dangled her long legs and watched Joanne beating cream while eating.
For the first time to carefully make a birthday cake, Joanne did not dare to be sloppy. She prepared the cream, then cut the fruit, carefully distributing it on the cake embryo; she spread the cream, and after taking a bit more than two hours, the cake was finally formed. Only the piping and decoration work was left.
Joanne was good at piping and it was easily done. But when she looked at the empty cake surface, she felt embarrassed and asked Freya, "What else can I use to decorate except fruit and chocolate?"
"You can also write." Freya said, "Do you want to write 'happy birthday' or something funny?"
Joanne sat down and looked at the cake with her chin cupped in her hands. She rejected writing jokes in her heart, but to only wrote a "Happy Birthday", would it look unimaginative?
After a while, a somewhat bold but sweet idea took over Joanne's mind.
She did not hesitate because she knew that she would hesitate to dispel this thought.
Quickly taking the tool, she started writing and drawing on the blank part of the cake surface.
Freya finished eating the cupcake and found that Joanne was serious and excited. Curiously going over and after seeing her words, she screamed. "Joanne, I realize that after marriage, you are getting better and better at saying sweet things to Brian."
Joanne licked her lips and said nothing.
This was Brian's first birthday with her. She was eager to make him happy but also in an unforgettable way.
Therefore, she would not let go of any chance to make him have a more lasting impression!
After writing, the final task was the decoration. This work had the same effect as the set which wasn't difficult for Joanne. The different colors of fresh fruits and black and white chocolates came together, shaping an exquisite birthday cake.
Joanne carefully put it in the box to seal and finally placed it in the refrigerator.
