Chapter 268 Gulping Down Deep Jealousy (1)

A few days later, after a series of surveillance and arrest, the case was finally dismissed.

After a few days of mornings to evenings working schedule, everyone hoped to relax a little. Captain Turner announced that they could have free time during the day, then gather to eat dinner before returning to Arlington the next morning.

Some took the bus to visit the local scenic spots while others went to eat at the restaurant. Joanne didn't want to play or eat. She thought about it and asked the driver to take her to Granny Wallace's house.

Upon seeing Joanne, the old woman smiled happily that she couldn't even close her mouth. Yuna said jealously, "Grandma, the wrinkles on your face are getting much deeper!"

"Wicked girl!" Granny Wallace poked at Yuna's forehead and said, "Go make some tea!" Turning her head, she smiled at Joanne and asked, "how have you been? Did you come alone?"

"I've been well." Joanne said, "I am here on a business trip and I will be going back tomorrow. I am on break today so I came to visit you and Yuna."

The old woman gratifyingly patted Joanne's hand twice and asked, "What about Chris? He hasn't visited me in Glasgow in over half a year. I haven't received any calls from him during this period. He must be busy again? Tell him to take care of his health."

Gazing absently, Joanne immediately raised a smile. "Grandma, you can rest assured. My brother is also doing well. He's just been very busy during this time. When he is done, I will let him visit you!"

"Good, good."

The old woman's face glowed with joy, but Joanne's heart grieved.

There had been no news since Freya's leave. Her phone had been turned off, and she no longer updated her status on social networks.

Joanne knew that Freya wanted some quiet and alone time in order to sort out the problems. Therefore, she did not bother her.

As for Chris, he seemed the same as usual on the outside, working and resting normally.

But Joanne knew that when there was no social event, he always went home after work. No one knew how he passed each evening and long night in that apartment.

Jack once secretly told Joanne that Chris had become more dependent on sleeping pill than before, taking it almost every day.

Therefore, Chris was not well in reality.

But since Granny Wallace was getting old, Joanne didn't want her to worry about the younger generation, and kept the unpleasant news to herself.

After chatting for a while, Granny Wallace's energy gradually worn out. Understanding her grandma's current physical condition, Yuna helped her grandmother up. "Grandma, go back to the room and get some rest. I will call you when lunch is ready."

Joanne and Yuna helped the old woman settle in bed then returned to the living room. Yuna smiled apologetically. "My grandmother is like a child now. She has to sleep for fifteen to sixteen hours a day. She hasn't been able to tend to the restaurant which she had taken care for so many years."

Joanne looked worried, but Yuna continued and said, "Rest assured, Grandma is not sick, she is just getting older. Sit down, I have a question to ask you."

Joanne sat on the armchair and asked, "What's your question?"

"... Mr. Lambert and my boss," said Yuna, sounding a bit hesitant and a bit curious. "They seem to have a close relationship, is that true?"

"Brian never mentioned it to me." Joanne smiled. "But according to my understanding of my husband, he probably has a close relationship with Wesley, and they have known each other for many years."

Yuna nodded thoughtfully, "... Oh."

"What's wrong?" Joanne was curious why Yuna asked about it.

Coming back to her senses, Yuna grinned as she held her chin and said lazily, "I don't think they are the same type of people in this world. You don't know Wesley, he looks scary on the outside, but in some aspects, he's just like a three-year-old!"

Joanne got interested and continued to ask, "For example? In what ways?"

"For example, his ability to take care of himself is zero, he is also a picky eater, and..." As Yuna got prepared to complain about Wesley, her black pupils rolled around and then she took back her words. "Forget it, I don't even want to complain about him."

Joanne thought that Yuna was afraid her words might get delivered to Wesley. Although Yuna's worries were unnecessary, Joanne did not ask again.

Obviously, she would not tell Yuna now that complaining about a person was often the beginning to loving that person.

Yuna to get her wallet. "Sit around for a while, I'll go shopping. Let's have lunch together."

The grocery market was right downstairs. A few minutes after Yuna had left, the doorbell rang.

Joanne initially thought Yuna had forgotten her keys, but when she opened the door, she saw a middle-aged man and three young men standing outside the door.

Dyed hair in red and yellow, big golden chains, tattoos... Joanne roughly got an idea of who these people were.

"Hey." The middle-aged man looked at Joanne obscenely. "When did such a beautiful girl come to this old woman's house?" He lifted his chin scornfully at Joanne. "How about we big brothers take you out for dinner tonight?"

"What are you guys here for?" Joanne stepped out and closed the door behind so these noisy people couldn't disturb Granny Wallace's rest.

"We want to buy this house!" A young man jumped out proudly. "We'll give you a week to move out!"

"The hell we will!" Yuna rushed back with bags in her hands and guarded the door. "My grandma and I will not accept! Get lost!"

"You little girl, watch the way you speak to our Mr. Griffin!" The young man glared at Yuna fiercely. "This whole village is watched by Mr. Griffin. Don't you know? Don't you want to stay here?"

Yuna glanced coldly at Griffin Stone. "We will not sell our house to you! Take your dogs, and get lost as far as you can!"

"You!... Just wait!" After leaving a warning, the gang rushed away angrily.

Yuna came over to Joanne and examined her. "Did they do anything to you?"

"I'm fine." Joanne still felt that the incident was not over yet. She asked, "What's going on?"

Once they entered the room, Yuna told Joanne that these people were the bullies of the ancient village. In recent years, the tranquility of the ancient village has attracted many artists to set up studios, cafes, and hotels here.

Mr. Griffin's gang sniffed out the business opportunities and forced acquisitions of other people's old houses.

"But my grandma will never sell them our house!" Yuna said, "Grandma grew up here, my mother and I also grew up here... How could we let these people ruin the place we grew up at?"

"What will you do?" Joanne said, "those guys look tough to handle."

Yuna snorted coldly, "They are tough to handle, but I am even more difficult to provoke!!"

Not sure if it was her illusion, in an instant, Joanne saw that Yuna's eyes... were full of chills...

Yuna did not have the slightest fear. She took the bags into the kitchen and skillfully washed and chopped the vegetables. Just as Joanne thought she was going to cook, Yuna took off her apron and came out of the kitchen.

"I don't know how to cook." Yuna rubbed her nose embarrassingly. "Let me check if my grandma is awake or not. She is the chef at home."

"No need." Joanne stopped Yuna. "I'll cook, let Granny Wallace get some more rest."

Joanne acted quickly and prepared a few simple home-cooked dishes. Yuna and Granny Wallace both praised her cooking on and on.

After the meal, Yuna rubbed her full stomach and said to Joanne, "if I were a man, I would definitely steal you from Mr. Lambert."

"Wicked girl!" Granny Wallace knocked on Yuna's head. "Act like a girl and stop talking rubbish. Go wash the dishes!"

Yuna spat out her tongue. "Grandma, you are biased!" Afterward, she still went to wash the dishes.

After the nap, Granny Wallace woke up with higher spirit and chatted with Joanne for the whole afternoon. By evening, Joanne received a dinner call from Captain Turner and finally got up to leave. The driver drove her to the restaurant.

As soon as Joanne stepped in the restaurant, four strong men followed in and sat down at a table not far away from her.

The whole team consisted of graduates from network technology and criminal investigation departments; therefore, they easily suspected that these men were Joanne bodyguards. Hannah handed the menu to Joanne and teased, "Joanne, is your Mr. Brian worried even when you are with us? This is so..."

Joanne made a "stop" gesture and passed Captain Turner a look. "Reporting to the captain, your puppy is feeling devastated. Hurry, stroke her head."

The weak-willed people laughed out as the blushes on Xiaoying's cheeks spread to the roots of her ears. She waved her hands and feet and justified, "Don't blab! Who is his puppy!"

A group of people teased Hannah. The more she blushed, the happier they became. At last, a roar from Captain Turner finally stopped them.

Of course, the hero who saved the beauty had to pay the price. At last, Captain Turner became everyone's teasing target and was also blackmailed into paying for dinner.

After returning to the hotel after dinner, Joanne deliberately did not tell Brian over the phone that the case had been closed and that she would return to Arlington the next day.

On the second day, Joanne traveled in economy class and landed at the Arlington airport. After getting on a taxi, she headed straight to Lambert Group.

Brian had given her a surprise, she definitely had to surprise Brian in return!

Whenever Joanne entered the company, the front desk would inform the president's office immediately. This time, Joanne ran over to the front desk in time to signal them to drop the phone. She smiled and said, "I'll just go up by myself."

She took Brian's exclusive elevator to the floor of the president's office. Everything still seemed familiar to her except a strange thing. The secretary froze as she saw her, then greeted, "Mrs. Lambert..." She then looked to the president's office with an even stranger face.

Joanne only felt excited about seeing Brian's reaction that she did not notice the details. She asked hurriedly, "Is the president here at the company?"

"... He is." The secretary said hesitatingly, "the president is in his office..."

God helped!

Joanne smiled. "Could you make an internal call and say that there are documents to be delivered to him."

"... OK." Though the secretary was hesitant, she still made the call according to her request. Brian's voice soon came through the line. "Come in."

Joanne took a deep breath and pushed open the door. She especially adjusted the pace of her footstep so that Brian would not detect her.

But she had never thought, Brian was more than she had expected...
